Hybrid in this application is probably not to save petrol. It is to leverage on the immense torque that only electric motors can provide. I think it is fine if tuned this way. Makes for a more exciting car off the line.

But LFA is a different breed with that kind of technologies and price tag. It is made to take on the upmarket cars like Ferraris, Porsches etc. Not many people can afford unless you are buyer of Ferraris, Lambo etc at 1.3 million .

 

So rightfully, Toyota don't have even though with the emerged of the new GT86. The GT86 can put along side with WRX, Type R, Evo, VW R series but can never stand against the Gozillas of GTR, NSX unless they intro back the bullet prove engine of yesteryear SUPRA.

But hybrid is powderful hor. Year 2012 leow, technologies in car have to move too.

 

Anyway, you are still right coz why can't they just lup in the F1 2.4 litre NA engine that exudes over 700hp to the NSX. Come to think of it, it is easy to make a high horse power sports car but making technological advance one may not be that easy.
