Was there 2 yrs back in Nov, was transiting from EU for 2 days via Emirates... Good place for shopping IMO. Visit their traditional market (Souks) as well as the colossal shopping centres (juz walking one level will take a day). Prices of stuff in souks are cheaper compared to Sg.

Nov is their "winter month" 30 plus degree in the day, nitez same as Sg. All bus stops along the roads are air-conditioned and all signages have arabic and english wordings, so getting around is easy.

Can join their sand dunes bashing tour on Toyota 4WDs

Was working there in 2003 from Sep to Dec. Nov is still hot in the low 30s but Dec is markedly cooler, similar to Genting Highlands.

Taxis are reasonably cheap. They're so many shopping malls that if you like shopping its gonna take days to explore. Bought a Tissot there at which saved me 300 bucks compared with SG prices.

Never expect things to be cheaper there than Sg.

What else are recommended value buys?

Only stayed there for a few days on business a few months back.

Besides cheap cabs, they've cheap mrts too. I feel the cabs are better, since it's building to building and I can avoid the heat, tho the bus stops and train stations are cooled.

Do go for the sand bashing tour. It's quite fun and ends with a buffet type dinner in a mock desert camp with a belly dancer as entertainment. The camp sells some souvenirs and some other touristy stuff (henna, traditional clothes). Camels near the camp for you to have a go too, was free when I last went.

When you visit the Burj Khalifa, try to book the tickets to the sky deck before hand.I was told last minute tickets are 400 dirham, whereas purchased earlier would only be 100 dirham. Stay a while in the evening to see the musical fountain. It plays every 15 mins or so for a few mins. The fish tank is cool too.

Didn't get a chance to go to the theme parks.

Souks are interesting. Loose certified diamonds are quite cheap compared to Singapore and Malaysia.

edit -why do the word tickets become hyperlinks to stuff sold here?-
