"Why do those people who drive Saabs have that smile on their face? To drive, its a nice and quiet & relaxing jet fighter sort of way......an engineer at Saab once told me the absolute limit for a FWD car is 220BHP....this has 250. The drive is just hysterical.....the way this thing goes in 2nd gear from 40 to 70mph is just ....SENSATIONAL ...never mind a 5 series BMW, this could do it quicker than a Porsche 911 Turbo" Jeremy Clarkson's review of the MY'04 9-5 Aero on BBC Top Gear.

Belated article.

My 9-5 is turning 5 in a couple of mths. Mileage now is 76k.

The list (6 items) seems rather accurate.

I've done 5 out of the 6 items already.

But I had to discover item no. 2 & no.4 the inconvenient way - car stalled in the middle of a drive! So, 2 occasions over 5yrs!

After driving a 900 classic, a 9000CS & this 9-5 over 8yrs, I'll be quiting the saab brand soon to try other conti brands.

For those who are not willing to part with av. $2500/yr, saab is not your car.

By right, I shld be one of those who are so used to paying such sums annually so shouldn't complain abt saab maintenance costs. I'm not complaining abt the costs ... but with 2 stallings over 5yrs, ... in the middle of my drives ..., it's a health hazard & time sapping (calling & waiting for tow truck ..).

Despite regular servicings, i still have to go thru' with the stallings.

(another grouse I have is Y trans had to choose dear Ms KN to be saab ambassador! maybe trans is now targetting at the Bengs to go for saab)

For those of you who are sticking by your Saab but are intending to cut maint. costs by going to outside shops, here's my suggestion:

- do the std scheduled servicings thru' trans then ask the engr to list down all the to-be-replaced items. then go to the outside shops & ask them to fix according to the list.

But I can't be sure if all the customer service mechanics will do this for you ... maybe you can remind them that at least they still get to earn from the servicing checks. My custy mechanic did that for me with my 9000CS & 900S.

overall, i know i will 'miss' saab as i really did like : comfortable ride, torque, the saab image (er.. not the image created by our ms ambassador), design.

But it's also time for me to leave behind :- poor control, high maint. costs, undependable parts (the stallings), high fuel consumption, uncomfortable rear seat head rests.

well, let's see what my alternative conti car will be like ...

No doubt about that. Dear Ms KN is a very friendly person & I won't doubt her driving skills. That's why I address her as 'Dear', out of respect.

And as I've said, it's a personal grouse.

Worldwide survey shows that Saab owners are mainly work professionals - pilots, academics, doctors, lawyers, etc.

Even Trans has mentioned this before in one of their circulars.

So it's strange that Dear Ms KN is called upon as an ambassador for Saab in singapore.

No doubt she's fun, energetic, perhaps good at driving & outgoing ... (I can think of other TCS illuminaries that can fit this bill too), however, I really doubt if working professionals really identify with her at all. Offhand, I know the Bengs would though.

Don't know ... but I also do recall her in public statements previously how she loved the VW (4motion?). As such, I don't think she'll be a saab purist - probably if another agent dangles her a fat carrot to shift camp, she would (unless Trans counter offer). But of course, this is subjective & also to be fair to Dear Ms KN, it's all commercial so no need to get too worked up over this perhaps.

then again, the saab owners I know don't watch Dear Ms KN's programmes at all so they probably won't know (or be bothered with) what type of image she portrays.

on retrospect, i think Dear Ms KN should represent the EVOs or the WRXs. With all due respect to all such owners but it's the boy/street racer image, pple who want to dress up their car alot, etc.
