Hi all,

Let's take a look at the cables that he actually uses in the installations. These materials were used when my car's ICE was installed by Zoom in Sep 2001.

Top Cable = Power Cable to the amps

The insulation of the 8AWG power cable reads:

+++ High Current Low Voltage Power Cable OFC HOTLINES USA 8AWG +++

Middle Cable = Ground Cable from the amps

The insulation of the ground cable reads:

LLL58118 CSA TYPE TEW 12AWG 105 deg C 600VAC FTI RYTHM

Bottom Cable = amplifier output to the passive cross-overs.

There are no markings on the cables.

Some notes:

1. The power and ground cable must be of the same thickness (gauge). This has been emphasized in most installation manuals like the following:

Note: The ground cable must be as the same size as the power wire.

(from http://www.precisionpower.com/ppipdfs/ppiamps/ppi2ch1.pdf page 3)

It really puzzles me for using a 12AWG as ground cable and 8AWG as power cable

2. Cables for AC and DC usage.

All ICE equipment are powered using DC. Does it make sense to use AC cables for ICE applications?

3. Speaker wires

from http://www.precisionpower.com/ppipdfs/ppiamps/ppi2ch1.pdf page 5, it is stated that speaker wires must be at least 16AWG. Have a good look at the thickness of speaker cables used.
