Fabiaman 1st Gear March 1, 2002 Share March 1, 2002 Don't exactly know the correct name for it. But the gas chamber or hatch strut that holds the hatch when you open it... yes, that 2 black rods... Say, Turbobrick, do you know where in Singapore can I buy those? Mine cannot hold in the open position anymore after installing the rear spoiler. Quite desperate to get a replacement now. ↡ Advertisement
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie March 1, 2002 Share March 1, 2002 I got my from a Volvo parts stockist. Not sure where to get universal/generic ones. Lemme take a look at your strut and compare the length and mounting. Perhaps you can use the Volvo one as well. There are usually made by a common OEM company. btw, it's called a gas strut in my Volvo parts list.
Myfocus Neutral Newbie March 1, 2002 Share March 1, 2002 Yah, gas strut is correct term. Right now can't remember the OEM (and too lazy to walk downstairs at 1am). What I last did was to take one out as sample, went down to Waterloo and got a replacement. I got my from a Volvo parts stockist. Not sure where to get universal/generic ones. Prozac Clutched March 3, 2002 Share March 3, 2002 can it be fitted on cars without the gas struts as oem?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie March 3, 2002 Share March 3, 2002 Probably need some modifications to the car's bodywork to allow the gas strut to be mounted.
Prozac Clutched March 3, 2002 Share March 3, 2002 how much would one gas strut cost? Probably need four, two for bonnet, two for boot... Any workshop to recommend for the mod?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie March 3, 2002 Share March 3, 2002 Firstly, ask your mech to check out whether a strut mounting can be made to adapt the gas struts. My OEM strut cost me $36 each. Try Ah Lye of Lye Design if Ur mech cannot do, AMK Autopoint #04-
Madarmour Neutral Newbie March 5, 2002 Share March 5, 2002 As long as you can find a place strong enough to bolt on the mounting points, there should be no problem. If can't bolt, may need to weld on. ↡ Advertisement
