Before the Bugatti Veyron was released, the world speed record for a production car was held by Shelby SuperCars’ (SSC) Ultimate Aero. When the Veyron broke that record, it might have caused some distress to SSC. Looks like the owner, Jerod Shelby, is not going to sit down and do nothing about it. (Jerod Shelby is not related to Carroll Shelby, the former race car driver whose special edition cars are associated with Ford Motors)
Several months ago, SSC announced that there won’t be an Ultimate Aero 2. Instead they unveiled the SSC Tuatara and now they have released more pictures of their super car.
The name Tuatara is apparently a Maori name for a lizard. SSC did showcase the car at a Shanghai auto show several months back but they did not reveal anything much about the vehicle except for just displaying it. But now the people at Shelby SuperCars have been busy preparing photos and a video, as a way to push more exposure for the Tuatara.
In order to give the whole vehicle a breathtaking look, the designers at SSC have made the interior to cohere with its exterior styling. Modern-looking, sleek lines, black and white colour scheme are just some of the aspects of the Tuatara.
There is a glass screen on the dashboard of the car that projects information such as speed and rpm, just like a heads-up display. At the passenger side there’s even a digital display read-out of the car’s G-force. In a way, the passenger can figure out why they feel twice as heavy as normal when the Tuatara is taking a corner at fast speeds.
Several buttons adorn the centre console which suggests that they are probably for items like traction control and suspension set-up. According to Shelby designers, the twin central exhausts design is mimicked from a space shuttle rocket exhausts.
The whole interior still looks rather conceptual but expect most of the features to be included in the final production model. Under the front bonnet, SSC will place a twin-turbo 6.8 litre V8 that delivers 1350bhp with a top speed of 275mph (442km/h) and a 0-60mph that will crush the Veyron Super Sport, which is the only thing that matters to SSC.
