Alim 1st Gear September 9, 2009 Share September 9, 2009 After going through the "Mac - How to" on Apple website, I find that it is pretty user-friendly and I am thinking of switching to a Mac. On the whole, I find that this is what personal computing should be - that is to be more productive and not spending so much time & system resources on "protecting & maintaining" the OS Mac - How to Real users of both, can you share your experience, in terms of 1) User Friendliness 2) Applications 3) Peripheral Support 4) Reliability 5) Pain & Gain etc... I have read and heard positive reviews from beta users of Windows 7. So I am kind of in between both right now... It's all marketing, but I find PC-bashing Adverts by Apple really good. Check it out! PC is the way to go as most games are on window, But if you need it for design work wise, go for mac. other than that... i think both are okay... thing for mac, you have to download what you need from their website yourself while windows come bundle together. The platform hardware is the same as pc. intel. however it uses a derivative of unix os, so that might reduce instability on the intel platform. anyway coming from win, mac's gui is impossible to get used to. its a good product. just not for me. Nolicense Turbocharged September 9, 2009 Share September 9, 2009 it used to be apple on powerPC chips. now not anymore. you may need to look at some reviews. e.g. application specific reviews for desk top publishing or photoshop. in a classic comparison, if both were on the same hardware, it then depends on if the application was optimised for which OS and compiled on which platform. Elfenstar 3rd Gear September 9, 2009 Share September 9, 2009 First, look at the programs/apps you need to use and see if both OSs runs them. Next up, look at the external devices you have and see is they are compatible with both. Unless you're a gamer (which I'm sure you're not because of the question), and if the above two conditions are met, play around with both to see which you prefer. I was playing with it and I keep telling myself that the iPhone is really user-friendly and fast. Hence, I was thinking to myself, same for Mac? Yipsy1 Neutral Newbie September 9, 2009 Share September 9, 2009 As mentioned earlier, just started using iMac 24" some six months ago, being a PC person for 20 odd years. The iPhoto software is the best I have seen. No PC software can match iPhoto and the many other applications in Mac. Even the screensavers in Mac are so much better than Vista. Startup for iMac is 15 seconds, shutdown 3 seconds. Doubt Windows 7 will come close. Updates are far and few as compared to Windows. Will never look back to PC again. Ironically, my first computer was a Mac used for playing helicopter game on a green monochrome screen...if I remember correctly, it looks something like this...
