I've worked in pest control and have been researching insects for years, cannot possibly don't know

Yes, they have to shed their skin many times throughout their life in order to grow, until they reach adulthood and their wings are completely developed.

When I was in the UK a few years ago I saw one of these.

 

It was amazing to see but I heard it before I saw it.

 

They are not common to see in the UK apparently.

 

They are quite common in Singapore too actually, but you have to be out in a park or some outdoor environment with flowers towards the evening to see them. Quite interesting to watch and extremely difficult to photograph well.

Some moths are poisonous. A lot of people claim the scales (the so-called powder) on the wings of moths or butterflies can cause blindness but if I remember rightly there's no evidence to proof that this is true or that the scales can be anything more than an irritant - also in the case of poisonous moths the poison is in the body, not the scales. You'd have to eat the moth to get poisoned, but anyway this would probably cause nothing more than some stomach trouble.

i watched somewhere that you can actually eat roaches.

 

quite nutritious.......full of proteins.

by the way, an ex colleague related to me some years ago that her younger brother woke up in the middle of the night with a roach at entrance of his mouth (mouth was open while sleeping). Apparently, he does not brush his teeth before going to bed. He screamed until the entire family woke up and rushed to see

 

Dunno wtf the roach was doing also. Trying to pick out food between the teeth or what ?

 

Was very traumatised after that, had to wear a surgical mask to sleep at night for a while, and from then on, will brush teeth and rinse mouth before going to bed

Insects are generally rich in protein!

 

Eating roaches in itself shouldn't be harmful... but not the household cockroaches, as these pest species carry loads of bacteria. There are other species of cockroaches confined to forests or grassland which are much cleaner. Still, I wouldn't dare to eat them myself

Doesn't have to be picking food between the teeth - even human saliva might be an appetising snack or drink for a roach

Actually that cockroach just shedded its old exoskeleton and its pale appearance is temporary.
