The following is a little history of the Toyota Starlet Turbo line of cars from 1987 - 1998. [sunny]

 

Toyota Starlet Glanza V 1996 - 1998? (EP91) [gossip]

Auto everything, ABS, Airbag, Climate control, lumbar adjustable driver's seat.

Uses 4E-FTE 1331cc DOHC 4cyl EFI-16-valve intercooled turbo engine.

Puts out 100kW@6400rpm, 157Nm@4800rpm. Weight 920kg.

 

Toyota Starlet GT 1994 - 1995 (EP82 + Facelift) [shocked]

4E-FTE 1.3l DOHC 4cyl EFI 16-valve engine. Weight around 860kg?

Around this time a lot of car makers went to using round headlights.

 

Toyota Starlet GT 1993 - 1994 (EP82) [cool]

4E-FTE 1.3l DOHC 4cyl EFI 16-valve engine. Weight around 860kg?

 

Toyota Starlet GT 1992 - 1993 (EP82) [rolleyes]

4E-FTE 1.3l DOHC 4cyl EFI 16-valve engine.

Puts out 100kW@6400rpm, 157Nm@4800rpm. Weight 860kg.

Probably the most common GT Starlet in NZ. Climate control first available in this model.

 

Toyota Starlet GT 1990 - 1991 (EP82) 14x6 steel wheels [;)]

Uses 4E-FTE 1331cc DOHC 4cyl EFI-16-valve intercooled turbo engine. Weight 830kg.

Has cheap vinyl headlining (improved 1992 onwards). Air-con (Climate control 1992 onwards)

 

Toyota Starlet Turbo S 1987 - 1990 (EP71) 14x6 [sly]

Uses the 2T-TELU 1295cc SOHC 4cyl EFI 12-valve intercooled turbo engine.

Puts out 82.5kW@6000rpm, 150Nm@3600rpm. Weight 790kg.

[idea] The Toyota Starlet is a small automobile manufactured by Toyota since 1973, replacing the Toyota Publica (and retaining the Publica's "P" code and generation numbering). The Publica name was still used on some export models for a time however.

 

Initially launched in 1973 as the 40 series, the Starlet was offered with 1000 and 1200 cc engines. Generally the car looked like a shortened Corolla. Variants available were 2-door sedan and 3-door wagon.

 

The 60 series, introduced 1978 was better known, being the first to be extensively sold outside Japan, and offered with 1000, 1200 and 1300 cc engines. 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks were offered in export markets, although a distinctive 5-door wagon variant was sold on the Japanese domestic market. In 1980 the car was facelifted to include square headlights, and again was facelifted in 1983 to incorporate a slant nose frontend.

 

The 70 series in 1984 saw the Starlet finally switch to front wheel drive. 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks were offered. [nod]

 

The 80 and 90 series of 1989 and 1996 retained the same idea of a three/five-door hatchback. [:|]

 

Normally, Starlets were known for being dependable but dull automobiles, but there were exceptions. The Toyota Sera, made in the early 1990s and officially sold only in Japan, was the same car with a sports body and gull-wing doors. Only about 16,000 were ever produced due to their poor performance in frontal-impact crash tests. [shakehead]

 

Several turbocharged sport versions of the Starlet were also sold in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), including the EP71 Turbo S (1987-1990), EP82 GT Turbo (1990-1995) and the EP91 Glanza V (1995-1999). These have become quite popular in recent years in other right-hand drive regions such as the British Isles, Australia and New Zealand as used imports. [inlove]

 

The Starlet was briefly exported to North America from 1981 to 1984, when it was replaced by the Tercel in Toyota's North American lineup.

 

The range was replaced by the Toyota Vitz/Platz/Echo/Yaris range in 1999. [bigcry][wave]

Just couldn't keep my eyes off this thread. scholar.gif

 

This was the only Japanese car I owned way back in 1992 December when I was in my home town. I must tell you, it's one hell of a ride bros.

 

I owned the EP82 GT Turbo with moded GReddy boost controller, BOV, cold-air-intake, custom made piggy-back (with help from my motor electronic friends), inner cage (custom-made), momo steering, LSD, short-shift, light weight fly wheel (custom-made), competition clutch, Apexi turbo timer, big intercooler, oil cooler, Defi guages, ported engine, etc. This car won me 4 races. Which 3 of them I managed to come 1st place in the open category going against the 90's Subaru Impreza and 2nd place in the 4th race. I still miss my GT as it was a real solid car even after the races for my normal street usage.

 

From all the picture I had in my old HDD, this was my engine;

But I've not seen any GT Turbo in Singapore. Any reason why? I see starlets with GT body kits but no GT Turbo pirate.gif

Anyway that was my only Japanese car and moved to Conti cars back again.

Starlets turbo were hell of a car back in the 90s. Back in those days of carpark rallies, the starlets looks comfortable going around bends and not forgetting their quick launches. No doubt their engine were not even close to the 4WD 2L rivals, but there were lotsa close finishes.

 

If i'm not wrong, there is still a white Glanza turbo running ard..

Great but haven't seen that on the roads. Is it because Singapore didn't bring in the GT Turbo?

 

Right now I'm using a 1.8T Octavia with lots of mods. Would still love to have a GT Turbo back if I could get one here [scholar]

The starlet turbo were rare back in the 90s. So its not surprising if you can't see it today. I think the closes car you could get is the Vitz turbo.
