Haha .. I am not professional tuner mah ... I only tune my own car, and few others for free coffee. Anyway, TC is much easier to tune than NA. Mainly significant result can be achieved easily. NA, tune like crazy, just that little bit, very difficult to justify for the effort [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

That is correct. In NA cars, tune like hell and you sometimes get only 1-2HP more on certain cars. In FI applications, as much as I hate to admit, the gains are often so big that even butt tuning works, though I wouldn't try it.

I understand what you are pointing to.. In my car's ECU case, the WOT is extremely lean, so lean that I'm worried that it maybe unsafe for too much hard driving. (14:1 to 14.3:1) At that level, engine may be weakened over the years.

After tuning the NA, at least, I know the engine will be safer to drive hard for long stretch of time. There's no significant gain, but definitely some gain that can be felt.

Hey sorry guys, just wondering... what are the prices of the SAFC2 and the Emanage in sg nowadays? I get them at AUD$380 and AUD$500 respectively and I'm wondering if it would be cheaper hold off for now and get them back home at the end of the year.

Thanks, I heard about this forum.. I didn't tune much recently.

Never heard of R-fit.. THere's a new e-manage ultimate being released, supposed to be very powerful.

actually, if I'm not wrong, e-manage and SAFC are very different things altogether, aren't they? the SAFC mainly controls air/fuel mixture, while the e-manage controls a lot more than that? Even the Unichip does more than an SAFC.

So why compare these 2 in the first place?

I've got a Tomei ECU in the car, however here in Aust, theres nobody with the software to tune it. The car is running quite rich. The SAFC, Emanage and R-Fit all control AFR's. Looking to see which one cheaper to get, and in the case of the R-Fit, its something new, so backside itchy as well [:p]

Well for the R-Fit not really new, but at AUD$319 its a lot cheaper. It also has 2 sets ( allows tuning for 2 octane ratings) of 64 maping points. However this one is a little limited as nobody seems to be buying them so its a little harder to get.

imo, after testing the e-manage software, it is hands down better than safc.

It does ignition timing, AF compensation based on RPM and/or boost, sub injectors, ignition, anti stall for FI cars with BOVs, data logging. It alone is powerful enough to handle anything most ppl do to the car. It is easy to use, and the forum support is very good.

You can try getting it used.

I suspect that the ECU was tuned for heavier engine mods while the car was in japan and most of these mods were removed. The T3 turbo (been changed) was the first indication, and so are the 550cc denso's. The fuel tank was definately opened (prolly had an aftermarket fuel pump) and it looks like there was a different intercooler and exhaust there before (some studs look newer than others). Also suspension, chassis strength and driveline wise, the car is fully decked out with the exception of the subframe components which are stock. Lastly you can see where other aftermarket items were affixed on the interior of the car. I have yet to pull the engine apart to check the internals, but its unlikely that they've been changed. Compression is approx 147psi with a 2psi variation across all the cylinders so that's healthy :)

Hmmz... I;m guessing that the ECU has fairly aggressive settings (with the exception of the AFR). Even while running as rich as it is, its still making more power than all the equally boosted versions of the stock car. I think emanage would is better too... prob is i don't know if I'll be using most of the functions... Also are the harnesses hard to come by? (I'm kinda swaying towards emanage coz of you :p)

Actually, why not swap the Tomei? I'm sure someone on eBay will buy it. Get an FCon for your car brand new, which is still tunable. It's like, I can buy a MoTec for my car, but there's no way it can be tuned for a Alfa. So, it's practically useless.

Anyways, I don't think it's fair to compare the SAFC to the E-Manage, because they're simply 2 different things...

In truth, its coz I'm vain... I would rather say I've got a Tomei ECU than say I have a power FC (which is what I would be going for if i was to change the ECU).

I asked about the eManage because although i heard its interface is harder to use as opposed to the SAFC2 or Power FC (which I am very familiar with), its only $100 more for me in Aust to get the emanage. I actually wanted to see if the AFR controls on the emanage are worth the extra $ as I doubted I'll be touching the other functions.

After reading a bit more about zruns emanage stuff and coming across the emanage forums, my fingers are getting a little itchy so I'm now tempted to get it. Tomei assured me that it was safe to use piggybacks on their ecu so it should be fine... They also told me I could record the entire dyno session on a CDR and send it with the ECU to japan for them to tune, but i think thats a little too troublesome, and would cost as much as a replacement ecu (tuning is free for me).

Anyway I've decided on the emanage as there're ton's of harnesses for it on ebay and yahoo auctions plus it will allow me to tune 770cc injectors if i decide to which the SAFC2 can't do (up to 550cc). Now I just need to find out the price in singapore for it...
