Superblackbox Neutral Newbie July 25, 2005 Share July 25, 2005 hmmm a question from me.. So polishing is removing the so call oxidse layer. So how often can we do polishing before waxing? Wont polishing make the coat thinner since we are removing the oxide layer.. my experiance with Autosol. it remove a thin layer so that my chrome parts can be more shiny but at the expense of making the metal thinner..over the times i use autosol... hmmm ↡ Advertisement
Ahhuat 1st Gear July 25, 2005 Share July 25, 2005 i donno how often you can do polishing but i noe that my dad's last car was kept for 7 yrs and it wasnt polished till no paint was left! But as far as i noe, it does strip away a thin oxide layer so technically there will be a problem with too much polishing, years down the road, or so i think. Therefore, what i do is to delay the need for me to polish the car by waxing. Wax doesnt really last long in singapore's climate and therefore i think that for it to be effective, you gotta do it like once a week to play it safe. In that way, you wont have to polish that often and the paint wont get much chance to oxidise. My routine is: 1. polish 2. sealant, 2 coats 3. wax. Repeat steps 1 and 2 every 2 mths, wax whenever i can. so far no probs. using autoglym for 1 & 2 and soft99 carnauba for the 3rd.

Ahhuat 1st Gear July 25, 2005 Share July 25, 2005 sorry... forgot to add, my routine does include claying. since it is troublesome to do it in all one day and singapore's weather recently sucks big time, if im doing it, i wash it thoroughly one day, including scrubbing windows, rims, interior. 2nd day, wash again and clay, polish then about 2 layers sealant. and yes, i wipe off then seal again, leaving about an hour in btw for the sealant to set. after that, if time permits, top off with wax the very same day. or else, next day, first thing i do is rinse down with just water then wax. my method might not be right, but so far it works. I brought a 2 yr old car which was hardly washed to look quite nice! btw, now also polishing windows with autoglym window polish. seems to complete the whole process! Gen2 Neutral Newbie July 25, 2005 Share July 25, 2005 Following is quoted from MOL by Mike Phillips, A lot of people when they see the word polish automatically assume this to mean a product, or components of a product that is the abrasive, or contains the abrasive and that's not always true of Meguiar's products because we make two kinds of polishes, cleaner/polishes, (polishes with diminishing abrasives), and pure polishes, (polishes that are completely non-abrasive). So it really depands what polish you are using, if it is the pure polish than there is no worry of thinning the clear coat or paint. The purpose of such polish is mainly to restore clarity and richness of color.

Law_je2 Neutral Newbie July 26, 2005 Share July 26, 2005 Any one heard or use this ....sound incredible.... CLEAN, WAX, POLISH AND SEAL all at one go... you do not need to pre wash your car before using NO-WET. In fact, you do not even need to use any WATER at all! http://www.nowetasia.com/no-wet.htm

Silgt Neutral Newbie July 26, 2005 Share July 26, 2005 Any one heard or use this ....sound incredible.... CLEAN, WAX, POLISH AND SEAL all at one go... you do not need to pre wash your car before using NO-WET. In fact, you do not even need to use any WATER at all! Good thing they didn't claim that you can use the product in your tank to replace petrol...that would be something. Heard of these "water-less" wash before, it seems that is nothing more than a combination of quick detailer + car shampoo in a bottle. Especially useful in a harsh environment (eg, deep winter) where washing with water is not an option. Anyone tried it?
