Hi,

Thks for replying. [:)]

Just did mine second ATF change yesterday, since i got my car.

Didn't use the ATF machine to change the oil, just normal oil change.

Will there be ill-effects not using the ATF machine?

Ok. Thks. [:)]

Bought 4 bots of Caltex ATF oil for $24.

Went to JB to change engine oil, brake oil, powersteering oil and ATF oil yesterday.

Can feel the car is smoother after servicing. [thumbsup]

Draining by gravitation flow will not 100% remove all the existing ATF. The remaining residue will contaminate the new ATF. Overtime it will effect the auto performance.

Deluxe ATF machine will actually suck ( using positive suction pump) the ATF out and

weigh them. The machine will then decide the amount to pump in the auto transmission.

The trend is life long ATF - no need to change them. BMW I believe is already using such type of auto transmissions.

Make it a habit to follow the hand book recommendations. Auto transmission clutch plate surfaces are coated with special proprietory materials and will perform to the max only when the you use recommended ATF. They are very sensitive to the type of AFT additives, dirts and water.

Some european cars now come with auto transmissions that are sealed for life and therefore need not have to change the ATF.

PS Do not allow workshop to change the ATF UNLESS they use ATF machine to drain and fill. Without ATF machine it can never be 100% drain and can never be 100% fill.

Hi Yeobh, if only go for ATF machine drain and fill...more costly...is it advisable to go for synthetic ATF rather than mineral ones as the drain interval would be longer?

Thanks.

Can anyone here advise on "Type F" vs "Dexron III" rated ATF?

What's the consequence if "Racing Type F" ATF was used in our auto trans?

Would it harm the auto trans? I understand that Type F does not have friction modifiers (no slipperiness additives) and is also thicker. Therefore, it allows faster locking up of the auto trans gears and therefore better efficiency? Wouldn't this better better?

Thanks.
