Lightspeed Clutched October 20, 2002 Share October 20, 2002 I feel that the ESI's metal is too thin and that buying a COE car is not worth the money

Luke721 Neutral Newbie October 20, 2002 Share October 20, 2002 (edited) Hi, COE cars come with lower monthly installments, so you'll get to enjoy the feeling of a 'heavier' wallet As for the engine and parts, it depends on the stats; like the make, number of owners, transfer dates, etc My first car was a COE Honda Accord 81' - good car but I failed to realise that there were 18 transfers, which meant that the car had been thoroughly abused and 'violated' - ended up having to return the car to the dealer after only 8 weeks ... However, my pal who's driving a 13 year old Honda Civic has no complaints so far, cept' for the routine change of parts like the timing belts, et cetera ... Main thing - work out your budget and you should be able to find a good ride that goes easy on your wallet Edited October 20, 2002 by Luke721
E21s Neutral Newbie October 20, 2002 Share October 20, 2002 Honda spareparts are usually more expensive than even Continental cars. Eg Brake Disc: Mercs = $70+ pcs Honda = $120 - $140 per pcs I know becos I had recently wanted to change it. In the end, my mech advised me just to level top layer of the disc because my steering wheel is vibrating whenever I jammed the brake at above 90 klick. This cost me $60. Zolidlim Neutral Newbie October 20, 2002 Author Share October 20, 2002 Ok, however, thanks for most of yr feedbacks. My wifey also forbids me to change to a older car. She said sure got probs.... I'll work it out and see how it goes. For yr informations, i think the prices of cars are going up slowly liao... Just went to carmart with my bro(he wanted to get a car too), I realised that cars now are slightly more X than bout a month or so ago.... Example: a 98' Civic Vti now yearly dep. is $7400-$7800! Its bout $500 diff!!
Guyver 1st Gear October 20, 2002 Share October 20, 2002 Hmm... right too.... is it? I just went to 2nd hand car dealer today... think it's still quite soft... I even saw a Corolla G9 going for $74K / Praf $14K with about 9yrs to go..... cheap?
Rainbowsix Neutral Newbie October 27, 2002 Share October 27, 2002 I feel that the ESI's metal is too thin and that buying a COE car is not worth the money The main problem with COE car is that there is no more scrap value so when u want to let go, the dealer will take in at a very low price so unless u are prepared for that, do think twice before u commit. Of course, if u can find a good example that is well taken care of, the COE car might serve your needs faithfully!
Kanzai Neutral Newbie November 12, 2002 Share November 12, 2002 Hi All I'm new to this forum. Need your help. I've just place a deposit for a 2nd hand Honda Exi 1.5A (1999). The dealer is sell @ $61,300.00 Do you think it is a fair price.
Pathfinders Neutral Newbie November 12, 2002 Share November 12, 2002 (edited) You have to tell us the OMV, COE value and which month is the car registered? Edited November 12, 2002 by Heueriq
Kanzai Neutral Newbie November 12, 2002 Share November 12, 2002 Sorry OMV:$18,226.00 COE:$30,575.00 (COE rebate as at 30/11/2002) PARF:$23,693.00 (as at 30/11/2002) Register date: Nov 1999 Thanks
Pathfinders Neutral Newbie November 12, 2002 Share November 12, 2002 I work out your yearly dep @ ~S$6675. Should be around the market price for a exi if your car is in a good shape. I got my vti(a) at S$7.5k per yr last year. I hope you did make an arrangement (black and white on paper) with the dealer before you paid the deposit to have the car send for evaluation by AA/STA/Vicom. If the car have some serious problem, the make the dealer pay you back the deposit. If the problem is minor and not serious, make the dealer rectify it before handing over the car. Do not be afraid of the dealers.

Guyver 1st Gear November 12, 2002 Share November 12, 2002 Think the high scrap value justify for it that in the event u were to scrap the car on the 5th year... u won't lose much.... so if the condition of the car is alright..... think u got a good deal. Do post us the pics!!
Kanzai Neutral Newbie November 14, 2002 Share November 14, 2002 Thanks bro. Btw after viewing a Ford Mondeo, have decided to buy the Ford instead. Purchase the Ford Mondeo 2.0 @ $57,000.00.
