I am an astronomer myself.......Nikon DSLRs are not feature friendly for astrophotos. Astronomers around the world mostly use Canon DSLR for astro shots.

When the sky is rotating, we don't have time to meddle with buttons, think how to lessen noise for 20 minutes of exposure, and stuff. We also don't want to waste too much time on image processing to squeeze out deep sky details.

Be an astronomer yourself, show me your telescopes and gears then come debate me on this.

Have to agree that Canon is good for Astrophotos.. but does not mean Nikon is of lesser camera in terms of quality shots. It's fair to say your comfortable with Canon features to get the right shot for your Astophoto.

I like Canon cameras too because it's user friendly and get the correct focus and exposure that I need BUT when I want something more tweaks and depth Nikon gives me what I need.

Having said that, Olympus camera is the smartest in my oppinion, truly fool proof and great beginner DSLR camera.

So, all camera are best in it's own right. Let's be fair. If I must say...the Mamiya could be the Worst camera to be bring along for holiday.. yet it's not a wee bit a bad camera..

For TS looking for good bargain, go direct from the old timer favorite for great bargain and truly professional stuff there..

i'm not an astronomer and certainly there's no need for me to get the gears and take the shots to prove that the Nikon CAN shoot astrophotos cos evidence are APLENTY on the net as i've already googled for you...

all the so call advantage that u mentioned for taking astrophotos i really cannot understand how it can that Canon would be better than Nikon?! [hur]

"When the sky is rotating, we don't have time to meddle with buttons" - wah the sky sure rotates damn fast man, or issit u r damn slow

"we don't have time to meddle with buttons" - u mean Canon has dedicated button for astro?

"think how to lessen noise for 20 minutes of exposure" u mean only canon camera can increase F/stop and adjust ISO or u caying Canon sensor designed for long exposure?

i don't want to start a brand war cos it's plain childish, n i believe that ur Canon does a great job with astro... but it's plain naive to think only Canon can take ur so call nice astrophotos I quote you "Nikon DSLR can't do that"
