Did you guys knew about this? I read it from MkIIToledo of Delphi/Seatsg. Seems like it will be a long way to Gul Ave for viewing of Skoda cars in future, unless Intraco rent or buy a smaller showroom.

From BT online...

"THE single biggest asset in Intraco's liquidation of Intra-Motors - a 2,500 sq m showroom at Kampong Ubi - has been sold, nearly three years after the former Rover distributor closed shop.

Cycle & Carriage Fulco Motor Dealer, an agent of Cycle & Carriage Ltd, has paid the option to purchase the property vacant from the receivers. The current tenant, Skoda agent JTA Motors, is moving out by April. Neither C&C Fulco nor Cycle & Carriage would comment on the development, but a source said the deal was transacted at 'well below $5 million'. Intra-Motors claimed to have paid $10 million for the premises in 1996."

Are you planning to get a Skoda?

I am not concerned at all... let them close down and hopefully a new distributor come in and take over - save the anguish of current owners and prospective owners who wanted to buy but dare not buy.

Yes I am planning to get an Oct 1.8T (M). Frankly, I just want the car regardless who the agent is. My only concern is getting my $$$ stuck with JTA and no car. Ideally, I am planning to get a car in March. So if JTA is not ready, I will have to shop elsewhere and revert to Skoda later, provided the price is still right.

I know its nothing new but there was nothing official as well. Hanging a sign does not mean that they are sold, it simply means they are looking for a buyer. If no one buys them, they are staying ... now they are moving for sure! [:p]

I am indeed a determined person ... but not with S$100K [:p]

I am planning to book a car in March, so will just see how things turn out then. If JTA is still the same, I will probably have to give Skoda a miss this time round.

Hey March is just 3 weeks away. I dont see any thing is gonna change much esp when JTA is only going to move out only in April. Maybe you shld give them more time - to wind up their operations and for a new distributor to take over. [;)]

I dunno how long it will take for them to wind up their ops and for a new agent to take over. I have been waiting since Sept 01 and dun think I wanna wait any longer. Like to take advantage of the current low car prices.

One way is to get another car, then get the 1.8T 2nd hand a few yrs down the road.

Thinking of doing this for the moment since it is the most ideal solution. So I am checking out Focus and Toledo later today [:p]

Focus may be easy to sell off later ... but Toledo may be a little harder. But if its a good car, I wun mind being stuck with it for 10-years.

Pardon me. Here 's my 5 cents worth .... [;)]

A lot of people say they intend to keep the car for the 10 or 8 years left in a car's life but I see it very differently that keen as you might in keeping the car that long, our personal situation - career, luck in the stock market, family requirements etc which changes many times in the space of the 10 years dictates whether we can keep the car that long. [:(]

Hence, it is much more prudent to buy a car with a better resale despite the intention of keeping it throughout w/o selling as you can never tell what is your future. 10 years is a long time. You do not want to be caught in a situation where you want to sell 6 yrs later and have no interested buyers. [:/]

have fun.....

btw, I didn't go for the Toledo becoz over the phone, when I was trying to cajole (no, squeeze) the salesman for details of anything special about the car that would inspire me to make a trip down, all he could say was, "we are targetting BMW, everything BMW has, we also got". At least better than the response I got from Regent Motors regarding the Laser........

BTW, think carefully about holding the car for 10 years. Its not that easy when you are facing unemployment or drastic change in circumstances. Do your scenario planning very carefully.

Roger your thoughts ... the "situations" you mentioned have crossed my mind many times. But that's precisely why life is like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you'll find till you open it. Best example ... none of the victimes in Sept 11 incident knew they were going to die ... I am sure many of them had regrets, ie. if they had time to think of it.

Therefore, while I am aware anything may happen in the following 10-days let alone 10-years, I am not about to be pessimistic in everything I do. My view is still to enjoy life within my means, so that I will have no regrets when my time comes. I may not have been able to enjoy it to the fullest ... but at least I know what it felt like.

I guess this has to do very much with one's personality. You are perfectly right in your opinions and I respect it, but that's how I look at life presently ... its short ... just like those of cars in SG [:p]

Roger both yours and Triggerhappy's concern.. just to add my own 5 rupiah's worth, no one can guarantee you will stil be alive tomorrow, so we shld live our lifes to the fullest everyday.

No one can also confirm life after deaths (if not we would not have so many versions of that from all religions)... so we potentially will be non-existent as soon as tomorrow or next week.

If you are left with 2 choices - one which you like a lot but has no resale value (in my case FABIA) and one which you like not that much but has superior resale value (I was considering the Accent and City as well at that time).. I say follow your heart and not the pocket and get the one you are crazy about and pray nothing drastic like retrenchments or losing tons in the market will ever occur to you.

Good to have you in the forum with us... lets share your psychological burden of deciding which car to buy.

I don't think that JTA is about to go away just yet. Are you sure that they are in the process of winding up?

True that JTA may not be about to go away just yet ... but the question is how long are they gonna be around? What will happen to people whose downpayment they are holding to but cars are not delivered?

My thoughts are ... if JTA is in $$$ trouble, then all the delays about cars not being delivered on time could be due to the fact that they are not paying their principle, Skoda, on time. If this is really so, then JTA is just collecting money upfront so that they can pay their principle and then get the cars shipped out ... which may also explain why cars are not delivered by the agreed dateline. The fact is ... they may not have pre-sold enough units and collected the necessary $$$ to ship cars out for the previous batch of buyers. This kinda "robbing-Peter-to-pay-Paul" type of money rolling method is esp prevalent in Pte businesses with $$$ problems.

However, one thing is for sure ... their ad is back today.

Btw ADMIN, the name of this Folder is spelt wrong ... should volkswagEn not volkswagOn.
