Phochem Neutral Newbie September 14, 2003 Share September 14, 2003 dun tink can totally prevent swirl marks, minimise only. contant waxing should be able to cover swirl marks. Keep the cloth clean at all times. When drying the car after shampooing, fill a pail w/ clean water and always rinse the cloth after a few wipes, thats my way... sometimes a bit siong though. Jacko Neutral Newbie September 14, 2003 Share September 14, 2003 Hi, I suggest you pay some money to the pros to Zaino/Klasse/Autoglym/Glare your car since it's still new(a good beginning will last forever!). The pros will teach you how to prevent scratches and swirl mark and the right way to wax your car. Use micro fibre cloth to clean away the wax if you still prefer to sweat it out yourself, but half the time we did it the wrong way. You might want to check out Groomworks Clubshine. You can either go for a one time grooming or package grooming depending of you budget. FYI, I'm one of the victims who engage those MSCP carwasher & shopping centre polish and end up with permanent damage until I go to groomworks to get my paint work fixed. Now swee swee liow . Zrun Neutral Newbie September 14, 2003 Share September 14, 2003 (edited) 1. use sheep skin wash mitt. Not too expensive, and very durable. 2. use microfiber cloth to dry. 3. Clay before waxing. 4. Hand wax your car every month. I wax my car every 2-4 months. I still have swirl marks, minimal though. When cleaning the car, NEVER rub the paint to remove some stains... It'll create serious swirl marks. Don't apply too much pressure when cleaning the car. Edited September 14, 2003 by Zrun
Assassin Clutched September 14, 2003 Share September 14, 2003 (edited) Hi EHonda, Black colour cars are indeed difficult to maintain. Swirl marks are inevitable, it is a matter of how we minimise it. If you have not done any polishing/waxing before, then it would be advisable to send your vehicle to one of the grooming centres to have it done professionally the first time round. Learn from them, and then add on the subsequent layers yourself. You might to try grooming centres such as GROOMWORKS or CAZCOMP... their contact details and web site addresses are listed in the RESOURCES folder here --> http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=177660;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread If you intend to DIY instead...then do check out our DETAILING threads in the RESOURCES folder for some tips. When applying polish, try not to apply in circles...but in straight parallel lines to lessen the incidence of getting swirl marks just in case any dirt gets stuck under your applicator. The INTRO TO DETAILING PRODUCTS thread is here --> http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=193514;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread://http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gfo...=un read#unread For washing, try using a sponge or washing mitt, for drying...a chamois. For applying polish/sealant/wax...use a foam/microfibre applicator. For buffing...use a micrifibre cloth or 100% cotton towel. Hope this helps. Cheers Edited September 14, 2003 by Assassin
Toledosun Neutral Newbie September 15, 2003 Share September 15, 2003 here's a few suggestions: 1) check with your salesman now whether they plan to machine polish or hand polish your car before delivery. If machine polish.... stop them now! This is because when they machine polish your car, there may be dirt caught in the buffer and this causes circular swirl marks in your paint work. At night, go to any HDB car parks and take a good look at the roof of the cars. In many cases, you'll be able to see circular swirl marks. Those are caused by machines. 2) never send your cars to auto car washes because those leave marks as well. 3) always check you cloths before using them on your paintwork. If you see specks of dirt etc, remove if before wiping your car with them; 4) for drying cars, use good quality 100% cotton towels. These cost about $14 from Robinsons. 5) for removing wax, use good microfibre towels. If you're interested, I have these on sale at turf city's marketplace. The shop's name is Sun's Gift's and Souvenirs unit no. #04-167 (open Tuesdays to Sundays, 11a.m-9p.m.). You don't have to rush to buy my towels. Go to Giant, Autobacs or the Home-fix DIY shops and take a look at the microfibre towels that they have there. This way, you can do a comparison before buying. Enjoy your car! Toledosun Neutral Newbie September 15, 2003 Share September 15, 2003 I'm using zaino. I use a cotton applicator to apply my zaino and the microfibre towels to remove zaino and to apply the gloss spray. If you're using wax, you can use the MF towel to remove the wax. Remember to tell them not to machine polish your car! I
Toybabe Neutral Newbie September 15, 2003 Share September 15, 2003 Hi Ehonda, why not join us in our usual W&W sessions. More fun if we do together . I think for black, you've got to take care more. Dont just wipe your dirty car, have a thorough wash. Use chamois to dry and like what the rest say microfibre towel to buff off wax. If u wax often, they will cover all those tiny swirlmarks. I always do it once a month and so far so good, can hardly see swirlmarks Enjoy your new babe
Ehonda Neutral Newbie September 15, 2003 Author Share September 15, 2003 Thanks for yr reply. Can adv when and where are yr W&W sessions? maybe can joint yr next time... Also can i use microfibre towel to wax?
Zrun Neutral Newbie September 16, 2003 Share September 16, 2003 I basically replaced all terry towels with microfiber, because terry towels has lots of lint. No lint = less frustration. I also bought a California Water Blade.. Cut your drying time in half. IMO, dump your initial investment in a water blade(drying), absorber cloth(drying), microfiber towels (windows/interior/waxing), lambswool wash mitten(washing). Don't get leather charmois for drying, it is a waste of money.
Toybabe Neutral Newbie September 16, 2003 Share September 16, 2003 This week W&W dont know where yet. Where do u stay btw? For application of wax use the applicator, those spongy type and buff off with the microfibre cloth.
