  1. oh my god... hope passengers will be safe...
  2. Hi people what do your think of the impact on Cat A?
  3. no Huawei, no problem ... UK’s first 5G network taster goes live in six cities tomorrow The UK’s first 5G consumer mobile network is launching tomorrow in six cities. Mobile network operator EE will switch on the next-gen cellular connectivity in select locations in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester — promising “increased speeds, reliability and connectivity”. Though of course consumers will also need to have a 5G handset and 5G price plan, as well as being in the right location, to see any of the touted benefits. EE says it expects customers to experience an increase in speeds of around 100-150Mbps when using the 5G network — “even in the busiest areas” where network coverage extends. “Some customers will break the one gigabit-per-second milestone on their 5G smartphones,” it adds. Ten other UK cities are set to get a taste of EE’s 5G later by the end of this year, also in select, busier parts — namely Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol — with more cities planned to come on stream in 2020. While rival mobile operator Vodafone has said it will began its own rollout of a 5G network in July. Among the advantages for 5G that EE is pushing on its website to try to persuade users to upgrade are better connections in busy places (such as festivals or stadiums); faster download speeds to support movie downloads and higher quality video streaming; and a gamer-friendly lack of lag — which it bills as “almost instant Internet connection”. Whether those additions will convince masses of mobile users to shell out for an EE 5G device plan — which start at £53 per month — remains to be seen. Earlier this month the network operator, which is owned by BT, launched its first 5G Sim-only handset plans, and began ranging 5G handsets — from the likes of Samsung, LG, OnePlus and Oppo. Though not from Huawei. Last week it told the BBC it would pause on offering any 5G smartphones made by Chinese device maker Huawei — saying it wanted to “make sure we can carry out the right level of testing and quality assurance” for its customers. Huawei remains subject to a US executive order intended to dissuade US companies from doing business with it on national security grounds. And Google has been reported to have taken a decision to withdrawn some Android-related services from Huawei — raising question-marks about the future quality of its smartphones. (The Chinese company’s involvement in building out core UK 5G networks is also subject to restriction, with the government reportedly intending to impose limits.) EE says the 5G network it’s launching tomorrow is an additional layer on top of its existing 4G network — dubbing it “phase 1”. So this switch on is really a toe in the water. Or, well, a marketing opportunity to claim a 5G first. It describes it as a “non-standalone” deployment, saying it’s combining 4G and 5G to “give customers the fastest, most reliable mobile broadband experience they’ve ever had” — saying it’s planning to upgrade more than 100 cell sites to 5G per month, as it builds out 5G coverage. It will also expand its 4G coverage into rural areas and add more capacity to 4G sites — as 4G will remain the fall-back option for years to come (if not indefinitely). Phase 2 of EE’s 5G rollout, from 2022, will introduce the “full next generation 5G core network, enhanced device chipset capabilities, and increased availability of 5G-ready spectrum”. “Higher bandwidth and lower latency, coupled with expansive and growing 5G coverage, will enable a more responsive network, enabling truly immersive mobile augmented reality, real-time health monitoring, and mobile cloud gaming,” EE adds. A third phase of the 5G rollout, from 2023, is slated to bring Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications, Network Slicing and multi-gigabit-per-second speeds. “This phase of 5G will enable critical applications like real-time traffic management of fleets of autonomous vehicles, massive sensor networks with millions of devices measuring air quality across the entire country, and the ‘tactile internet’, where a sense of touch can be added to remote real-time interactions,” EE suggests. As we’ve said before, there’s little call for consumers to rush to upgrade to a 5G handset, with network coverage the exception not the rule, even as building out the touted benefits of so-called ‘intelligent connectivity’ will be a work of years.
  4. Was quite surprise to chance upon this ride when reading on some car news last night. Did not notice its availability over here before that at all. Really low key as it was never publicized in any way at all, as should have. http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_overview.php?CarCode=12237 http://i.i-sgcm.com/new_cars/cars/12237/brochures/brochure_20180124082626.pdf http://www.carbuyer.com.sg/index.php/news/1456-sg-motorshow-2018-this-chinese-mpv-costs All along I had noticed that Maxus in Malaysia has a MPV line under G10 which was not brought over here when C&C clinched the dealership. I had always thought the ride looks good as it has similar shape and finishing as Starex which is also not really available here as quite ex at S$170k. Anyway, people up north are quite fortunate as they have options that are equivalent to Alphard/Vellfire at substantially lower costs. So I am quite happy to read that since Jan/2018, the Maxus G10 SE is available over here under 2 trims at $140k and $150k. I do not know the exact difference between the 2 trims except for the electric tailgate (with leg motion) and the 18" wheels and sun roofs, but standard features such as TPMS, 360 camera, and adaptive cruise control are quite useful. And the ride comes with 6-speed gear mated to a 2L turbocharged engine that provides a respectable century sprint of 10.2 seconds which I read somewhere. The ride is long at 5.1m but not very tall at 1.928m, and very wide at close to 2m. Finishing wise, I would think better not to expect too much as it is definitely in Starex category. It should be more of a workhorse, like Biante, with plastic parts all over. Of course reliability is not proven at this moment as it is very new. But I do not foresee any issues as it is carried by C&C. Anyway it is not really possible to get a full-size MPV under AD right now other than Alphard/Vellfire/Elgrand, except for Saangyong Stavic which seems no longer available in sgcarmart now. If willing to go PI, the triplets and Stpwagon are potential candidates, but then again they are really a size smaller. Biante also seems to be obsoleted for good now. But I do not foresee this ride to sell well, as not many families would need such a big ride to begin with. But definitely happy to more options in this climate especially with the new VES resulted in a lot of models being pulled from the market. Really good luck to the C&C people.

  6. As the question implies, does anyone know if by going through an in-house loan (dealer or someone else), would HDB be aware of it when you're declaring income looking to buy a HDB/EC? Thanks :)
  7. Saw this while reading 'My Paper' today. Not sure whether it had been posted here already. I think I spotted another mistake in one of the sentence relating to it.

SHANGHAI—The former head of China’s biggest oil company went on trial Monday, marking the most senior-level prosecution of a Communist Party official since the country’s anticorruption drive began two years ago. Jiang Jiemin, former chairman of China National Petroleum Corp. who briefly ran the government agency that manages state-owned assets, appeared Monday morning in the Intermediate People’s Court in the central city of Hanjiang, according to information published online by the court. The court said Mr. Jiang faces charges related to taking bribes, holding a large amount of property that came from unidentified sources and abusing power while serving as an executive of a state-run company. The court didn’t identify the company or provide further details. In its brief morning release, the court said Mr. Jiang entered the courtroom with a lawyer who wasn’t immediately identified. Mr. Jiang hasn’t commented publicly or through a lawyer since he was detained 19 months ago. The party’s announcement in September 2013 that Mr. Jiang was suspected of severe disciplinary violations—a catchphrase for corruption—marked the downfall of a powerful party official. Mr. Jiang was later ejected from the party and formally charged with criminal acts. His court appearance Monday was his first during this period. The case is important in part for Mr. Jiang’s ties to a more senior party official who has also been ensnared in the anticorruption effort, former Politburo Standing Committee member Zhou Yongkang. Mr. Zhou, who in recent weeks was charged with corruption, had served as the oil company’s chairman, and he and Mr. Jiang worked together at the company. Mr. Zhou is expected to go on trial in the coming months. Though charges against Mr. Jiang had previously been announced, the date of his trial had not. The court said the trial is being attended by 76 people in total, including a number of politicians representing the national and regional legislatures and a government advisory body plus media and ordinary citizens. The court didn’t say how long the trial might last. Not Jiang Zhe Min
  9. I guess it's a matter of time. How much higher do you think it will go? I do not recall it being higher than 3% though but I am referring to AD rates.
  10. Stomper Max P shared this photo of a Rolls Royce that had caught fire at Loyang Avenue this afternoon (April 13). Several other vehicles have caught fire recently, with the latest incident involving a white hatchback car that near Yishun Stadium on April 10. Stomper Max wrote in an email to Stomp: "Rolls Royce on fire at Loyang Avenue exit from PIE. Took this just now at 1.35pm. "We were passing by, not sure if anybody was injured. "At the time when we passed by, the Rhino firefighters just arrived. "Half of the backside of the car was burned and disintegrated already." Is that an old Rolls Royce? How come the rear caught fire first? Fuel leak?

Investigations are ongoing to recover the rest of the money, the police said.
  12. Our very own "superhero" is going to jail. CNA reporter very sarcastic!! With a name like Batman, one would have thought the 23-year-old man would aspire to do good. But on Monday, the man -- who is actually named Batman Suparman -- was jailed for multiple theft and housebreaking offences. But on Monday, the man -- who is actually named Batman Suparman -- was jailed two years and nine months for multiple theft and housebreaking offences. Batman admitted to six counts of theft, two counts related to house trespass, one for housebreaking and one for drug consumption between June and August this year. The prosecution proceeded on three of the 10 charges. The court heard that Batman broke into SGF Billards & Marketing Singapore at Depot Road in the wee hours of the morning in August, and stole S$200. On other occasions, Batman stole the ATM cards of his elder brother Nurazman Suparman, and made withdrawals totalling S$850. During sentencing, the court heard that Batman is a first offender and a young one at that. For housebreaking, he could have been jailed between two and 14 years. The maximum punishment for theft is three years in jail and a fine. - CNA/nd

  15. Within a day of its set up, the PAP Confessions page on Facebook has already gone viral. The page has garnered close to 2,700 'Likes'. When contacted via the Facebook page, one of the page administrators responded and claimed that there were four people behind the page. The administrator said while they hope the page makes waves, they will filter out any defamatory postings. They say the point of the page is to provide an anonymous platform for PAP members and associates to voice out what they may otherwise be unable to. The page administrator also claimed that three of them are active members of the PAP, and have been party members for 12 to 35 years. One post on the page is the main reason it has gone viral. It is an open letter addressed to the Prime Minister and signed off by a "Tan Ah Kow". So far, the posting has been shared by almost 5,000 people, liked by more than 6,000 and received close to 600 comments. The writer claims to be a grassroots leader. Response to the letter has been mixed, with some supporters, some skeptics and some who think that the Confessions page phenomenon has gone a little too far. When asked what they had to say to those doubting the credibility of the postings, the page administrator said: "It would take a leap of faith and judgement should be passed on the content rather than the person posting it." http://www.tnp.sg/trending/content/pap-con...page-goes-viral Here is the letter from "Tan Ah Kow" taken from the facebook of PAP Confessions. A lengthy but well written article. Letter from a Grassroots Leader to PM Dear Prime Minister, I am one of your grassroots leader. I've voluntereed and served in one of your constituency for the last 20 years. I've had these thoughts percolating in my mind for many months. With what I observed in the last 2 weeks, starting with the Punggol BE then the White Paper, I decided to take the risk and go ahead and send this letter to you. I hope you do not take any of these the wrong way. After the GE2011 elections, the PAP was dealt a big blow with the unprecedented loss of a GRC. You did a post-mortem with us, and with your MPs. One of the message we tried to send you then was: You (meaning the PAP leadership) just didn't listen to us. We told you there were many problems on the ground, you did not listen. After the GE, you said PAP will change. The next challenge came in Hougang BE. You picked a great PAP candidate and for a while, we thought he could pull off a win. But against the advice of the candidate and the PAP grassroots, you deployed your big guns (KBW, TCH etc) and hijacked the message on the ground. You did not listen. The Punggol BE decisive loss was unexpected. The PAP grassroots told you to send one of us, a grassroots type person, to the fight. You chose to parachute in an unknown, someone who just joined the party weeks ago. He commited gaffe after gaffe. You did not listen. And right after the Punggol BE, you unveiled the White Paper. I know that those close to you, including the mainstream media, are praising you for daring to take on the problems of the future, of not sweeping things aside. But let me tell you this : I think you, and your top leadership, screwed up big time. I am sorry I have to use this language. You see, I'm a business leader too. I know what its like to be surrounded by people reporting to you, who are naturally disposed to tell you what you want to hear. Or are all molded in the same way. I am outside your
  16. STOMPer must have been caught by the RSM and "politely" invited to go trim his hair. Still so on nowadays? Me think unless his sideburns machiam those of Elvis 10m-long type should be ok right? Anyway ever since Kitaro was refused entry at Changi many moons back because of his long mane, I thought they will loosen up a bit but realistically not for uniformed groups... Just funny when during ICT you see many blokes coming in with their dyed or long hair and naively or seriously thinking they can get away with it Then one by one during in-pro kena pick up by RSM to go get their wonderful hair "enhanced" to SAF standards [laugh] From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ns_recruit.html Posted on 20 Jun 2012 Guy goes for reservist but gets his sideburns shaved off like NS recruit STOMPer jojo joget went for two days of reservist training but his sideburns were trimmed short, like that of a National Service recruit's. Said the STOMPer: "I'm a reservist. I've already ORDed (reached operational ready date). "The barber cut my sideburns like a NSman recruit's. "We are reservists but they made us like NSmen. "Just for two days of reservist."
  17. Illegal parking on double-yellow line still can argue wan meh? And mata also kena called in? From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...eign_woman.html Posted on 28 May 2012 Foreign woman goes berserk after she's fined for illegal parking STOMPer Supernovi says this foreign woman kicked up a big fuss after being issued a fine for parking illegally along a double yellow line at Bukit Timah. The police eventually had to be called in to resolve the matter. Says the STOMPer: "My friends and I were at Bukit Timah Plaza and we came upon a Chinese National woman getting booked for a parking offence along a double yellow line. "Apparently, she insisted that the enforcement officer allow her a grace period but when she came back, she received a ticket. "Question: Which enforcement officer will allow anyone any grace period for parking along a double yellow line? "Clearly she was in the wrong and she created such a big fuss that her own kid was crying. Afterwards, when the traffic enforcement officers were about to leave the scene on their bike, the kid allegedly blocked their way and caused them to nearly fall. "The officers had no choice but to disembark and call the police. "The police came later and she kept on complaining that she was still right and we were like 50 metres away and we still could hear the commotion. "After a good 20 minutes, they all left the scene. "The woman should have known better, why create such a big fuss when you are in the wrong in the first place? Please adhere to the laws of Singapore, even though it may be just a parking summon. "Irony of the story, one of the enforcement officers is also a Chinese National."

  19. This morning i disconnected the cable connecting to the box holding air-filter. Forgetting to connect it back, i drove to office with the MIL still lighted. After browsing and finding the cable, i disconnected it back but the light still stays on. Any advice if this is normal or i still could have underlying problems? My ride is Honda Fit about 2+ years old and 40k servicing is about to be due. Engine oil is rather dark but i don't read this causing the malfunction indicator to go on.
  20. In the event of my K.O., to whom will my car be passes to if I do not have a Will? And if there's still outstanding loan?
