  1. So just very recently I went on a trip to Msia n got into a car accident with a malaysia car. Genting to be exact. Was somewhere after Pagoh towards SG. Traffic was relatively heavy for an evening drive back. I was e one in the wrong here as I slammed into a MY Lexus. First thing was panic. Ever watched those videos on Facebook sites like Beh Chia Lor, Singapore Reckless Driver n get angry when the driver who caused the accident nvr come down immediately to check on the car that he/she rammed into? Well now I really know why.. When it happened I was overwhelmed. Shock, panic, basically overwhelmed by the feelings of doom. Getting into an accident in SG is one thing, to have it happen in MY, its my first. So just wanted to share my experience on what happened so for those who unfortunately get into one in msia, will not panic like i did. - Don't follow too closely to the car infront. Always look far. I know its smthing we all get complacent with at times. NSHW traffic as we all know it can be unpredictable. Fast, slow, fast, slow. Don't try to tailgate, always maintain a safe following distance. I wasnt following too closely or anything but I think I just didnt react fast enough to the sudden chain of ebrake. - Make sure ur phone have auto-roaming. u need to be able to call out during an emergency, data to whatsapp (some tow trucks may ask u to send photos of the exact location). - Make sure u have all the emergency numbers in ur phone. Well I didnt have. The PLUS hotline is 1800 88 0000. It is the equivalent of our EMAS. Their PLUS will only tow ur vehicle to the nearest exit. For my case they didnt and i have no idea why. They only assisted to stop traffic and tow my car and the Lexus to the road shoulder. - Standby a reliable tow truck number. Even with a tow truck number, u need to decide if u want to repair ur car in a workshop in jb or tow it back to sg. If insurance claim I think it's definitely going to be tow back to sg. For my case tow was my only option because the front of my car was badly damaged, tyre also ruptured becuz of the impact. Settled for insurance claim. And it is also best to prepare a few tow truck numbers to call. Some of them may not be available when u need them. Some of them may be located all the way in JB and will take more than an hour plus to come. No good to be stranded on the NSHW. Traffic is heavy, very dangerous. I paid RM100 for a random tow truck that stopped to tow my car to the nearest exit. I think he is those opportunist kind who will target accident cars and try to offer to tow ur car for a large sum of money. They know u are desperate so even if they offer u a high amount, u have no choice. But yah I only asked them to tow to the nearest exit so I can find other solution. Base on what I encountered, the "market rate" to tow ur car back to SG is about RM1200 to RM1400 from but also depends on ur location. This will be all the way back to ur workshop in SG. If there are cheaper towing options, please do share here for the rest of us. Never know when we may need it. I also wished I was a member of AAS. Might be able to activate AAM towing services. But u need to be a member and I wasn't one. - What to do upon an accident. Same thing like SG... If all parties are okay, decide on settlement. Take photos, call tow truck. Exchange particulars with the other party. Take photos of IC, driving license. If you are claiming another party, try to take photo of his identity card with his house add. We also made a police report. I dunno if that's the usual practice but the police accompanied us to the nearest exit to take our statements. n becuz I was at fault here, it means they will slap me with a traffic fine for careless driving. The fine is RM300. This fine is also necessary in order for the malaysian driver to claim me for insurance. N i think the statement is also needed in order to tow ur car back to sg. - After all done, wait for your tow truck to get back to sg. The truck lane open only after 12am so I had to wait till then as it happened late evening and by the time everything settled, alrdy damn late.. - So in total, my car was towed by 3 different msia tow trucks. 1st was to the nearest exit, second towed my car nearer to jb and then change another tow truck to tow into sg. right now the fate of my car lies in the hands of my workshop. just the luck of the msian car to get into an accident with an sg car plate. his claim against me will def take awhile. as for me, it is a lesson well learnt. i can blame the car way infront who caused the jam brake but to have banged into the back of a car, that is on me and my fault. no one else to blame but myself. so many trips to msia n this is the first time i gotten into this mess and i was also unprepared. to the rest who regularly travel up north, do drive safely and make sure u have sufficient cash for emergencies and the right contacts on hand in case of an emergency. even better if u have contacts to a reliable workshop in jb should ur damages not be that severe and u wanna try to get the repair done in msia. be composed and dont panic. i am also fortunate that the driver of the lexus is understanding even in that situation. knowing i am helpless he tried his best to talk to the tow truck guy and police for me as i dont speak malay. the thing is i can blame myself for what happened etc, but at the end of the day, im just glad to be bk home safely n that i didnt hurt anyone. this is going to be an expensive lesson but i have to say im happy i am even ALIVE to be able to type this. okay thats all!

The tightening of the rule is meant to reduce the number of people who decline to pick a flat and ensure more efficient allocation, so that those who need a flat can secure it more quickly, said National Development Minister Desmond Lee on Thursday. Currently, first-timers will only be moved to the second-timer category for a year when balloting for flats if they do not book a BTO flat twice. Far fewer flats are set aside for second-timers - 5 per cent of four-room and larger flats, versus at least 95 per cent for first-timer families. Mr Lee also announced other measures to help first timers secure their home during the debate on his ministry’s budget, including setting aside more flats for a new subset of first-timer families - those with Singaporean children aged 18 and below as well as married couples aged 40 and below. From the August BTO exercise, up to 40 per cent of the flat supply will be reserved for this group of applicants, up from 30 per cent now. Up to 60 per cent of Sales of Balance Flats (SBF) units will be set aside for them as well, an increase from the current 50 per cent. SBF flats are typically either completed or in various stages of construction. Applicants under this new First-Timer (Parents & Married Couples) priority category will also get one additional ballot chance in their BTO and SBF applications, for a total of three ballot chances. Various MPs including Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim (Chua Chu Kang GRC), Ms Foo Mee Har (West Coast GRC) and Mr Seah Kian Peng (Marine Parade GRC) asked if more support can be given to help Singaporeans buy their first home amid the strong housing demand and elevated resale prices. Help will be provided on several fronts, starting with the ramping up of flat supply in the next few years, said Mr Lee. Close to 100,000 homes are expected to be completed between 2023 and 2025 across both the private and public housing markets, he said. Of these, almost 40,000 homes will be completed this year - the highest in the last five years, including pre-Covid-19 years of 2018 and 2029, he added. This increased supply should help to alleviate some pressure in the rental market as those who have been waiting for their keys will stop renting, and new homes will provide additional rental supply, said Mr Lee in response to Mr Louis Chua (Sengkang GRC). On tightening the rules for BTO flat non-selection, Mr Lee said it strikes a balance between considering the interests of flat applicants with urgent housing needs and being fair to those who successfully balloted for a flat. He noted that the drop-out rate for BTO flats has hovered around 40 per cent in the past few years, even as strong housing demand pushed up application rates. This means that four in 10 applicants either do not turn up or decline to book a unit at their flat selection appointments. Some reasons include people wanting only flats on high floors, trying their luck or the remaining flats being out of their budget, he said. “Understandably, some would rather give up the opportunity to select a flat now, and wait longer for a better flat. But whatever the reason, such applicants do crowd out other homebuyers who may have more pressing needs,” he said, urging Singaporeans to only apply for flats if they really intend to purchase one. The rules will also be tightened for second-timers from August. Those who do not pick a BTO flat when invited to do so will have to wait one year before they can apply for a flat again. Currently, this only kicks in after they fail to book a flat twice. Mr Lee said HDB will only waive the rule if applicants have 10 or fewer BTO flats, or five or fewer SBF flats, to choose from. “We understand that some applicants may have genuine reasons for not selecting a flat. Buying a home is a large financial decision, so we want to be fair to applicants who have very limited options when they are invited to select their flat,” he said. Where there are extenuating circumstances, HDB may exercise flexibility to waive the rule, he said. Mr Lee said the new First-Timer (Parents & Married Couples) priority category is targeted at those buying their first home and to help young families settle down more quickly. The current first-timer category covers a wide range of applicants, including those who already have their own homes but have not previously received housing subsidies. About 10 per cent of all first-timer applicants fall into the new category, Mr Lee said. To qualify, families must not have owned or sold a local residential property before, or did not have a chance to book a flat in the past five years before their application. This is on top of having at least one Singaporean child or meeting the age limit of 40 for married couples. Applicants do not need to submit additional documents to qualify for the new category. In addition, those under the new category will get first priority when applying for four-room or smaller BTO flats in non-mature estates, Mr Lee said. He said these applicants will be shortlisted ahead of all others who come under the expanded Family and Parenthood Priority Scheme - previously known as the Parenthood Priority Scheme. They thus stand a substantially higher chance of being invited to select a flat, he added. On why the measures will only take place from August, Mr Lee said: “We are announcing the changes early to give everyone some time to understand how these changes may affect them. And HDB will also need some time to stress-test and implement the system changes.”

So a quick disclaimer before we continue - We don't know what might happen after the Traffic Police gets alerted to this video evidence, or they might have even stopped the truck driver after the video got cut off. But what's happening in the video seems rather peculiar. Shared on SG Road Vigilante's page is this video of a Malaysian truck doing more than 90km/h on lane 1 on PIE heading towards Tuas on the 22nd of February 2021. Sometime later in the video, the Traffic Police closed in in their car and it looked like they had the intention to notify the Scania truck of its offence. Naturally, most of us would go "haha the truck sure get it from the Police!" but no, nothing happened! What a miracle for the truck driver. But, as I mentioned at the start of this post, the Traffic Police might act after watching the video. It's a little too early to celebrate yet Mr Truck Driver. Here's what some netizens had to say about the matter. What do we think? Well, if he got off without any punishment, he should consider himself lucky and not do it again.

I'm 30 years old, male. 1 Year - $1995, 0% NCD, Excess: $600 2 Year - $3331, 0%NCD, Excess: $600 May i know if i should take the first year or take the 2 year package. Redzuan: Malaysia's first-ever flying car to be revealed this year KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Malaysia's first-ever flying car – driven by local technology – is expected to be unveiled this year, says Datuk Seri Redzuan Md Yusof (pic). The Entrepreneur Development Minister said a prototype of the car already exists. "This year is a realistic target because we have the technology. It is all about the speed of implementation," he told reporters after launching the Growth Malaysia initiative here on Tuesday (Feb 26). He said the car would be safe and capable of flying at low altitude at a reasonable speed. "Investment to build the prototype was slightly over RM1mil," he said. Mohd Redzuan said the flying car project is a way for the government to create an environment that stimulates people to think about new technology. "We are providing the catalyst and ecosystem to stimulate the people to think beyond what we do today," he said. He said the project is also to utilise the country's capabilities in the aerospace, drone, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and automotive sectors. "Malaysia has the skill set to excel in the field of aerospace, drone, UAV and the national car. We need to use our skill set because the bottom line is we want to be a producing nation," he said. However, he said the project is separate from the third national car project envisioned by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. On Growth Malaysia, he said the initiative is led by online to offline platform operator Fave to help Malaysian offline retailers to go digital in terms of payments, marketing, data and financial services. Fave founder Joel Neoh said the initiative aims to help 100,000 restaurants across Malaysia to grow digitally by 2020. He said collaborators for the initiative included Grab Malaysia, Maybank, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, Funding Societies and Productivity Nexus for Retail and Food and Beverages. – Bernama
  9. no Huawei, no problem ... UK’s first 5G network taster goes live in six cities tomorrow The UK’s first 5G consumer mobile network is launching tomorrow in six cities. Mobile network operator EE will switch on the next-gen cellular connectivity in select locations in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester — promising “increased speeds, reliability and connectivity”. Though of course consumers will also need to have a 5G handset and 5G price plan, as well as being in the right location, to see any of the touted benefits. EE says it expects customers to experience an increase in speeds of around 100-150Mbps when using the 5G network — “even in the busiest areas” where network coverage extends. “Some customers will break the one gigabit-per-second milestone on their 5G smartphones,” it adds. Ten other UK cities are set to get a taste of EE’s 5G later by the end of this year, also in select, busier parts — namely Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol — with more cities planned to come on stream in 2020. While rival mobile operator Vodafone has said it will began its own rollout of a 5G network in July. Among the advantages for 5G that EE is pushing on its website to try to persuade users to upgrade are better connections in busy places (such as festivals or stadiums); faster download speeds to support movie downloads and higher quality video streaming; and a gamer-friendly lack of lag — which it bills as “almost instant Internet connection”. Whether those additions will convince masses of mobile users to shell out for an EE 5G device plan — which start at £53 per month — remains to be seen. Earlier this month the network operator, which is owned by BT, launched its first 5G Sim-only handset plans, and began ranging 5G handsets — from the likes of Samsung, LG, OnePlus and Oppo. Though not from Huawei. Last week it told the BBC it would pause on offering any 5G smartphones made by Chinese device maker Huawei — saying it wanted to “make sure we can carry out the right level of testing and quality assurance” for its customers. Huawei remains subject to a US executive order intended to dissuade US companies from doing business with it on national security grounds. And Google has been reported to have taken a decision to withdrawn some Android-related services from Huawei — raising question-marks about the future quality of its smartphones. (The Chinese company’s involvement in building out core UK 5G networks is also subject to restriction, with the government reportedly intending to impose limits.) EE says the 5G network it’s launching tomorrow is an additional layer on top of its existing 4G network — dubbing it “phase 1”. So this switch on is really a toe in the water. Or, well, a marketing opportunity to claim a 5G first. It describes it as a “non-standalone” deployment, saying it’s combining 4G and 5G to “give customers the fastest, most reliable mobile broadband experience they’ve ever had” — saying it’s planning to upgrade more than 100 cell sites to 5G per month, as it builds out 5G coverage. It will also expand its 4G coverage into rural areas and add more capacity to 4G sites — as 4G will remain the fall-back option for years to come (if not indefinitely). Phase 2 of EE’s 5G rollout, from 2022, will introduce the “full next generation 5G core network, enhanced device chipset capabilities, and increased availability of 5G-ready spectrum”. “Higher bandwidth and lower latency, coupled with expansive and growing 5G coverage, will enable a more responsive network, enabling truly immersive mobile augmented reality, real-time health monitoring, and mobile cloud gaming,” EE adds. A third phase of the 5G rollout, from 2023, is slated to bring Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications, Network Slicing and multi-gigabit-per-second speeds. “This phase of 5G will enable critical applications like real-time traffic management of fleets of autonomous vehicles, massive sensor networks with millions of devices measuring air quality across the entire country, and the ‘tactile internet’, where a sense of touch can be added to remote real-time interactions,” EE suggests. As we’ve said before, there’s little call for consumers to rush to upgrade to a 5G handset, with network coverage the exception not the rule, even as building out the touted benefits of so-called ‘intelligent connectivity’ will be a work of years.

Hence, our girls will be wearing personalised crop tops with shorts and flip flops.” “I do not intend to exploit any females to dress in a revealing or skimpily manner and it’s going to be just another job for them,” he added. She say from 14 Aug they are closing the counter top up at immgration. Meaning to say no touch and go no entry There is two thing that will happen. the jam will be damn bad as a lot of people don't have sufficent credit. I got this deal , buyer interested to buy my car.. but the middleman ( car today ) claims that I will need to do a transfer first name to new owner first , then i get paid 1-2days after the car name transfer.. in all my car buying and selling , even buyer with loan , all full payment is done immediately after transfer name is done ? I found it very fishy.. anyone any enlightment me ?? 1) what is name transfer and this middleman dod not transfer ? 2) they charge super high % commission up to 5% if u want the payment done on the before transfer ! Maybe it their tactics to get instant commission rather from loan and insurance ? 3) there is no confirmation letter or agreement that fund is transfer own witheld by them ( middleman ) ... any member car to share.. Is this a scam ?

That was in 1991 on a Toyota Starlet till now on Skoda Superb.. it been on more than 10 cars since.. it help me see blind spot and save me countless time.. so insecure without it.. The other thing not on first car but fourth car is my number plate.. from 1996 Civic SiR till now.. it is a 1981 ER plate..

We already know that it is called the Type 130, as it was made official at the Shanghai Auto Show a couple of months ago. When the new car is unveiled on July 16th, it will become the first new car Lotus has produced since the Evora was launched in 2008. Thus marks the rapid development that has been possible under Geely ownership and an influx of capital. The new Lotus EV has been confirmed for production at the Lotus facility in Hethel, where the company has been based since 1966. Just 130 examples of the so-called hypercar will be built, though we don’t yet know what it looks like or how much it will cost or how fast it is. I am personally a fan of Lotus founder Colin Chapman’s lightweight and simplicity ethos. This has made for some exquisite Lotus models over the decades, and for a long time it lead to ultimate success in motorsports. While the company has certainly waned from the international powerhouse it once was, the current range of products, while ancient, are still quite good. I am confident that the Lotus engineers are capable and can still make a quality sports car with excellent handling characteristics. This Type 130 should be an interesting motor car. Hopefully with the EV engineering Williams have learned supplying Formula E with batteries, and the influx of actual money from the Chinese, Lotus can regain some of its former glory. The Lotus Type 130 will be unveiled in London on July 16th. Production is said to take place shortly thereafter with deliveries beginning in 2020. Lotus has produced chassis for electrification before, as it supplied Elise to an early Tesla for the original Roadster.

World's first fully digital valves open up engine possibilities https://newatlas.com/camcon-digital-iva-valve-system/55827/ Camcon COO Mark Gostick (left) with Technical Director Roger Stone (right)(Credit: Camcon Automotive) British company Camcon Automotive has built the first fully electronic engine valve system, uncoupled from the crankshaft, that offers unprecedented control over the combustion cycle. On top of power and emissions improvements, it also opens up some weird and wonderful capabilities we've never seen before, such as giving 4-stroke engines brief 2-stroke power boosts. Variable valve timing is nothing new. It's been obvious to manufacturers for decades that the optimal valve operation is different when the engine's doing different things, and that changing the timing, lift and duration of the valve events on an engine to suit different scenarios can result in power, torque, efficiency and emissions advantages. What makes Camcon's system different is that it allows complete, instant and unrestricted control over exactly what any intake or exhaust valve is doing, at any time, regardless of what the engine itself is doing. That's because Camcon's IVA (Intelligent Valve Actuation) system is fully electronic, with no mechanical attachment to the crankshaft. There are no timing belts or valve springs, with each valve getting its own miniature camshaft, complete with a desmodromic system that opens and closes the valves precisely and mechanically. And instead of being driven off the crank, each valve's camshaft is controlled by an electric motor. These motors can rotate either way with total precision, and for a given valve event they can rotate through fully to give 100 percent of the available valve lift, or they can stop part-way through and return back to closed, so you can get literally any degree of valve lift you want, at any time. There's a video at the bottom of the page to give you a better visual explanation. The system knows the position of the crankshaft at all times thanks to a rotary position sensor – in fact, the whole system runs under real-time, closed-loop control, so that valve events are timed perfectly against what the motor's doing. "What that means," says Camcon COO Mark Gostick on a Skype call from his Cambridge office, "is we can give the engine exactly what it wants at low revs, and exactly what it wants at higher revs, and anywhere in between, and you don't have to compromise at all. You can change timing, you can change duration, you can change lift, you can even shape the events if you want. You can do double events. You can change the profile of your camshaft between one event and the next. You can go from your idle setting to 100 percent throttle in one revolution. You can do pretty much anything. You've got what we like to call a digital crankshaft." It seems like a simple enough idea, moving to electronic control of the valves. So why hasn't it been done before? "Electromechanically, you could look at it and ask 'why didn't you do that 20 years ago?'" says Gostick. "The difference is in the electronics that control it. What's happened in the recent past is that there's now sufficient processing bandwidth at a low price that can tolerate top of engine conditions, so you can actually put real time control on top of these motors." The low-hanging fruit Naturally, this lets car manufacturers run highly optimized versions of the same tricks they've done with traditional VVT systems previously – bit of extra torque down low, bit of extra horsepower up high, improved emissions. And the company has several bench engines running, as well as one built into a drivable car to demonstrate these kinds of simple advantages. "We've got thousands of hours of dynamometer time, showing what we can do," says Gostick. "This is on the inlet side only – we decided to do the inlet side first because it's lower risk, but it has the most well-known benefits. Nobody's ever done variable valve timing on the exhausts, so the benefits are less well understood. "In terms of dynamometer results, we've only done what's called steady state testing, where the thing is running at a fixed point or a series of fixed points. And against the Jaguar Ingenium, which is pretty much a state of the art petrol engine, we got CO2 benefits of up to 7.5 percent improvement. We believe with transient calibration and all that kind of stuff where we integrate it properly into a vehicle, we could show CO2 benefits of up to 20 percent. We're now in the process of making 16-valve engines, that's inlet and exhaust, and we'll be running that when it's ready." More integrated possibilities Camcon believes the benefits of this IVA system will really begin to add up once it's more tightly integrated into the car, particularly in the hybrid space. And Gostick certainly doesn't think the gasoline engine is anywhere near the end of its rope. "People might say 'why are you still jumping through hoops on internal combustion engines, when everybody knows it's all going to be batteries?' Well, actually, if you talk to people in the industry and look at what's happening, most take the view that for the foreseeable future, most vehicles are going to have some form of internal combustion engine on board, be it plug-in hybrids, regular hybrids or whatever. And those hybrid vehicles still need to have very well tuned, high performing engines. "If you've got a plug-in hybrid, you've got built-in intelligence on board that decides when to run off the battery, and when to run off the engine. Part of that calculation is how much energy it might take to re-start the engine. Restarting the engine takes a lot of battery each time, and then you've got to recharge the battery from the engine, which has consequences for the overall performance. "But if you've got complete control over the valves, you can substantially reduce the amount of energy it takes to restart the engine. Because you can open the valves right up, so the starter motor just has to overcome friction, as opposed to compressing the gases in the chambers as well. By doing things like that, you can change the equation for when you re-start the engine. "In a hybrid vehicle, with a given size battery, you can substantially increase its pure electric mileage capacity. We have a sense of it, we haven't bagged it up with real world examples yet, but typically plug-in hybrids have a pure electric range around 30 miles (48 km), something like that. We think we can probably get that to 40 or 50 (64 or 80 km), which is reasonably substantial. That's not just by using this start-stop thing, that's including some other ideas we've got around things like the air conditioning and other integrations. "Hybrids are very interesting, because you can use electricity at some points, and internal combustion at other points, and if you optimize that, you can play some really interesting tricks, like deciding when to run the valve train off the battery, and when to run it off the alternator. Sometimes the electric system produces too much electricity, more than it can store, so you can use it in different ways. We're just starting to scratch the surface of them really. "It's things like this, which are not obvious ... I mean, we can talk about the headline performance improvements you can give on a raw engine, but actually there's practically the same benefit again if you do the integration into the vehicle properly. You can play new tricks that you couldn't when the valves were linked to the crankshaft." Getting really crazy with digital valves While the above kinds of techniques do push a little into uncharted territory, going further with the IVA offers some truly out-there potential. "One of the things you can do with this valve train is to do all sorts of relatively off-the-beaten-path combustion approaches," says Gostick. "So people are talking about deep Miller cycle and Lambda 2 and HCCI and this kind of stuff, things where you need very precise control over the combustion conditions to do them. We regard ourselves as an enabler. "The two-stroke thing is slightly off to the side. The trend in car engines has been downsizing, downspeeding, all these kinds of things. All of which work fine when you're cruising on the motorway, but when you're trying to pull away really quickly from traffic lights or at a roundabout or whatever, and you put your foot down, that's when you really feel like you've got a small engine in a big car. "What you can do – in principle at least, we haven't demonstrated it yet – is you can turn the vehicle, for short periods of time, from four-stroke operation into two-stroke operation. That essentially doubles the power output. It gives you, when you need it, a burst of power. In principle, you can do it, for a short time period that's limited by heat and lubrication factors. When we get actuators on the exhaust valves of our test engines, we'll be trying it. "Two-stroke is one of those things that kind of is, was and always has been the future of internal combustion engines. There's renewed interest in two-strokes for a number of applications and we might be able to do something interesting there, just for very short periods, so you can get over this problem with small engines in big cars. "Going to the opposite end of the spectrum, you could do something called 12-stroking," Gostick continues. "So if you're on the motorway and you're cruising along, you can put it in 12-stroke mode, meaning that every cylinder only fires every third stroke. But it does it over the whole engine, like a roaming cylinder deactivation if you like. "A lot of cylinder deactivation just knocks off one or two cylinders, and because it's mechanical, it always knocks the same ones off, and when you re-engage them, you get hydrocarbon spikes because there's engine oil building up in the cylinders while they're not firing. If you do 12-stroking, you keep all the cylinders warm and you stop this build-up of lubricant, so you get the benefit without the penalty when you re-engage four stroke again. "Once you have this degree of control, you can start to play all sorts of tricks. Once you've got the exhaust valves hooked up, you can also port the exhaust, so you can do quick catalyst warmup, you can play tricks with turbochargers, you can do all sorts of things." Where Camcon's digital valve system is at commercially While Camcon has its own test engines and demonstration car up and running, this technology won't reveal the extent of its benefits until auto manufacturers start running with it and fully integrate it into their systems. The company has spent significant time working with Jaguar Land Rover, publishing a paper together at the prestigious Aachen engine conference in Germany last year. And while that collaboration continues, Gostick says the company sees its biggest opportunities in Asia. "We're focusing on the far East: Japan, Korea, China, purely because from an industry perspective we feel those are the areas that will be most receptive to what we're trying to do at the moment," he says. "It's a combination of the political environment, their attitudes to innovation and risk, and how mature they are in terms of thought process about future powertrains. In Europe at the moment, because of what the Commission is doing, all the car companies are running around saying 'batteries good, batteries good,' and a lot of the Asian companies have been through it in a more thoughtful way, and come up with a portfolio approach where you've got battery vehicles, you've got hybrid vehicles, and for other applications there's pure ICE vehicles. I think they're further along in their thought process about what the future powertrain looks like." The company has just introduced a version of the IVA tech that runs on the kinds of single-cylinder development engines that OEMs and tier one automotive suppliers use to test and develop their motors, to make it as easy as possible for car companies to experiment with the technology. Camcon believes that the digital valve train can be a diesel-killer for passenger cars, offering diesel-level efficiency and fuel economy with none of the particulate and NOx emissions that have seen diesels fall spectacularly out of favor in Europe in recent months. "In terms of cost, we can't go into specifics yet, but it's certainly less than the cost of doing diesel rather than petrol," says Gostick. "Diesel sales in Europe in the last quarter are down by 17 percent or something. It used to be 50 percent or more of total car sales, now it's down in the 30s thanks to Dieselgate and other factors. One of the consequences from that is that CO2 emissions in Europe are now going up again, because people are turning back toward gasoline engined cars that put out more CO2 than the diesel engines do. "That's why a system that can reduce emissions in petrol cars is a great thing to have right now. Ours is not a cheap system, but in the context of diesel, it's not an expensive one either." On a less planet-friendly note, we'd like to see what happens when this technology gets into the hands of hardcore performance tuner types and race teams. This sounds like an opportunity for petrolheads to do some very interesting things with motors. Source: Camcon Automotive Update (Aug 13, 2018): As some commenters have noted, this system bears some similarities to the FreeValve system from Koenigsegg, as demonstrated in the Qamfree motor from Qoros – but we'd highlight that the FreeValve's electro-hydraulic-pneumatic actuation system uses valve springs instead of a mechanical system to close its valves. Thus, it's vulnerable to high-rpm valve float and doesn't offer quite the desmodromic precision the Camcon system does. However, it's fair to call the difference academic when it comes to roadgoing cars, whose motors rarely rev high enough to make that a problem anyway.   22. Reviews of the new Toyota GR Supra have barely been out but someone has already swapped the new Supra’s BMW engine for the legendary 2JZ engine found in the MK4 Supra. It was only a matter of time and no, there is no prize for guessing which country did it first. If you haven't guessed it, its Japan's Daigo Saito. A professional drifter known for his spectacular drift cars, Saito has since built a crazy Lamborghini Murcielago and a Ferrari 599 GTB for his drifting pleasure. Details are scarce for the moment but the photos he uploaded on social media allows us to see that he added an additional rear-mounted radiator for extra cooling capacity. Of course, it is fully stripped out for maximum weight savings and it looks like it will be getting some really large fenders to cover those wide tyres. Interestingly, Saito mentioned that the new Supra is a good base for a drift car as it has a short wheelbase and compact body, allowing it be easy to control during drifts. He also reckoned it would be easier and cheaper to run too. Said to produce around 800bhp, the 2JZ-GTE equipped A90 GR Supra took just 42 days to develop and build and is set to make its first public appearance on 23rd March in Tokyo at the D1 Grand Prix All-Star Shoot Out.

  24. Hi bros, My current stock set up comprises a locally fitted WinCE headunit and stock component speakers at all 4 doors - the sound quality is really sub-par and I'm looking to upgrade. With a budget of around $1k, would you guys advise to change to a better HU like Z7250BT/Halo9, etc. (my car doesn't have the usual DIN slots) or change the front set of speakers and add an under-seat sub-woofer? Thanks in advance!
