Tigerr1001 Neutral Newbie September 22, 2010 Share September 22, 2010 i've lived in singapore all my life, but i'll never claim to know Singapore. your arguments for PR/FT as important pillars to our economy are all nice and dandy. i agree too. On the flip side though, i query the need for "economic growth" at all expense. Is it really necessary to grow for the sake of growing, or is it perhaps better to slow down to make sure no one (or as little as possible) gets left behind? besides, the answers to all your "problems" is a simple matter of $$$. you cant get a Singaporean to work in those jobs because they/you cant pay them enough. My very intelligent political masters told me that when they raised their salaries, and my simple mind accepted readily. as for the unsustainable population, my folks were told stop at 2, and they readily complied. perhaps i should be compensated, because i could've had many more siblings, and that i should now be competing with my "siblings" instead of with FT/PR. no offence bro, just a friendly conversation. cheers. Do you mean that Sinkapor had made a mistakes by asking the older generation to stop breeding at 2? China ask their people to stop at 1. Will they face similar problem like sinkapor because more and more chinese people become richer and richer nowadays, then, when the day china economy surpass singapore, will singaporeans willing to go china and take up jobs that are shun by them? Or no more chinese people come to work as FT, will singaporeans themselves start to take up those jobs such as waiter/waitress/gabarge collector, etc etc???? ↡ Advertisement

Honestly speaking, one day china will be facing a situation that their own people no longer want to take up low paid jobs. Their one child policy had spoiled many of their new generation and it will come to one day that they need to import foreign cheap labors. Even Malaysia need foreign workers. Silver_z 1st Gear September 22, 2010 Share September 22, 2010 I'm not slamming anything or anybody, I just clearing the fact that Singapore do need PR/FT and not the other way around. Yes, Singapore is a nice place to live in which PR/FT would agree upon. So u mean PR/FT are stupid people? Coz they came here just cause we need them? It works both ways. SG needs them, and they need a better life. No one is stupid to go to hell for another person. Ask all the FT/PR why are you working here and not back home. Coz back home pay so low, there is better opportunity in SG. If you think SG needs you and not the other way round, mabbe u can go back M'sia to find work in an unfair society which gives benefits to a certain group of people, coz we can easily replace you with someone from India, China or philipines. Every our malaysian hookers are replaced by little dragon girls. You ain't that special my friend.

I don't take offense easily, especially through a friendly discourse. I am just disturbed by what was once a proudly touted multi-cultural society has it citizens, recently, harboring ultra-right wing sentiments towards immigration/immigrants. I have to agree with Pokyman in that Singaporeans expectations are outdoing themselves. I think I'll end here. It has been fun. Peace

I agree we do not need anymore "economic" growth, these numbers don't meen s--t. a higher GDP only behifits the GOV, the correct measure should be the income growth of singaporeans. funny thing about biz, even if they have cheaper labour they will not drop prices.. so the myth about cheaper labour is better for the economy is also b-------t. when is the last time Mc Donalds droped their price for a buger, since they are now flooded with FT's? The hare ran too quick and hence decided to take a stop and took a nap, at the end, the toitose chased up and eventually won the race. My believe, if singapore decide to slow down the growth and once if overtaken by all the neighboring countries, sorry to say that, may be you have to prepare to send your daughter to indonesia to work as a maid....... ...no offence...just an imagination what would be the consequences.... In current singapore situation, we already need to send out children oversea to work. although not as maid. ↡ Advertisement
