Recommendation for ICE

hi all, noobie for ICE here.

 

Basically not very high standards and will like to seek recommendations here. Budget is abt $1.2k; currently using a Pioneer 7450 and Boston Acoustic 2 way co-axial. Will want to change simply to a Pioneer 8-series HU and a matching 2 way (or 3?) component speaker setup. Necessity to have an amp? Cos I'm not using one now and it feels fine. Basically a MP3 CD receiver + component speakers.

 

I'm open to other brands suggestion but my budget is $1.2k (w/o installation). Can u perhaps suggest where I can get this done. No need the absolute cheapest but solid workmanship and won't get kertok one.

u can try Trust motion. Look for Ah Wah. He's workmanship quite good. I installed my gauges and my friend installed his simple ICE setup there

oh yar, what do you think? do i need to budget for an amplifier or i can make do with just a HU/component speakers? Dramatic improvement? Subwoofers a definite no-no, cos lack of space in the car. thanks!

My 2 cts, ICE gurus correct me if I'm wrong. Adding an amp will help to tighten up the sound you get from the speakers, at the same time maybe letting you run a lower setting on your bass levels on the HU. Dramtic improvement or not will depend on the wattage of your HU and amp, and the power rating of your speakers.

 

If your stock speakers are crap like mine, just changing them to better quality component speakers and doing some soundproofing on your doors can change the sound quite dramatically.
