Patcheon Neutral Newbie September 9, 2004 Share September 9, 2004 Was cleaning my sunny engine and I notice the aircon pipe was fix over the right side of the engine block. As there is a lot of condensation on it, it wasn't insulated. Was thinking should I insulate it so that the air con fiuld inside wouldn't be heated up so much by the heat from the engine. Had anyone done it? What sort of insulating materials should I use, was thinking along the line of those use to insulate aircon pipes in houses but don't know can they stand the heat from the engine. Saw some heat shielding tapes at Autobacs that are metalic on one side but 1 coil cost around $100. That seems quite ex for such a small project. ↡ Advertisement

Str2 Neutral Newbie September 11, 2004 Share September 11, 2004 (edited) Hi S2077s, I was refering to pipes that are not covered (that are found with condensation). Kitchen type can also ,use scotch-tape to hold them down before insulation foam. Or foam first then wrap with alum foil or add foil to existing foam get warm as well. It all depends to what extend u want to go to block away the heat. Edited September 11, 2004 by Str2
Goodspeed Clutched September 11, 2004 Share September 11, 2004 hmm... can explain why the aluminum foil works??? insulations is better right>?>
Str2 Neutral Newbie September 12, 2004 Share September 12, 2004 Aluminium-foil is to reflect the heat away. Foam is to prevent the heat getting thru. So alum-foil cover foam better than just foam alone.
Goodspeed Clutched September 13, 2004 Share September 13, 2004 hmm what abt wrapping the insulation outside... what i think is that when u wrap inside the heat is actcully trap in the insulation form... nothing much u can do abt it..reflect out also goes into the form ↡ Advertisement
