Ace_t Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 the only thing that's left ON for me is the radio. Anyway there's a relay to cut off the power to the radio when you crank the car. Unless you have lot's of ICE with a woofer pounding away, the HU draws very little current from the battery. I would usually let the car idle a few secs before turning on the aircon. This allows the car to get it's engine on stable-mode before adding an extra load.

S2P2 Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 (edited) rightfully, you should off everything. when you just start you engine, at the instance of turning you ignition, the car is drawing HUGE power from your battery to run the engine. If you have your aircon and ICE on, these 2 items are individually drawing big power from your battery as well. Try imagine 3 stuff drawing all power at the same time. Its not that you will have big problems, but you would be shortening the life span of the battery and contrary to popular believe, your alternator do not start charging one its is started. It only starts at a certain rpm and that is dependent on car. but should be the range of 1300 - 1500 rpm.....so basically with no charging, you are subjecting the battery to high stress with that may gadgets drawing power at the same time. Madarmour Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 I think cranking the engine itself use up most of the battery's power.
S2P2 Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 I think so too, but dun have the actual figures.....so if we both are right that it drains most of its power, imagine the ICE and the aircon turning on at the very same instance

Saaber Neutral Newbie February 18, 2004 Share February 18, 2004 is it a good practice to switch on/use the radio or cd while the engine is turned off? will it effect the batter life or anything like that. or even use the power windows while the engine is off. some ppl i notice that they never switch off their aircon n radio when they turn off their engines. so when they start the car, these items hv started already. any impacts? thx guys.....juz to share... yes, best is to off everything before switching off car
