How to forget??? That's where we started to learn to 'oversteer' even before we started to drive!!! thumbsup.gif

My favourite 1/32 was a Ford GT40 which crashed so many times that I had Band-Aided (no super-glue, then) so many times due to shunts! Just inlove.gif'd that car!!!

What memories... Thanks!

[PS: Did you know that there're still public tracks available in UK?]

what a coincidence;- my bro and i both had a 1/32 Ford GT40 each, the cars would juz slide and drift (while pivoted to the slot!!), we did 3 hours enduros during year end holiday until the transformer almost overheated and gave up the ghost [laugh][laugh]

then the F1 cars had turning front wheels etc, and the mini coopers from another UK company .............

i guess you did the same:- from the basic Scaletric 12-foot track, we kept adding (that's where all the angpows $$$ gone to [:/] ) extra track sections, until the full track ran rings in our living room .......

boy, the 3 hours enduro was tough........ our frenz brought their US made cars to challenge us, but those were no match with our GT40s which we subsequently lightened by cutting off the roof, leaving the transparent 'glass' canopy intact which made our GT40s liked hybrids between an open and a targa racers ..... and we filed away the axles supports thus lowering the cars significantly for better handling ....

then we bought tamiya's Lotus 30 and 40, both were abit clumsy but with lightning top speeds......... then Ferrari 350P (i think so) and Porsche Carrera etc etc ....... great fun [thumbsup][thumbsup]

did you visit the few slot car joints in Robinson Rd and Selegie Rd ??? ....... fond memories [sunny]

now i let me boys play the hotwheel scale slot cars, but they dun make them like they did any more [:/][blush]

yeah, i visited some websites featuring existing slot car tracks/clubs in UK and USA..... would love to race there if i ever visit these places ....... oh ya, now i remember the king of the road in those days:- the Cox sports car .........

Yes, also spent all the ang pow money on the slot-racers. The GT40 was my favourite because it was the most stable (aerodynamic?) of the lot, and I was able to fill-in plastercine underneath the car to make a smooth bottom (learnt about aerodynamics then, but not about venturi yet) and lower the centre of gravity.

We had our own (home built) 8-shape track on a 8x4 wooden plank with polished surface. That way, it was easier to induce oversteer, and provided training for speed control to sustain oversteer, and also to avoid collision on the intersection of the '8' track. Of course, we soon learnt that oversteer wasn't the fastest way around the track! We did our racing at Selegie.

What memories... nod.gif
