today went for my servicing and they claim to solve the fuel guage issue for me. now 100 +++ km showing around 3/4 full, which i think still resonable. Hope it stays that way. But yout high rev thing I haven encounter yet (touch wood). why wait until 5k, visit them a few more time stress them a bit, then they start taking your problem seriously. but seem like this is goin to be a fleet wide problem. Its just how many people will bug them until the problem is rectified. I try to consistently pump 95 ron then see how. if I also get only 2 peaceful week like you did, I will go back to [smash][smash][smash] . Anyway, I work near SA ubi [laugh]

I think it just doesn't like 95 petrol, with 95 FC is also higher..... with 98, it has less problems... haiyah, wanna save a bit also cannot. But this I'll bring up to SA until they give me a satisfactory answer.

I forgot, is yours a manual?

Do you know what they did to "solve" your fuel guage problem? Also, did they change your RON switch to RON95? Did they inform you?

Do monitor and feedback to us your FC, especially when you're using 95 petrol.

I had a "special" record at Ubi,,every now and then I will send a email to the biggest guy at SA and also to a few guys at GM. Anyway I work and stay in the west, to and fro to Ubi is too taxing for me. Hence will use this Saturday to settle this issue.

Try changing ron level and see if there is any problem with ur gage. For me, the first trigger was when I changed from 98 after 3 or 4 tankful of 92.

dun know, think they just reprogram the ecu, somemore waste me quite a number of km, think they bring the car for a joyride, But today the same thing seem to be coming back again. start car only got 1/2 tank, then travel a bit go up, then come down again. Maybe you are right, it doesn;t like 95. but the price of 98 quite hefty, imagine 50 L, phew, almost $90. but if the car can yield back a 12km/l or more with a more responsive throttle and better for engine, I dun mind paying a the slight extra. ya, mines manual.

Monday is just plain 'rectification' of the fuel gauge problem. My sw is barely 1 week old and below 400km ... [bounce1] ..... reading this forum seems quite a good number of Optra having this defect. SA should have been more responsible [smash] to solve this defect before they continue to market these cars

I also have this crappy fuel guage problem...

After a full top-up, it falls to 1/2 full after just 70km of driving!!!

The guage goes up and down... what the %$#@! Mine is barely 9 days old!!! [mad][thumbsdown]

you need to keep cool. [sweatdrop] 9 days my mileage almost 1k already, thats why I go do servicing and repair together. Think this one is a assembly problem couple with the fuel we pump in combi. SA will be able to make improvement if lucky rectify the problem. must pray for the best [sweatdrop]

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum. I've been driving my optra auto for 4 months now also hv this fuel gauge pb. Went to ubi to get it fixed, they told me they are aware of this problem. It's because there is a deffect on the floating sensor (what they say). After changing, I pumped 1 tank and it was ok, then same problem came back so my next servicing they will hear it from me! [furious] .

I don't understand why changing from 98 to 95 could hv an effect on the gauge? I usually drive 470km until red light. Means my car is less than 10km/l, it's very high compare to other cars.

I also hv this rubber burnt smell coming from the engine after driving a while, do you guys experience this also?

The red light comes on and it flags 470km is not a good guage as there is a geniune defect. the important thing is how much fuel you need to pump in again until brim with the mileage already trvelled. If it only need another 40 odd litre of fuel pump in when the red light comes on, at least you know the FC is normal. Indication can be irriating, but no choice until they have some instruction from up there about how to go about to rectified the problem.

ahh, yea. but an fc on the 9 to 11 range is normal for a car of this weight and engine type. This kinda fc is like some 2+ litre japanese cars with more adv technology can achieve. No doubt its not entirely efficent for our rides, but well, at a much lower startup cost with good room and comfi, just can't have best of both world.

Your driving environment also play a part to the fc. how often or routine is traffic jam, idling waiting for girlfriend, driving in the day a lot, air con always need to blast high, your way back home lots of up slopes, how much expressway you move along (that doesn't mean fast as expressways can crawl at a 40km/hr to 60km/hr with constant need to accelerate and stops once in a while on peak hours.

yup, there are 2 main problems with their fuel gage

1) it will need a "learning period" if u switch to a different ron level.

during this learning period, the needle will just swing left and right giving false indication. U should use the mileage as a guide.

2) If u had been using the same ron level for a while and the needle does fluctuate, u should highlight to SA.

For me, case (1) applies to me.

To those with watever problems u r facing with ur ride, talk to Darren the servicing manager, I am sure he will help u out.

OT , btw yesterday saw 2 chevy @ SA , 1 optra, the other an optra 5 in SA for accident repair. Both are fairly new cars..one is SFT, the other SFS...

Yes I also experienced the same burning smell on the first few days. But a few writers in another forum told me not to worry as it will go off after a while. Well true enough, the intensity of the burning smell isn't as great as it was during the 1st 2 days.

Mine is 9 days old now... Keep our fingers crossed that it will go off completely... [;)]

So the crappy fuel guage is a problem... must demand that they do something abt it during my servicing... [furious]
