  4. Spotted this strange motorbike on the road, with a strange helmet. Getting closer, I realised that his helmet contained a vulgar word. I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry. Strange chap. Is he just trying to gain some attention?
  5. Happen to came across this video on fb, this ah neh also very daring. I suspect he just came back from phuket. Haha. . . https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=697580836928403&set=vb.100000294792862&type=2&theater
  6. A comprehensive navigation system has become a standard for most, if not all, of today's cars. However, the same can't be said of motorcycles, at least not yet. With that being said, a motorcyclist will have to go through all the difficulties in reading a paper map if he wants to get the right direction to where he's heading. But now, things are about to change, thanks to a Russian company. This company is planning to come up with a solution known as the LiveMap. Featuring an earphone, a microphone, a light sensor, and - the best part - a micro display, this navigation system will project directions in the form of a heads-up display, just like what we can find featured in today's fighter jets. How cool does that sound? Unlike Google Glass - which projects images on the upper right hand side, the LiveMap will project directions right on the centre of the visor of the helmet the motorcyclist is wearing. And, thanks to the light sensor, the directions on the visor will remain transparent regardless of whether it is in the day or night. I would say that this is absolutely important as it ensures safety. A digital compass and an integrated gyroscope are also in place to make sure that the motorcyclist gets the correct orientation of the projection displayed on his visor, even if he's leaning the bike or tilting his head. Wow, this is yet another cool feature to anticipate, isn't it? But then, there's another problem, what about the power supply the helmet is going to need? Well, counting on a couple of lithium-ion batteries, the Russian company behind the solution claims that the helmet is likely to last a day. However, a USB charge plug will also come in handy should the motorcyclist require extra juice. How does this augmented-reality helmet sound? Well, if you're interested, you may want to help make it become a reality as the company is currently trying to raise US$150,000 (S$191,235) via Indiegogo. That amount is required to build a prototype that should work as expected. Then, if everything goes well, one of this LiveMap helmets may demand around US$2,000 (S$2,550) from any motorcyclist interested in it. Of course, there're always chances that prices may go down, even if we may have to wait for another decade.
  7. If you take part in motorsport driving, or ride a motorcycle (especially), I would recommend that you do not take your helmet for granted, under any circumstances. This is because you may regret it afterwards. You see, you never know when the unexpected may take place. If you aren't really buying what I am trying to say here, I suggest that you take a look at the picture involving the helmet previously worn by a Spanish F1 test driver, Maria de Villota. If you aren't quite aware or can't recall, Maria de Villota came across a horrifying incident while testing a Marussia Formula 1 racecar nearly a year ago. As for the cause of the incident, it has yet to be clarified. All that we know is that she crashed the F1 car she was piloting at that time due to some unexplained acceleration. According to eyewitnesses, though, the car had been misfiring. Had it been true, I wonder why the engineers weren't really concerned about it. Anyway, it was really a misfortune as Maria de Villota was actually trying to come back to the paddock and she was piloting the Marussia F1 car at a low speed, too. At that point of time, as a matter of fact, she had completed a straight line aero test. Due to the unexpected acceleration, the Marussia F1 car rear ended one of Villota's team trucks. Ironically, the truck was actually the one which brought the Marussia F1 car onto the track in the first place. Unfortunately, the liftgate of the truck was partially lowered at that moment and Villota's head happened to strike it. Well, I bet you can guess what happened next. After the incident, Villota went into a coma lasting four days. Fortunately, the doctors managed to save her life but, well, the same couldn't be said of her right eye. Yes, the horrifying and unfortunate crash cost Maria de Villota one of her priceless eyes. No longer an F1 test driver, Maria de Villota is now working as a road safety advocate in the country where she was born. Working as a road safety advocate, she never gets tired of showing her horribly damaged helmet to her audiences, hoping that more people - especially the more aggressive young drivers - will be more careful and always put on their helmets whenever necessary, for their own sake. For your information, I am confused whether she's stubborn or that she's persistent and just have a strong will. You know, after the horror she encountered, she has revealed that she still wants to get back into the F1 racing world, making an eventual comeback when the time comes.

  9. Wan Bao reported a case of suspected case of car park warden angrily taking off his uniform & helmet at Kranji industrial area to go 1-on-1 with a disgrunted lorry driver who was being booked. Fortunately the lorry driver had left already but the warden's actions caused a lot of unhappiness amongst witnesses who accused him of spoiling image and being "gangster-like". Some fellas even took down footages of the confrontation... The above reported incident reminded me of an earlier case of unhappy drivers filming & arguing with another warden who was more patient at Serangoon Gardens. They even put up on YouTube the footage later... http://news.omy.sg/News/Local%2BNews/Story...503-216317.html 开罚单起争执 稽查员脱衣要打架 开罚单开到当街脱下制服要向对方单挑独打,停车场稽查员被指行为嚣张而触犯众怒,并被围观公众讥为

  13. I just bought a helmet for my gf as I plan to bring her to the PG track soon. Basically, one just needs a helmet to comply with track regulations, so I believe most will look at cost only. Along Jln Wong Ah Fook (beside City Square) there is a motorcycle accessory shop (further down from city square) where I bought a helmet for RM30. Complies to Malaysian PSB (ok it's not PSB but their equivalent) standards, if it matters... Compared to the helmet i bought in SG, $18 which i thought was pretty cheap already However, I must say that the bought-in-malaysia helmet has less durable lining.. but just a heads up for those interested.
