COMPARISON FOR A FEW MODEL .. HELP NEEDED ..

Hi , i went for the ford focus launch and i find that it is quite a good vehicle .. however .. for a conti. car at this price .. i could get the opel astra or the renult megane ... can someone give me a full review of these 3 cars so that i can determined which is the best ?? Lastly .. does anyone know the omv price for these cars ?Thks in advance ..

I'm also considering the 3 cars and have tried both Astra and Megane. I'm going to be trying out the Focus 2 soon. Maybe I will share my thoughts after that.

Same here..I'm considering these 3 cars as well. At the moment, I haven't test the Focus yet. But it's been the one I've been waiting for. Hope it's worth it.

 

If you've been to the launch, you should have gotten some brochures depicting the difference between the 3. If not look for Seansense's (fellow forummer) reviews. He has done a magnificent and impartial job.

but ford focus new omv is not out yet .. my se also told me tt the 17k the quote is for the old ford focus .. tt is y i am eager to find out

yea .. personally .. i test-drive the ford focus and the opel astra 2 in hb form ... both handling is terrific ... however astra is better to drive with ... i would like to test drive the megane 2 ... but i heard tt it is quite an old model .. out in dec 2003 rite ??

Do you have that brochure comparing the 3? What's their say about the Focus against the two of them?

You do have a point there. Curious why the SE didn't tell you the OMV of the Focus 2. Maybe the paper value is too low?

I personally would recommend anything but the Megane. Why? Too many on the roads. I used to smile when I see a fellow Megane driver. Now I get this weird look when I smile at their direction. I am not trying to convince you otherwise. Just look at the number, Exklusive sold close to 170 Meg2 for March and April alone this year. And to think Exklusive attributed the numbers to the Renault F1 success, yikes.

I can personally attest that the Megane 2 is very solid while cruising but I will tear my hair out when I'm starting from stationary. Perhaps the NVH is so fantastic so much so that I cannot feel the car picking up. The handling is nothing to shout about but is definitely not as good as Astra's. I like Astra's interior better than Megane 2's. I guess I walked away from Megane 2's test drive not feeling half as good as when I did the Astra.

 

Talking about NVH, Astra's worse than Megane 2's. In fact, as I mentioned in the other thread, Astra's NVH is made very bad with the Turanza that it is wearing. With the right tyres, it should be closer to Megane 2's quiet cabin.

 

Of course, Megane 2 has the keyless start but it's a little bit of a gimmick. Astra has the flipping key which is similar to Golf/Bora's.

 

Ok, I guess I should stop to prevent this from becoming a full review.

 

BTW, Megane 2 is not old!

gotta read carefully though.. the brochure from Autocar? They actually compared using the Ti-VCT engine rather than the Duratec engine that we are getting here... one is a VVT and the other the normal 4 cylinder.. one is rated 115bhp while the other is 100bhp... the new focus is a heavier car than mk1.. go figure..

actually... why not consider the Mazda 3 now? prices have dropped from its mad mad Mazda-Motor-rip-off days to a more reasonable level for a 15-16k OMV car (i think)... i said stay away during the initial period coz of the high mark-up, but now... it's different with the lower pricing.. it's based on the new focus platform afterall

 

i thought i saw in the papers that the basic sedan is just under 70k? if so, i would consider it more than the rest

Ehhh...I believe Mazda 3 price went down only cos of COE. The rest of the cars oso went down as much. If you think it was overpriced last time, I think it's still overpriced now.

I also was looking at these 3. However, the Megane dropped out of the running mainly because I did not like the shape. Right now considering the Astra and Focus H/B, with the Focus edging slightly ahead. I find the Focus,

 

1) Having a bigger cabin

2) Smoother and silent ride

3) Better handling

 

And, I don't like the Easytronic gearbox of the Astra, but owners who have gotten use to it to find it wounderful.

Like what Mojoe said that, not a very fair comparison as the engine type is different. The BHP difference is significant. Somehow, I believe the comparison is biased towards Focus. Maybe that's why they are giving them out?
