Ok, this is not exactly a road trip, but I'm planning a trip to Boracay in March next year to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Any experience to share?

Previously wanted to travel there so planned a lot ahead of the last Natas....but canceled cos had to transfer multiple times (two plane and one coach) with total 7 hours plus in travelling.

if travelling time is not an issue,

do consider Estacio Uno for stay

and Philippine Air for transport as Cebu Air is plagued with delays.

March should be safe from monsoon,

Weather in Boracay is generally divided into two seasonal weather patterns known locally as the Amihan and Habagat seasons. In the Visayan language, Amihan means a cool northeast wind, and Habagat means west or southwest wind; south-west monsoon.[23] The Amihan season is characterized by moderate temperatures, little or no rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the NorthEast. The Habagat season is characterized by hot and humid weather, frequent heavy rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the west.[citation needed]

On Boracay, the main indicator of the switch between the Amihan and Habagat seasonal patterns is the switch in wind direction. In most years this transition is abrupt and occurs overnight. In some years there is a period of perhaps a week or two where the wind will switch between Amihan and Habagat patterns several times before settling into the pattern for the new season. As a general rule of thumb, Boracay will be in the Amihan weather pattern from sometime in September or October to sometime in May or June and in the Habagat weather pattern for the remainder of the year. These dates can vary in individual years, though.

I was there 9 months ago. Fabulous place, i love the beach and crystal clear waters. But as said, the journey there is not easy, a lot of transfers, actually was a nightmare for me, u will spend a lot of time travelling. But to me, it was worth it when i got there, i really chilled out. I still have fond memories of soaking in the jacuzzi tub on my room balcony, perched on a cliff and watching the sun go down with a cold beer within reach.

Depending on your arrival airport, it could be airport transfer, followed by land transfer, island transfer and then land transfer again to hotel, easily 7- 10hrs total. There are 2 airports, caticlan or kalibo, caticlan is way faster since it is very near boracay. Kalibo is 2 hrs land transfer away, but is much safer. Why much safer? Cos the flights there are not so frequently cancelled as the airport is larger. I went by Cebu pacific, horrendous experience but mitigated by them going out of the way to make special arrangements for me. They cancelled my outgoing flight from caticlan and did not inform me, i reached the airport to find my flight gone! The mad rush to catch my connecting flight to taipei at manila thereafter was mildly speaking, really memorable....

Yes, I heard about the horrendous travelling. That's the main deterrent for most holiday makers.

Estacio Uno looks good. Going into my KIV list.

Those you recommended are leagues more expensive. I guess we'll have to put up with the crowd.....

A lot...and the so-called celebrities..but same features as those celebs from MY and Thai...but that's just me [laugh]

Worst you get there during the PH...or long weekends...but the place really is relaxing...

If you'd ask me...if going back to the Philippines...I'd go here..travel supposedly easier less transfers...

i went a few yrs ago. Took a package fm http://www.triplestartravel.com/ via http://flyseair.com/destinations/boracay-caticlan/

incld return air tickets fm manila to caticlan, sea transfer and hotel (Regency)

not too bad.

interestingly, on the return flight to manila, the air phil plane at the same departure time had to leave all baggage behind due to overweight LOL. We were glad we were on Seair.

On boracay, great and cheap seafood and beer (sgd2/btl?) but too many touts trying to sell us sunglasses, tattoos etc.

Check out Nami Resort. Not 5 star, more boutique-like, situated on top of a cliff at a quiet beach just north of white beach

Lovely beach... But journey there a bit turn off. Total 9hrs from the time u board in Singapore airport to their hotel.

Well in the past Maldives also required multiple transfers but think just recent years after much commercializing tat SQ did a direct flight route there from Singapore. Perhaps boracay will see the same soon..

Just curious wats yr budget? Cos with flight n stay 3d2n boracay need at least sgd800.

For 5d3n Maldives/Mauritius just about ~1200 with SQ/air Mauritius direct, also most are full board

Will avoid PH. I'm not too limited by budget, and considering I'm already putting up with all the travel and time, I want to make sure I really enjoy the food and the amenities

The package covers just flight/hotel only, or include local tours?

I'm thinking of just lazing by the beach / pool and little else unless there's something really worthwhile experiencing.

Like the idea of plentiful seafood. Time to press my gluttony button
