Mk1gti Neutral Newbie October 20, 2004 Share October 20, 2004 The new Golf V is a new revelation for the next generation of the hatchback. Suspension has been totally revised, esply the rear, ala Ford Focus. The FSI engine is also a technological advancement for the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda family as it 'sips' petrol and its FC is almost comparable to the turbodiesels thus enabling it to qualify for lower taxes for company fleet cars in Europe. Unfortunately, heard it from the grapevine that since our petrol's composition is not suitable for the FSI's engine, the fuel consumption is not as good as spec by the manufacturers. Interior built quality is a slight mark down from the MkIV's. Why? Maybe spend too much money for the new suspension. Apart from that, it has dual climate control aircon, rear air con vents, automatic headlights, rain sensor wipers, anti-dimming rear view mirror, some high tech steering thingie and the list goes on. Boot quite spaciuos for a hatch and the rear leg room is impressive.
Steady Neutral Newbie October 20, 2004 Share October 20, 2004 Had test drived before on the golf 5, found it lacks the oomph. But once it picks up enough speed, it quite smooth actually, and the handling is amazing! Accesories is fully loaded, it absolutely! Heard that the sulpur content in our local petrol is too high for the FSI engine, but I suspect the dealer could have made some adjustment to the ECU to comply with our petrol. Not too sure about this though . Price wise, too high for my liking. MHO.
Silver_blade Turbocharged October 22, 2004 Share October 22, 2004 I have also test driven it and find it lack in outright performance. But handling is better than the previous model and it's interior quality is very good.
