is it a good practice to switch on/use the radio or cd while the engine is turned off? will it effect the batter life or anything like that. or even use the power windows while the engine is off. some ppl i notice that they never switch off their aircon n radio when they turn off their engines. so when they start the car, these items hv started already. any impacts? thx guys.....juz to share...rolleyes.gif

I think not critical for the aircon or audio unit to be turned off before starting engine. Most cars have circuitry to cut off power to the aircon and audio unit when the engine is started and resume power once engine is running. But older cars (80s ones) might not have this circuitry though.

If your ICE doesn't take too much juice, I think should be OK. "normal" radio and CD take very little power compare to what a battery stores. But if you have big boom boxes, amps, etc., maybe not a good idea. Aircon definitely no way.

I try to make a point to switch off everything - radio, lights, fan, aircon, before I start the engine and before I off it. With newer cars this may is not neccessary as they would have some surge protection circuit, but just for my peace of mind.

Since ur engine is off, ur alternator will not b supplying or rather recharging the batt so the batt will do the supplying of elec directly to the radio. Read from some where that it'll shorten the life span of the batt(assuming non-maintenance free type) if the batt is "over-drained".

My bro once drained his batt when he vacuum his car with the engine off, the car couldnt start aft that. Might be due to the age of the batt but its better to be safe than sorry. nod.gif

For me i'll switch off everything loh. Normally i start e engine, listen for any odd noise(from the engine) and let the car idle for a few seconds then turn on a/c and listen again. Let engine idle another few seconds and drive off. Hehe... my personal practice.

i think if u didnt off ur radio when u off ur engine.. when u on ur engine tat time.. might damage the amp or the speakers and the headunit...the sudden rush of power to the HU creating a "boom" sound.. tatz wat happen to mine if i dun off b4 i start engine... there will be a "Boom"

they say might spoilt battery or alternator if dun off aircon.. so best is to off everything b4 u cut off ur engine power

i think things like vacuum cleaner, wipers, etc which use motor, or demister/heating/headlights which consumes quite alot of electricity, will drain your battery over nite/or within an hour or so ....... smile.gifsmile.gif

so that was a good advice n discussion then. so it is a good practice to switch everthing off before turning off the engine. i always do that but sometimes some ppl give me a look like i'm a freak. anyways, i dun care, i'm a freak in my freaky car in a freaking world....thumbsup.gif

so let's say that i hv my engine turned off, is it good if i listen to the radio or cd while the engine is off?

Listening to the ICE with the engine off will drain your battery, especially if you have multiple amps and speakers/woofers.
