Skidpad takes into account overall balance, pertaining to max power laid down and a solid suspension. The weight distribution of the car, drivetrain and tyres matter too.

0.9 is nothing to shout at.

Rear drive Ferraris, Porsches and Vipers often get 1 or more G.

I like the result of the slalom. shows how much the Toyota designers have done.

Speed is nothing if there is no control.

Skidpad test is often done on a 150ft wide circle marked out with cones.

It is watered down to allow skidding to take place, and a "drift" expert will be at the wheel, trying to go as fast as possible within the circle.

Brakes slow the car. Tyres allow the adhesion to take place.

Together, they stop the car.

Larger brakes, and larger tyres definitely stop the car faster

slalom tests the car's ability to transfer the weight laterally, in a continuous fashion.

Not really cornering, but more of a chicane test.

AWD does not mean better slalom results.

Most cars do at least 60mph, and only the best can go to 70.

Anyway, the results are never conclusive.

The driver is always different from one test setup to another magazine's or tester's.

At one sitting, it is comparative, and most drivers tend to favour either FWD, RWD or AWD.

Not sure what a skidpad test looks like... but my guess would be that the Celica is lighter and has a lower CG than the STi, plus, there is no data on the tires being used, which would be one of the most impt factors in braking and lateral Gs.

Ultimately, its the tires that stop the car, not the brakes (referring to the 100-0 distance).

Also, slalom test is useful to test how a car is able to recover from cornering (again, low weight and low CG helps), but if you are talking about a race round a proper track, the ability for the AWD to power through a corner better than an FF becomes a more impt factor.

Like I said before, these are all stock cars tested (with stock tires and brakes, no mods in any aspect).... like I said the celica gets more in terms of braking power and contol over the WRX.... there is no denying the results.... the celica is a car that handles much better than the WRX.... and as persa kindly helped explain what the G force is about (it does alot to help traction btw with helps with braking and overally control of the car).... the amount of G force a car has usually helps determine the cars cornering ability.... but the WRX will probably still zoom by the celica because it still has more raw muscle (bigger engine).... I know one thing about manufactures is that they like to pad their stats abit sometimes.... Another thing I noticed is the Hp (in north america) is lower than the SS2? celica from japan (10 Hp lower).... I don't know how much better it makes the car though.... but I am sure not by much....

http://www.hotchkistuning.com/frames/toyot...ing_results.htm

look at that site.... it is one of a celica with 96 feet braking and 1+ G.... but it is modified.... in short you get what you pay for.... you can't really compare a porche with a toyota.... I think even with the spare cash you save buying a celica instead of a WRX, you can probably upgrade the performace to be better than that of a WRX on the track (but that can it be done in singapore? I doubt it [sweatdrop][sweatdrop] )....

and I agree with you.... I was so shocked at the comparative results of the two during the slalom test.... the engineering of the car is remarkable.... but I would like toyota make a push to upgrade the celica to be a more worthy adversary to the ITR.... anyways if the celica offers a 2 liter version that would be sweet....

The Spoon S2000 (in the taikyu N1 enduro series) registered 1.14 G in a skidpad test in sports compact car magazine.... that is really insane.... [crazy]

but anyways all it takes is $$$$ and the possbilities are endless.... [sweatdrop]

plus I said AWD should favor the Skidpad test, because the theory behind awd is maximizing control by allocating powers to the wheels with most traction.... thus allowing you to conner better and with more control.... but the celica with FWD almost matched it.... could be the center of gravity is lower yes, but these are stock cars.... all in all I say the celica out handles the WRX but these are manufacturer's results and they are usually abit generous with their stats....
