Mac or PC?

To answer your question point blank, using the same processor (eg, core 2 duo 2.4Ghz) same amount of RAM (eg. 2GB RAM)

Win XP will be faster than OS X 10.5 Leopard

 

Forget about Vista.

 

Between Win7 and Snow Leopard OS 10.6 .... yet to be benchmarked...

 

but i understand that Apple has reindex the way they calculate HDD space.... no longer is 1Mb = 1024kb, but they go on metric system, ie. 1Mb = 1000kb, 1Gb = 1000Mb,.... so, there are reports that those who upgraded to Snow Leopard suddenly found themselves with extra HDD space (compared to Leopard 10.5) ... but is the OS more efficient? it probably is.

 

Also, on Snow Leopard, they support MS Exchange natively.... so users need not use Entourage to get onto Enterprise email Exchange server.... BUT, they suppot only exchange 2007... and not 2003. So, Enterprise users still on Exchange 2003, will still need to use Entourage.

 

Windows 7 GUI is basically a copy of Mac OS (they now also have expose` on Windows 7).....

 

Personally, for work, general software compatibility, i would stay with Windows. But for multimedia, i would go Mac.

 

In short, since a Mac gives you the convenience of dual boot (via boot camp, parallel or VMWare),... you wont go wrong getting a Mac while you can still be on Windows if need be.

 

By the way, Snow Leopard no longer allow 3rd party non-Apple hardware to run the OS on home made DIY machine.

Its just a matter of time before Apple OS gets unstable. The platform hardware is the same as pc. intel.

however it uses a derivative of unix os, so that might reduce instability on the intel platform.

 

anyway coming from win, mac's gui is impossible to get used to. its a good product. just not for me.

 

Well, with a Mac you have to think different.

Stop treating it like a PC and start using it like totally new thing which you do not have any preconceived idea of, and you will learn to love it.

 

Eg. .... the 'X' close window button is on the left on Mac .... Windows' is on the right

 

Just like when you start driving a left hand drive car...

Great advice. Interestingly, it was the Iphone that got me interested in Mac.

 

I was playing with it and I keep telling myself that the iPhone is really user-friendly and fast.

 

Hence, I was thinking to myself, same for Mac?

 

After going through the how-to, I think I am ready to jump ship but just need to get more feedback first.

 

Whatever the case, just make sure the PC suits you and not you suiting the PC. Hardware compatibility is my priority (unless you have tons of $$$ to spare) then ease of use, but remember, there is still a learning curve as long as you're changing OS's.
