Presea 3rd Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 ...I've heard some enthusiasts refer to Alfa and Ferrari "automatics" as clutchless manual cars.... Something about it being unlike any ordinary automatic transmissions, and being superior to most japanese triptronic systems....like honda's and mitsubishi's latest versions. cheers
Presea 3rd Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 thanks....yup that's what I meant I've been playing a few computer/arcade games where the gear changes are done via paddles....quite fun after awile....after you get used to them
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 OK, the stick shifter MANUAL and the Selespeed ROBOTISED manual shifter. Do I make myself clear now..................
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Yup, the gearbox is fully manual but clutch and gear-changes are done by high pressure actuators. The ECU, once a signal for gear change is made, will set a motion of engaging clutch --> change gear --> disengage clutch.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 I think the generic word for this kind of transmission would be sequential manual gearshift (SMG). The so-called triptronic, which was first coined by Porsche, is actually an auto tranny with an ability to for the gears to be shifted sequentially and manually. There are more and more cars which are equipped with SMG nowadays and the 156 is the first high production car to have it. Not fool-proof, though and owners has to learn to get used to this kind of transmission. Initial impression is that it's jerky.
Mondeo Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Notice he never used the word "Auto " either It's a "clutchless transmission system" So is "CTS"

Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 4, 2002 Share November 4, 2002 Well...................if you want to put it that way!
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 4, 2002 Share November 4, 2002 The current 156 has only 150bhp due to strict Euro IV (I think) emission regulations. However, the facelifted model with JTS engine has slightly more than 160bhp. What's the color of the 156 you saw at Bt Timah Rd? There are a few rare 2.5 V6 manual running about in SG. Assassin Clutched November 4, 2002 Share November 4, 2002 (edited) It was a very light green one. I already saw this guy in my rear view mirror about 200m behind weaving in and out of traffic. Fastforward Neutral Newbie November 4, 2002 Share November 4, 2002 Hi all brothers, Got a shock of my life when I was driving along TPE heading towards Hougang just now. Saw a blue Alfa Romeo and was thinking of having some fun. We both exit at Hougang and was stuck at the traffic light. Thinking that my modified 205bhp SiR (dyno-tested) should be able to beat him flat. When the light turned green, I go on at full throttle thinking that it will be another victory over a conti. To my atonishment, the alfa romeo effortlessly leave me behind and the next moment, I lost him!!!!! How the hell would a Alfa be so fast? I clocked my century sprint at 7 sec flat and he can beat me FLAT!!!!! Any brothers here know who is him? I'm really interested to know what he has done to his car OR if you are the driver who is reading now, let's meet for a coffee. Hi Sir75 I find it amazing that considering what you have that the Alfa could have left you behind easily, at most you would be behind a couple of car lenghts even if your launched was not good. Sir76 Neutral Newbie November 4, 2002 Author Share November 4, 2002 Hi Fasrforward, I dun think its a mislaunch la. That Alfa was really freaking fast!!! The badges are all removed from the boot with the exception of the Alfa emblem so I won't know its a 2l or 2.5l. From my friend in McWell, he was telling that there is a old customer of his who formerly drove a SiR had convert to a Alfa 156 last year. This 156 is the 2l model and is supercharged and with lots of performance enhancement stuffs all imported directly from Italty. Its said that this 156 had also beaten Ben Lim's WRX! From his description, the 156 is fantasy blue in colour driven by a guy called Adrian. Dunno whether is him the who had given me sleepless nights but the description fits in quite well though. Thats all I know for now.
