  3. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/ent...1237312/1/.html Sylvester Stallone hints at Rambo's last stand Posted: 15 November 2012 0857 hrs US actor Sylvester Stallone arrives for the screening of "Bullet to the head" at the VIIth edition of the Rome film festival, November 14, 2012. (AFP/Tiziana Fabi) ROME: Action hero Rambo may make a return to the big screen for one last battle, Hollywood veteran Sylvester Stallone said Wednesday in Rome where his latest gun-toting buddy flick screened its world premiere. "The Rambo thing, that's why I don't retire. I just see a guy unable to go home. He needs war and I see him dying there," Stallone said about the Vietnam veteran he played in a series of four films from 1982 to 2008. "If my damn body holds up, it'll be really good. Otherwise it won't be Rambo fighting, it'll be Rambo fighting arthritis," the 66-year-old said. Stallone also said he hoped that, after Rambo and Rocky the boxer, he had created an icon for the new generation with his performance as a hired killer with a heart in Walter Hill's 1980s-style action film "Bullet to the Head". Under the tag-line "Revenge never gets old", the movie tells the tale of mercenary Jimmy Bobo (Stallone) who unwillingly links up with a straight-laced, technologically-savvy cop (Sung Kang) when their partners are murdered. "To be able to have played both Rambo and Rocky, one a dark character, the other optimistic, was very unusual. They were iconic. Jimmy is a combination of the both, maybe he can be such a character for this generation," Stallone said. Bobo, whose philosophical insights include "sometimes you have to abandon your principles and do what's right", takes his new ally on a shooting spree before a final showdown in which he must defeat the enemy in an axe fight. The film, which at its best appears to be an ironic take on the wooden dialogues and predictable suspense scenes from old action B-movies, saw director Hill awarded Rome film festival's first Maverick Director Prize. Stallone said he "wasn't sure the film was going to work... I borrowed from other films but also learnt from my past," he said, describing how he had once convinced a sceptical Woody Allen to take him for the part of a villain. "I was nobody. They needed a bad guy but he wouldn't even look at me. I was with another guy, we went off and smeared vaseline and dirt on our faces and came back and really scared him. It taught me to never give up," he said. The burly actor, who spends much of "Bullet" flexing his trademark biceps, took time out from the festival to visit underprivileged youths on Tuesday in the crime-ridden Rome suburb of Tor Bella Monaca. "Going there and seeing those young people in that neighbourhood was almost like I was reliving my past. I came from a very bad place to a good one. I told them: do not be afraid of failure. In the end you will make it," he said. Stallone said he had learnt how to be tough after making his first Rocky film, when the movie studio refused to pay him and treated him badly. "From that point on I tried to do films about overcoming obstacles. This is a business: somehow out of the chaos, wonderful creativity comes out. But you can only rely on yourself. This lesson saved me," he said. The actor, who is half Italian, made a plea to save Italy's famous Cinecitta' film studios which are in a perilous financial state. "In my business it's hard to find iconic institutes such as this one. I really hope the Italian government and all you who love film can make it survive because you can, and it will come back stronger," he said. -AFP/fl

  6. Not trying to be stereo type but 3 encounters in 2 weeks with female drivers. For some reason they seems to be very aggressive on the road. I met one today on river valley and another at the junction of queensway. They will happily cut into your lane w/o signalling and not even try to see if its safe to do so or not. When I am driving suddenly the just get closer and veer into my lane and I have to brake to avoid an accident..... Then an incident 2 days ago along Braddell. The traffic is bad there as cars from Toa Payoh will merge with cars on Braddell. The lady coming out from Toa Payoh squeeze her car beside me and I have to let her go in front or we would hit. I was like thinking whats there to gain by by squeezing just 1 car space? She is already behind me and will come out behind me but still have to squeeze in front like that?
  7. Ever wonder why the MIWs suddenly got so compassionate towards animals rights recently... especially cats... Well, there seems to be a research that ppl who get infected with Toxoplasma gondii a single cell parasite supposedly spread by cats tend to show ...long term personality changes...displaying a symptom called Neuroticism... Though the parasite seems relatively harmless ( except to infants)...neuroticism is a psychological trait that co-related well with the level toxoplama gondii infection found in thaty country.. Women who get infected tend to be more intelligent, affectionate, social and more likley to stick to rules.. Men who get infect tend to be less intelligent but more loyal, frugal and mild tempered... Ppl affected tend to have stronger focus on work, ambition and money... And strongly infected society tend to be more likley to avoid risk and embrace strict rules and regulation.... there you have it.... Since they cannot win well this time round and will show a worse result if they don't really totally change...they need a sinister agent to help them! Of course, this could all be a myth... as to what the parasite can do but noting their desperation after defeat...they seem to be willing to try anything!

  10. From last week started scouting for used car. I was on budget of 30K and looking for a vehicle with 5 to 6 years ride left. Have fixed some brands in mind, visited these marts and got some interesting experiences. One good thing noticed was, decent second hand cars are selling like hot cakes. i.e i have seen the Lancer(just listed on that day) and took one day to confirm, within that it was sold. Went down to another shop, just looking at a car(again lancer) and about to ask information about the car, suddenly, few guys jumped in and started negotiating and closed the deal in few mins. Ideally, all happened within 5 mins, they came just behind me, because of being too polite i lost a decent ride one. Overall, it seems that used car business is too good nowadays. Seen a car last week (nissan sunny) for 24K, since my wife didn't like it, now, it has again been posted for 33K. Moreover, some dealers ask for price higher than what they advertised. Since, i take the print out copy of the shortlisted ones, i caught hem red handed and suddenly they cook stories for price increase. Most of them asking for Admin fee!!. One gentleman (car dealer!!) advised me to buy a OPC car, i said, no i am looking for normal, he said, you can buy the coe, it will cost you just 30K+. I just smiled at him and walked away. Still looking for one, but in no hurry to buy a good one.
  11. It was a positive day today for the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, working, like the other ten F1 teams, at the third test session with the Formula 1 Championship in sight. After two days of bad weather today the conditions improved, apart from a couple of hours in the morning, when there were still some wet sectors on the track. Eventually the cars could be fitted with tyres for a dry track, with the tarmac temperature finally on acceptable levels. Fernando Alonso started his fourth day of testing with his new team just after 9am and stopped driving around 20 minutes before the official end of the training session. During the day he drove 132 laps and got a good impression of the car. I
  12. COE prices fell across the board at the latest tender on Wednesday. The premium for cars up to 1,600cc fell by more than $2,000 to close at $16,747, while COE for cars above 1,600cc softened by around $1,000 to settle at $18,389. Open COE, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for cars, dipped by $900 to $19,000. The premium for commercial vehicles finished at $16,989 - down from $18,110 two weeks ago. And the COE for motorbikes hit $902, from $931 previously. Observers said the latest results - with the first across-the-board dips since supply was cut last month - could be because of lower buying interest. Car buyers, used to the low prices seen in the first half of this year, are shying away from showrooms despite an all-round improvement in consumer sentiment.

  16. Hi, just an update to the bros and sis here. My ride hit 37000km this week and seems like it is smoother than before, the ride seems more silent, the suspensions seems to grace over every little bumps better, the steering seems less heavy, and the power seems better. - what happened? How did it get better? Is it really broken in after so long? Well all I know was after the 30K servicing and throttle body clean and new sparks the car drive seems better. I wonder how about the rest?

  19. For some unknown reason, an area of about 5cm(sq) of the paint appears tough after SRP, while the rest of the car is smooth. I suspect too much of the SRP removes it. Is there any way to restore it, so that I get the smooth feeling? Or do I have to go for a respray? What are the implications of leaving the area tough? Some other areas spotted appears a bit tough, but not that bad overall.
  20. Come across this at LTA's website: http://www.lta.gov.sg/corp_info/doc/MVP02-...0by%20make).pdf If I didn't get my facts wrong, CA took over the Skoda brand from JTA arnd 2002 & sales seems to be falling since. Y2000 - 101 Y2001 - 258 Y2002 - 84 Y2003 - 85 Y2004 - 61 Y2005 - 60 Y2006 - ? It seems that CA is not helping the brand at all (definitely not with the reported selling price of Octy II !). Any comments anyone ?

  22. Hi, Driving a Mazda 323 1.6 A Protege for about 7 mths. Have been driving the car wif HVS and grounding. Monitor the fuel consumption, varies from as low as 8.76 km/lite to as high as 11.78 km/lit (that time drove to Senai Airport). I am not sensitive to power so duuno whether got power increase but I am very keen to improve the fuel consumption. I heard somewhere that u can reset the ECU and let it re-learn, think will it help? Would appreciate if any kind bro out there who could provide some advice on maximising this two gadgets that I have in saving petrol. Thanx and "Gong Xi Fa Cai" :)
  23. I recently bought a second-hand late '00 Elantra. Here are my concerns, I hope some experience driver/tuner can help with these... 1. Loud engine noise (revving) when pulling from 0-60. My impression is that the engine is underpowered. 2. It also happen when I drove up to KL on the North-South highway and the car got very loud when cruising above 110km/h. Noise was even loud from the back seats. 3. Rear left suspension seems soft. A few times when travelling above 110km, the rear left tire kept scraping against the chassis (or sounded like scrapping sound from tyre touching against the body) 4. Car and steering vibrate strongly at speeds between 110-140km/h. To the point that even the back seat passenger compartment feels vibrating. I've changed the engine oil twice in past 3 weeks (thinking that maybe the engine oil could be a factor). But no effect. Are these normal? Can someone give me advise on how to keep engine noise and vibrations down? How about the suspension? Please help! I love my Elantra hatchback, it's spacious and very comfortable with lots of leg room. the problems above are nagging at me and I'm worried that the car may not be performing as economically as I want it to be. I sent it for servicing to 2 places (Autobacs and Shell)... but I never seem to get my problems addressed coz I get the feeling that they only wanted to go through the motion of the "changing oil" package. So I don't think I was getting an honest opinion. Please help... any suggestions/advise is very much appreciated.
