  1. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Countach (the history started with Project LP112 in 1971), Lamborghini decided to revive the nameplate on a limited-production hybrid model. Only 112 units of the Countach LPI 800-4, which has a naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine with a 48-volt electric motor based on the technology of the Sián FKP 37, will be produced. The V12 engine of the Countach is as legendary as the design. Mounted longways at the rear together with its forward-cabin layout, the original Countach featured side-mounted radiators from Formula One; forward-facing gearbox and tubular spaceframe technology. It was as revolutionary in its approach to sports car engineering as in its astonishing looks, with its engine position chosen for weight distribution and balance and of course, the aspirated twelve cylinders delivering the most emotive top performance. The Countach developed the best available technologies to produce an extraordinary car: this visionary philosophy is reflected in the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, taking the pinnacle of current Lamborghini technologies and engineering to produce the performance expected from a Countach in 2021. "The engineering team that developed the original Countach advanced Lamborghini's pioneering technical approach, delivering unexpected innovations and the best performance available in a production car," says Lamborghini Chief Technology Officer Maurizio Reggiani. "That spirit inherently drives Lamborghini R&D, resulting in the pioneering hybrid technology in the LPI 800-4, and the emotive driving experience and top-line performance expected from a flagship V12 Lamborghini." The Lamborghini V12 6.5 liter engine, outputting 780 cv, is combined with a 48 volt e-motor mounted directly on the gearbox providing a further 34 cv for immediate response and increased performance: it is the innovative and unique architecture Lamborghini developed for Sián, that is the only mild-hybrid technology to create a direct connection between electric motor and wheels, preserving the pure V12 behavior. The e-motor is powered by a supercapacitor providing three times more power compared to a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. The monocoque chassis and all the body panels are in carbon fiber, provide the optimum lightweight solution as well as exceptional torsional stiffness: the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 has a dry weight of 1595 kg for a dry weight to power ratio of 1,95 kg/cv. Visible exterior carbon fiber features are available in the front splitter, around the front window and wing mirrors, engine bonnet cover air intakes and rocker panel and it is always present in specific interior details. Moveable air vents produced by the state-of-the-art 3D printing technology, and a photocromatic roof - changing from solid to transparent at the push of a button - act as a reminder that this car, despite its historic inspiration, is a future automotive screensaver for the 21st century.
  2. Aston Martin Debuts an All-New $300,000 DBS Superleggera Coupe The $304,995 V12 will compete against Ferrari’s 812 Superfast. Aston Martin has just debuted the DBS Superleggera on Tuesday, June 26. Based on Formula One styling, the $304,995 coupe will replace the Vanquish, a so-called super-grand touring two-door that Aston Martin has made since 2001. The new car revives two historic nameplates from the Aston Martin line: The DBS title first appeared in a line of coupes starting in 1967, while Superleggera, which means “super light” in Italian, hasn’t been used since the DB4 Superleggera stopped production in 1961. The DBS Superleggera has a bi-turbo, 5.2-liter V12 engine that will be the basis for all forthcoming V12 models as well, since it is highly modifiable and can allow the integration of improvements for various trim lines and future products. The engine made its debut in this year’s DB11 coupe. It gets 715bhp and 664 pound-feet of torque—an astounding amount, considering that even 10 years ago only the most expensive, crazy-looking hypercars crested the 700hp mark. This one looks as if it could saunter down a high-fashion runway. It will give the 789-horsepower Ferrari 812 Superfast a firm challenge for dominance within the set. (The 812 Superfast, by the way, is the only other front-engine, rear-wheel drive, luxury super GT car on the market today. The British company is targeting Ferrari in other ways too.) Zero to 62 miles per hour in the Superleggera is 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 211mph.
  3. Lamborghini Huracan Taxi In a UK first, Wolverhampton council has granted a private hire car license to a supercar. The Lamborghini Huracan, worth at least £180,000 ($260,000, €230,000), will be the first taxi of its kind in the UK. The green Lambo is more than likely the only taxi you'll ever get with a five-litre engine and a top speeds of over 200mph. Admittedly, the streets of Wolverhampton aren't be the best place to put your foot down. If you think black cabs are expensive, Wolverhampton's Lamborghini might be out of your price range. The minimum charge for a journey is £349 for 90 minutes.
  4. Chevrolet introduced the most track-capable Corvette in the brand's history via the 2015 Corvette Z06. At the heart is an all new 6.2-litre LT4 supercharged V8 engine that will deliver no less than 625bhp and 861Nm of torque. It will be linked to either a seven-speed manual with Active Rev Match or a 8L90 new eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters to enhance both performance and efficiency. Extensive use of aluminium and magnesium allows the 8L90 to be 4kg lighter than the six-speeder in the predecessor. Along with design features that reduce friction, the 8L90 is expected to contribute up to five percent greater efficiency, when compared with a six-speed automatic. The stiffer design of the aluminium frame allows the Corvette Z06 to be offered with a removable carbon fibre roof panel for the first time - and offers 60 percent more structural rigidity than its predecessor. To deliver optimum grip levels, the Z06 is fitted with larger Michelin tyres. The front tyres are 1.5 inches wider while the rear tyres are two inches wider than the Corvette Stingray. Additionally, a track-focused Z07 Performance Package adds unique components for true aerodynamic downforce, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tyres for enhanced grip, and Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking performance. The cabin is distinguished from the Corvette Stingray by unique colour schemes that emphasises the driver-focused cockpit, and a unique flat-bottomed steering wheel. The cabin offers two seating choices, a GT seat, for all-around comfort, or a Competition Sport seat with more aggressive side bolstering, for greater support during track activity. The Z06 also benefits from interior details designed for high-performance driving, including a steel reinforced grab bar and soft touch materials on the edge of the console. The new Corvette Z06 will be available in early 2015 and performance data will be announced closer to the start of production.
  5. Had he been alive, he would have celebrated his 53rd birthday last March. Yet yesterday motorsports enthusiasts and the people of Brazil - or those who remember anyway - rekindled the memories of the best racing driver in the world - Ayrton Senna. 19 years after his death, Ayrton Senna is still remembered for many things including his charity work to his people, but it's his driving attitude and god-like performance on the track that many - including Mika Haikkainen, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, David Coultard place him among the best. Including the most successful driver of all time - Michael Schumacher - who won the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and equaled Senna's 41 victory record in 2000. The three time world championship winner was also responsible in part in the development of the Honda NSX. Ayrton Senna's three championship winning cars were powered by Honda engines and after testing at the Suzuka GP circuit - Senna requested Honda to stiffen the chassis. Senna was given two cars by Honda. The newer one, a black 1993 model, license plate BSS-8888 (the letters meaning Beco - a childhood nickname - Senna Silva and the number 8 is a reference to his first F1 championship in 1988) is still in his family's possession. A team from Hungary's TotalCar Magazine has prepared a special video to honour the late Senna featuring professional touring car driver and WTCC Rookie of the Year 2011, Norbert Michelisz, in a car that the Brazilian helped fine tune - the NSX.
  6. [extract] Many of us would know that the Nissan R35 GT-R is one fast automotive machine and ever since its release a few years ago, many tuning company or individuals have tried making it more powerful and faster. The guys at AMS Performance have refined the Godzilla and it is not for the faint hearted. The car you see here is the AMS Alpha 12 GT-R. It is one of the fastest R35 GTR that AMS Performance has ever built and even though they have the Alpha Omega GT-R which is said to be faster but let
  7. Turn 10 studios the developers of the well received Forza Motorsport series of games have allowed gamers and motor-heads to experience some of the best pieces of metal and cylinders on some of the finest of the race tracks, the latest being Forza 4. Now the Forza franchise is heading in a new direction. Forza Horizon, was officially announced at the E3 convention in Los Angeles. Developed together with Britain's Playground Games, known for producing games like GRID and DiRT, Forza Horizon heads into Need For Speed turf. Turn 10 Studios describes the Horizon as an action racing game. "Action racing is all about pick-up-and-play fun. This game has been designed so that if you love driving cars fast, if you love smashing through stuff, weaving in and out of traffic, you're going to be able to jump right in and have fun straight away,"says the developers. "What Horizon brings to the genre is authenticity, that's what Forza stands for. In the past there's been a problem with open road driving games in that they can feel a little arcadey. The problem with arcadey games is that the cars all start to feel the same. That doesn't work for Forza. In Forza the car is the star." The Horizon Festival The main part of Forza Horizon is the Horizon Festival. Its basically a Sims: Auto Fetstival DLC together with Facebook so to speak - A virtual place for car enthusiasts to gather. A mecca for car lovers. Besides hanging out with your car enthusiast buddies, you can race in festival competitions to further your careers, with events becoming more and more difficult. Just like in Forza Motorsports, any races can be done in individual mode or in online multiplayer mode. From the track to the open road For the most part, Forza Motorsport is on the racetrack. In Forza Horizon, you get to the open road. For inspiration the developers turned to the mountain roads of Colorado where they spent four months taking photos and videos to create the virtual world of Horizon, which has been polished to make sure that it's a fun driving experience wherever you go. Also for the first time players can drive off-road, among 65 other surface types in the game. Getting excited already? What if I mentioned you can also race at night, and AI traffic will be present on the open roadways, with some yet-to be announced special races as well. Looks like Forza is extremely inspired by the NFS Blockbuster, the Hot Pursuit which was developed by Criterion games, the guys who did Burnout. Kinect will also play a part for the voice-activated GPS system. Developers found the game's roads to be so expansive that the GPS system will direct players where to go and guide them to their next race or mission. The cars The full Forza Horizon car list won't be announced until later this summer, but the teaser gives us a bleak idea. The new 2013 SRT Viper will definitely be included, well it is featured on the cover art. So essentially what they are developing is the lovechild of Forza/Grand Turismo and Brunout/Need For Speed. Actually, what Turn 10 is really developing is an alternative to NFS:Shift and NFS: Shift Unleashed. I'm a bit of a gamer, and I've tried all the games mentioned here, and being a motornut, I cannot wait for the Forza Horizon. Forza Horizon will be on sale October 23rd.
  8. In this current so-called economic climate, it would not be a surprise to most people that many are cutting down on their expenses. Especially when buying a car, many would consider what car they could get that is within their budget. Some would look into practicality and some would consider styling or performance. And there are even some who would consider all the three abovementioned factors. Shelby SuperCars has managed to register sales for 10 of their upcoming Tuatara model in a country where buying a US$1.3 million car is considered common or nothing. This is a perfect example to show that it is not difficult for a supercar manufacturer to sell their expensive cars in this current economic situation. US supercar manufacture, Shelby SuperCars made a trip recently to the UAE for the Dubai International Motor Show. The trip was to launch and promote their upcoming Tuatara model and also to find a company to import and distribute the car in that region, where some of the richest people in the world live. During the auto show, the company not only attracted potential distributors but they also attracted a fair amount of potential customers and the company managed to seal 10 orders during the auto show which amounted to US$13 million dollars. And the best part is, Shelby SuperCars has not yet finished the production of their Tuatara model. Shelby SuperCars hopes to reclaim the title of fastest production car from the grip of the Bugatti Veyron. Most of us would know that before the Veyron took that title record, Shelby
  9. Collecting model scale cars can be a quite expensive hobby especially those who are particular with the amount of real-life details copied onto the scale models. Prices can range from a mere $5 up to the hundreds and even thousands, for those limited editions made by high-end scale model car companies. This Lamborghini Aventador scale model is rather unique. The reason why I would say that is because the value is much more expensive (worth around US$4.7 million) than a real life one. This scale model is made by a German scale model builder named Robert Gulpen and he made this item using very expensive materials. The model is roughly 1/8 the size of a real Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. It is built entirely out of precious metals; such as gold and platinum, diamonds and even carbon fibre. This is not the first time he had built something like this. Previously, he had built a solid gold 1/18 Bugatti Veyron scale model. With his previous successful model scale Veyron, Gulpen intends to seek out a new scale build with the Aventador as he feels that he car has an uncompromising design. The result is rather spectacular. The car features solid gold suspension design, platinum cast wheels, gold plated carbon fibre body panels and seats lined with over 700 diamonds. If these luxurious items are not enough, Gulpen will add more exclusive modifications to the scale model. The scale model car will be put on auction and Gulpen hopes to raise more than US$670,000 through the auction. He also hopes to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the world

  11. Every now and then we would hear some news about a rather unknown automotive company introducing their exotic super sports car. Some companies eventually made their prototypes into production models, such as the Pagani Zonda, Bugatti Veyron, etc. and many others did not even go past the planning stage and their ideas and plans just got lost into oblivion. Now, a French design company, Genty, plans to build a car that will beat the Veyron in terms of speed. It is named the Genty Akylone. Around four years ago, the company planned to produce a lightweight supercar. First of all they designed a chassis that was mainly made of carbon fibre and aluminium. As the development goes by, every unnecessary item were omitted out and only the essentials were left in placed. With all these weight saving measures taking place, the car weighs around 1200kg, with a weight distribution of 58% at the rear and the rest at the front. The car will have a mid-mounted twin turbocharged 4.8 litre V8 engine, powering the rear wheels, plus a 7-speed sequential transmission. Genty did not reveal whether they are going to develop an engine for this project or they are going to use one from another manufacturer. Power wise, it is rumoured to be just over 1000bhp and 1198Nm of torque with a top speed of 354km/h. With a lightweight body and a powerful engine, the Akylone is expected to do 0-100km/h in just 2.7 seconds, 0-200km/h in 7.2 seconds and 0-295km/h in 14 seconds. In addition, a 9.8 seconds timing for the quarter mile sprint is also expected. In order to prove these timings, Genty will test the car at Nurburgring once it is ready. Exterior wise, the car will have scissors doors, rear diffusers, LED lights (front and rear) and a sporty, aggressive front snout. While the interior still looks conceptual, it will get sports seats and the latest gadgets a supercar would normally have. Pricing has not been confirmed yet and Genty plans to build 15 units for the Akylone which they will premiere it at next year

  14. Parked along side the St. Regis, or Hilton Hotel, there's always something that catches the eyes. Whether its a Rolls Royce or a Ferrari, pedestrians can't help it but stop and stare. Well those are the authentic cars, but since the rest of the world allows its people to build their own kit cars, I can't see why not here on this island with too many Toyotas, Hondas, Hyundais, Kias and Nissans. The car in the photo above is a Honda Attack, and its a kit car with the chassis from a Civic or an Accord. What kit cars are essentially are just like a sheep in wolves clothing, they look 'fierce', stunning, or even gorgeous like an Aston Martin DB9, but underneath the hood, its just an engine from anywhere else but Aston Martin. And it costs a whole lot cheaper too. Some say that kit cars are for the image obsessed individual who only wish to look good without any form of substance. However, if you really get a good model, and with a decent engine on Singaporean roads, who's really going to care what kind of engine you have under the bonnet? When you see yourself driving along Orchard Road and you see your reflection in one of the glass windows in an Alfa Romeo 8C's shell, you're gonna feel good. I don't understand why its not allowed here in Singapore, maybe some of you readers can enlighten me, but its something to think about. It not only will spark the creativity of most kit car builders, it also changes our motoring landscape here unlike the current situation where the most you can do is add on an immensely ugly bodykit for a Honda Jazz or a Hyundai Getz. You may have read in the news previously about a man building his Lamborghini underground and finally having to dig it up from the ground up just to admire his masterpiece, these are some stories that just leave me in awe at the level of commitment and passion that man must have had. We Singaporeans are passionate about cars too but lack the avenues to express that passion. Just imagine having a whole new landscape of cars on our roads.. Driving may just get a little more interesting.
