How come our TV channel starts at 5?

 

What happened to channels 1,2,3 and 4?

 

Maybe some old fogey would like to betray his age by explaining?

Each channel number is actually a frequency band and not some arbitrary numbering by some body.

 

E.g. For example, Ch 5 might be something like VHF (76-82 Mhz), CH 8 VHF (180-186 Mhz)

 

The general idea is like this. The actual frequencies that are within each channel band may differ from country to country (or region).
