RP is better then Fuch.

Care to give some example why u come to that conclusion?

Like is there any experience or incident where during you usage you can quote that one is better than the other. Or is it just the gut feeling only.

I also intend to use the Fuch oil for my next oil change, so need to find out is there is any negative on the oil.

The conclusion is based on personal experience based on Fuchs, RP 5W-40 and few other brands of engine oil I used for the past driving experience.

My carby starlet pretty sensitve to engine oil. During cold start, Fuchs after around 7,000km dun seems to be able to perform, hard driving was bad - burnt oil smell. Oil was drain at 9,000km. RP on the other hand, 10,000km still quite okie, 13,000km starts to break down with lots of carbon smell. Although RP oil consumption is slightly higher then usual.

A buddy of mine driving a Ford Laser had almost a similar experience. We bought a few bottles the Super-syn 5W-40 during promotion and 5 pails of RP 5W-40 till this yr.

Above all are based on personal experience, Fuch might be better for your vehicle. I am not paid to advertise for RP watsoever.

I am now using the 2nd bottle of Mobil 1 5L pack (1 from Carrefour, the other from TB) on my EP80, EE101 now.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hard driving with burnt oil smell seem unusual. Oil smell with hard driving.I think sure have, but burning smell is something hard to qualify.

Syn oil don't easily breakdown with hard driving, but for circuit racing maybe, where the temp may reach above the oil specs. Smelling the oil to check condition might not be the best way of determining the condition.

The facts that you used the oil for 9000km w/o engine damage and breakdown seem to indicate the oil is not detrimental to engine. As for your carby starlet, after 7k of driving w/o checking and adjustment of tappets, ignition timing, and maybe contact points, these adjustments may go out especially during hard driving, and may not indicated the oil is the cause. So I don't think you starlet is sensitive to the oil since she can survive the first 7k.

Let me share what is oil burning, once I tried to use mobil, non syn oil on my 323 and done some hard driving. After that, when I open my top cover to adjust my tappets, I saw my cam shaft lobes turn dull grey (supposed to be shiny and smooth) and rough to the touch. Thought the cam spoil liao, so bought another one. Later on I use autosol to rub the removed cam lobe, whao liao, the dull part was off and the lobes was shiny again, that is oil burning and it coat on the metal until it become attached to the surface. Anyway, the camshaft was damaged with lots of scratches becos I thought cannot reuse alreadi.

I think, if you were to check your tuning then, maybe the oil can last till 13000km and further.

My opinion.

I can join u adjusting valve tappets next time.

I drive a 323 before, I adj the 323 and Starlet tappets and timing myself too. Which model of 323 are u driving? [:)]

Previously, mine was 323 1.5 but with a GT camshaft fitted.

Now I drive skoda. No idea on the adjustment spec yet.

If you adjust the tappets, u want easy starting and smooth ride at low to medium revs, adjust the gap to the wide side.say if spec say 8 to 10 thou, adjust to 10 thou.

if you want high end performance, adjust the gap the other way. my experience.

Saw lots of adverts for Fuch oil. Unless some opinion leaders around me tell me its worth a try, I will not use it.

I use RP because car "siows" (crazy) people who uses RP gives the thumbs up for its price / performance. So far, heard no endorsement abt Fuch yet leh... anyone?

Before RP, I swear by Mobil 1.

Some people in the delphi forums have good things to say about it, so was thinking of giving it a try. Know of any 5W40 oils other than Fuchs?

Hello,

I had once used Fuch oil. Seems O.K. to me but some friends says they engine become more noisy using Fuch.

If I were to comment on Royal Purple (RP) oil, I will say they are not good. I am using it on my 2 year old Honda Accord, engine condition is perfect. I do oil change every 10,000kms for Syn oil.

After using in RP oil, I was shocked to find that after 6,000kms, the oil level had dropped to below minimum mark and need to top up. I had this same experience with Syn oil TOP 1 brand which I bought in Makro Malaysia. i now rate them as washed out brand.

After which, I serviced my car at Comfort. Their oil package uses SPC oil 5W-40 which is actually Esso Ultron. Up to 10,000km the oil level didn't even dropped by a single mm. Don't need to top up in between oil change.

In conclusion, I would say its best to stick to Major brands. Inferior oil may not just kill your engine within say a 100,000 kms. Look at the days of your dad's time, they used mineral oil , changed every 5,000km or even 10,000 for those who doesn't take care of their cars too much. They all ran for a good 5 years or more before you see their engines start giving white smoke.

Of course , if you change car every say 3 years, any oil into the engine will still be O.K. Its the later years, that the effects will show.

Know of any other 5w-40 oil then? I know not all oils come in a certain viscosity or rating. [crazy]

Certain oils might have different effects on different cars, to me, RP seemed to be overhyped esp in Delphi forums! Everybody seemed to jump onto the bandwagon at one point! [shocked]
