  2. Read from other sources the mass execution will be on 15 April which is his grandpa's birthday!! http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_04_02/NKorea-Kim-Jong-un-set-to-execute-200-high-ranking-officials-0412/ NKorea: Kim Jong-un set to execute 200 high-ranking officials 200 high-ranking officials loyal to Kim Jong-un's executed uncle, Jang Sung-taek, Chairman of the State Committee of Defense, will be sentenced to death, South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports. "The Ministry of State Security has conducted an operation aimed at identifying Jang Sung-taek’s supporters after his execution last December and has identified 200 main supporters and 1,000 followers," the newspaper writes. It notes that about 1,000 members of their families will be sent to concentration camps without trial on charges of complicity. "Among those who will be sentenced to death there are 200 officials from the Labor Party, government and army, which received orders directly from Jang Sung-taek. Executions will be held at the shooting-ground of the Kang Kon Military Academy before the eyes of senior officials of the party, government and army," writes the newspaper. Seven more people executed in North Korea Seven more people were executed along with the North Korean leader’s uncle Jang Song-thaek on 12 December, the South Korean newspaper The JoongAng Ilbo reports. The North Korean Central News Agency reported on 13 December that Jang Song-thaek, who was the head of the regency council for young Kim Jong-un and was considered second in command in North Korea, was legally killed for an attempt at overthrow of power, RIA Novosti reminds. According to the newspaper’s source, two high-ranking party officials, two members of the government, two military commanders and one plant manager were killed on the same day with Jang Song-thaek. The newspaper reports that those people held positions equal or more than deputy minister or department manager. The execution was carried out in the building of the National Defence Commission in the presence of key party leaders. According to the newspaper’s source, in spite of the fact that photos showing Jang Song-thaek’s arrest at a party meeting were published on 9 December, he was actually confined to his house since the middle of November.

  6. https://asia.nikkei.com/Economy/China-s-Greater-Bay-threatens-Singapore-s-finance-and-tech-status China's 'Greater Bay' threatens Singapore's finance and tech status Analysts see huge Hong Kong-Macao project siphoning business away from city-state JUSTINA LEE, Nikkei staff writer March 04, 2019 06:35 JST To stay competitive and become a "smart" city, Singapore has been investing in emerging digital technologies across various industries SINGAPORE -- China's ambitious Greater Bay Area project encompassing Hong Kong, Macao and nine cities in Guangdong could threaten Singapore's standing as a hub for finance and technology. Earlier this month, Chinese authorities unveiled their plans for the vast area, which boasts a population of 71 million and an estimated gross domestic product of $1.64 trillion. Although a concrete road map for developing the Greater Bay Area has yet to be made, the unveiling was a crucial step forward in Beijing's efforts to quell rising protectionism around the world and spark a slowing economy at home. According to economists, the project could eventually overshadow Singapore. Lawrence Loh, director of the Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organisations at NUS Business School, noted that the huge project "will definitely" have an impact on Singapore. "The geoeconomics of the new Chinese development will be formidable in its scale and scope, [creating] synergies across many industries and markets," he said. Loh added that the Greater Bay Area is also "a much bigger region," with 12 times Singapore's population and almost five times its GDP. "The main challenge for Singapore will be specifically in the finance sector and -- more broadly -- in its location as a business hub," Loh noted. Tommy Xie, head of Greater China Research at OCBC Bank, said that Hong Kong will be the first to benefit from the project. Strengthening Hong Kong's role as a global financial center and magnet for investment by China "may pose some immediate challenges to Singapore," he said. Still, rather than being put off, some Singapore companies see potential in the huge area. Lucas Loh, president of China & Investment Management at Capitaland Group, said the core growth engines, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, in the Greater Bay Area "are also part of [the company's] core city clusters in China." Capitaland has been ramping up its presence in Guangzhou over the past year, acquiring two residential sites in Zengcheng District and a mixed-use site in Guangzhou Science City, which Loh says is "a key component of China's plans to turn the Greater Bay Area from a strong manufacturing base into a science and technology hub." Shenzhen will form an important part of China's Greater Bay Area. © AP However, not all analysts think the project will damage Singapore. "Hong Kong and Singapore are global cities which tap worldwide talent pools and financial markets, so the Greater Bay Area does not really represent a marked shift in the competitive dynamic between the two," said Duncan Innes-Ker of The Economist. Innes-Ker thinks the city-state can mitigate some effects of the project by reducing barriers that prevent Singapore-based companies from operating in Southeast Asia. "ASEAN's economies are expected to expand rapidly," he said. "This should provide many opportunities for financial and professional service providers based in Singapore" To boost competitiveness, Singapore has been increasing efforts to transform itself into a "smart" nation by investing in emerging digital technologies across various industries. In fintech alone, investments in 2018 more than doubled to $365 million from a year ago, according to a recent report by Accenture. Singapore is also working on fifth-generation, or 5G, technologies. In January, Singapore Telecommunications, Ericsson and Singapore Polytechnic launched the nation's first 5G training and testing center. The partners will use the facility to develop applications for transportation, logistics, health care, manufacturing and other industries.

  13. Malaysians are likely going to protest again. Just in time for his by-election. I thought Malaysia Judicial system very independent one? LOL. You think the Malaysians will protest near Merlion again? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26479642 Malaysia: Anwar Ibrahim sodomy acquittal overturned A Malaysian court has overturned the acquittal of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on sodomy charges, upholding a government appeal. Mr Anwar led the opposition to its strongest ever performance in the May 2013 general elections. While homosexual acts are illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia, very few people are ever prosecuted. Mr Anwar has always maintained the charges were part of a political smear campaign. The court decision may affect Mr Anwar's plans to compete in a key by-election in the state of Selangor this month. His lawyers are expected to appeal the court ruling, Reuters news agency reported. 'Selective persecution' In 2008, Mr Anwar was accused of having sex with a male aide. A High Court cleared him of the charges in 2012, citing a lack of evidence. The government later appealed against his acquittal. Ahead of the court decision, rights group Human Rights Watch called the government appeal a "travesty of justice". The group said it was a sign of Prime Minister Najib Razak's "selective persecution of his political opponents". Correspondents say Mr Anwar is seen as the key challenger to the ruling party, which has been in power since Malaysia's independence in 1957. The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition won 133 of the 222 seats in parliament in the 2013 elections - although it won the elections, it was the coalition's worst ever result. Thousands of Malaysian opposition supporters rallied against the result, alleging that the polls were fraudulent. Mr Anwar was previously a member of the Barisan Nasional coalition, but fell out with top leaders and was sacked in 1998. He was then charged with sodomy and corruption, and given a six-year jail term for abuse of power, which sparked huge street protests. In 2000 he was also found guilty of sodomy with his wife's driver and jailed for a further nine years. In late 2004 Malaysia's Supreme Court overturned the sodomy conviction, freeing him from jail. He then emerged as a leader in the opposition movement, leading it to increasingly strong performances in both the 2008 and 2013 elections.

  19. http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews...122-102614.html BEIJING, Nov 22 (Reuters) - A panda at a zoo in southern China attacked a student who snuck into its pen hoping for a cuddle with the endangered bear, state media said on Saturday. The 20-year-old male student surnamed Liu jumped over the fence at the zoo in the tourist city of Guilin, ignoring warning signs not to, Xinhua news agency said. "The panda, named Yangyang, was wide awake. Apparently scared by the intruder, he bit at Liu's arms and legs," it quoted an unnamed worker as saying after zoo keepers managed to calm the bear and rescue Liu, the report said. "Yangyang was so cute and I just wanted to cuddle him," Liu was quoted as saying from his hospital bed. "I didn't expect he would attack." Scientists believe fewer than 2,000 giant pandas live in the wild in China

  21. http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/defence-ministry-considering-more-ways-recognise-nsmen-minister-ng Response by AWARE: https://www.facebook.com/awaresg/posts/769391113073330?stream_ref=10 Time is the one commodity that cannot be taken back. Not by the richest man, nor by the most powerful man. Almost every Singaporean man has served National Service, and that 2 to 2.5 years inside there, while a somewhat positive experience, does take away 2 to 2.5 precious years of a man's youth. I'm not denying that NS is a necessity, born of circumstances, both of our history and of our geographical location. Not being nationalistic or anything, but NS does protect us as a nation. However, all AWARE has done is KPKB when they perceive that more benefits are going to those who protect the nation. Haven't they learnt from history? Yeah, I agree that everyone should have access to housing, education and healthcare, but how does giving NSMen / Servicemen more benefits restrict the the access of non-NSMen / Servicemen? I've always been of the opinion that those who contribute more should receive more than just the basic. Besides, if women married a NSMen / Servicemen, they would have, due to that marriage, the same access to housing. Education and healthcare can be paid for by the extra two years of salary saved due to not serving NS. TL;DR: NS is a necessity. Recognizing the service with such benefits are a good thing. It's not taking away anything from others, merely giving more to those who gave the most important thing in their life.
