Fireman 1st Gear November 20, 2003 Share November 20, 2003 (edited) Does Autoglym Car Glass Polish have the same effect as RainX? Water just "roll" off the windscreen? cheers.... Hey EGLS, No, it does not have effects of RainX. It just restores the screen back to original with nothing on it. It is actually a mild abrasive cleaner for windscreens. Like CIF, but not sure what other "leow" they add in to it to clear off the rainX completely. What I understand is that RainX contains silicone that help beads the water particles together to form a bigger water droplets so that it rolls off the windscreen.(something like that la) Its good in a way cos you dun really have to use the wiper at all even in heavy rain pour. But the down side is when it wears off and wiper is needed, the juttering will occur. By the way, Autoglym have another glass cleaner that I think does almost the same job as RainX. Maybe u should go take a look at the shelves at Giant or Carrefour or http://www.autoglym.com to find out more. Hope this helps. Egls Neutral Newbie November 20, 2003 Author Share November 20, 2003 Are u refering to Fast Glass from Autoglym? still prefer to use Autoglym products after using the SRP & EGP.
Fireman 1st Gear November 20, 2003 Share November 20, 2003 You know what, actually I think Autoglym does not have something that works like RainX. Autoglym Fast Glass does not contain silicone as it states in their product write-out that silicone will cause smearing in wet weather ( no idea what it means). Besides Autoglym, I also use Megueir and Hi-Gloss88 products. At times, I feel Autoglym really ex ......
Teckheng Neutral Newbie November 20, 2003 Share November 20, 2003 Ya, agree it's expensive but it's a fair price to pay for something good esp on a metal which worth 70-90k. But it's worth the money. First few product I try, althought it's like 9.90 or 11.90 for a wax or wash and wax. The results wasn't that good. So the money wasted will be more. *(Test water product A $9.00 + Test water product B $11.90 = $21.90) And a AutoGlym bottle of Car Shampoo is $15.90 (Shell Petrol + Shell award points[nod]). Like they say, 1 cents cost, 1 cents quality. You pay for what you pay for.
Assassin Clutched November 20, 2003 Share November 20, 2003 Qns: I now using my old wash and wax on my rims. Any comments ? Hi Teckheng, Personally, I would rather not use an 2-in-1 [wash + wax] products on the car etc. Use a normal car shampoo will do fine. There is a list of products in the INTRO TO DETAILING PRODUCTS thread in the RESOURCES folder. Do check it out. Cheers
Assassin Clutched November 20, 2003 Share November 20, 2003 less than half-full ? wow.. I thought apply a thin layer evenly around the surface and wait 30-60mins ? 5 coats will take 5 hrs + washing 30mins + Dry (10mins, if u wipe or 30mins if you wait) You spend more than 6hours cleaning and waxing ? For EGP...after application..try waiting about 1.5hours before buffing off.
Geck0 Neutral Newbie November 23, 2003 Share November 23, 2003 I totally agree! I always wanted to buy autoglym polish but the price put me off. So I tried to save money by buying cheaper brand polish products (won't mention names). But the results were disastrous - lots of swirl marks and uneveness not to mention using lots of strength. After using one time I gave up. Then 2 days ago, I decided to buy the Autoglym Resin Polish. I am really surprise with the results. I am planning to buy the Extra gloss soon. Normal_aspirated Clutched November 25, 2003 Share November 25, 2003 U can't beat AutoGlym, I heard Jaguar car owners use 'em. After applying Resin Polish and finished with Extra Gloss, WOW! Yr car paint-work like new but on the expensive side
Teckheng Neutral Newbie November 26, 2003 Share November 26, 2003 The Extra Gloss - Only if you willing to spend 5-6 hrs after waxing and drying your car and 2-3 more helping hands. Or you wash your car in front of your house if you own a parking lot. I give up Extra Gloss as I only got 2-3hrs on Saturday to clean my car. Then Sunday work. Addition, I got back problem, slipdisc. Not very good for my poor back.

Kardachia Neutral Newbie February 9, 2004 Share February 9, 2004 Hi Saaber, just want to ask some questions regarding Autoglym. I bought an Autoglym package consisting of car shampoo, glass polish and super resin polish. Happily I go about doing the recommended , wash and polish. Car feels smooth to the touch, like it very much. Now, I discover there is Extra Gross Protect. The questions are: 1) Can I just wash it once, and apply the EGP without going thru the polish again? 2) When applying multiple layers of EGP, can it be one immediately after buffing off the previous layer? Thanks.
Junjie 1st Gear February 10, 2004 Share February 10, 2004 Hi Bro, Me having the same questions as Kardachia, was using autoglym shampoo and the super resin polish for the past two weeks. Went down to stamford and brought the extra gloss polish (which , is this a sealant as stated on the bottle?) Me not too sure on the procedure if I m gona use the EGP after polish my car...can anyone be so kind to elaborate on the correct procedure to wash, then polish and finally using the Extra Gloss Polish..what are the correct way to apply and how long do we have to wait before buffing it off after applying EGP? after the EGP, how to maintain it, can still wash with the autoglym shampoo and apply EGP again? then when to use back the SRP as was mentioned that if reapply SRP , it will also remove all the layers of EGP?? Appreciate any advise...
Kardachia Neutral Newbie February 10, 2004 Share February 10, 2004 was at Giant,IMM last Saturday and bought a Autoglym package consisisting of 1) Glass Polish 2) Shampoo 3) Super Resin Polish at only $29.90. Yes, the Extra Gloss Protect (EGP) is the one mentioned in the label of the Super Resin Polish (SRP). That is the one that did not come in the package, so after applying the SRP, I waited for about 45 mins to 1 hrs before I buff off. Surface is really smooth to the touch. Great product! I still have not purchase the EGP yet, will try to get it before the weekend, maybe from some shell station I hope. HOw much did u pay for the EGP? Saaber Neutral Newbie February 11, 2004 Share February 11, 2004 best is to leave it for more than 1 hour befoe buffing off the EGP... ↡ Advertisement
