  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9vhsFsyGQ0 If you think that forklifting an Audi R8 onto the roof of Fullerton Hotel was impressive, wait till you hear this. Aston Martin, in celebration of its 100th year since inception, dropped in a Vanquish onto the helipad of Dubai's Buri Al Arab hotel before showing if off to a group of dignitaries. At 321m, the Buri Al Arab hotel is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island 280m from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Also as part of the British carmaker's 100th year celebration, the Vanquish, Rapide, V8 Vantage and DB9 will all be offered with a limited production Centenary Edition model with just 100 units. Since the star of this blog post is the Vanquish, its Centenary Edition comes with a special graduated paint finish, which adds 18 hours to the 50-hour paint process. Under the hood is a 6.0-litre V12 which makes 565bhp and 457Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
  2. Several months back, I wrote about supercars left abandoned in two Middle Eastern countries. One of them is a Ferrari Enzo that has been impounded in a Dubai police impound lot. That particular Ferrari is still sitting in the same impound lot and it, together with other luxury cars, might have a better and brighter future. The authorities in Dubai have decided to auction off the Ferrari and 23 other luxury cars. Failed entrepreneurship was the reason why these cars were left behind but the best question to ask right now is; who is the person who did this? Apparently, the owner of the Ferrari Enzo is believed to be a British citizen who bought the car and then fled the country 20 months ago when he/she could not afford to pay the loan and traffic fines. Being in debt in the country is a crime and according to an official in Dubai
  3. If you have enough money to splash, you could pretty much enter any exotic car headquarters and ask for a completely custom car to be built specifically to your liking. Back in 2008, British collector Roland Hall commissioned a custom Rolls Royce, and the company created a one-off Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe dubbed the Hyperion. Rolls Royce got legendary designer Jason Castriota to head the design team and constructed a Rolls Royce solely out of carbon fiber (with the exception of the wooden doors). The car was put up for sale just one year later for roughly $6 million. Since then, the Hyperion disappeared until reappearing for sale at an Abu Dhabi dealership recently. The current asking price is unknown, with an estimated price of at least $7 million. Any takers, for this exclusive piece of beauty?
  4. In this current so-called economic climate, it would not be a surprise to most people that many are cutting down on their expenses. Especially when buying a car, many would consider what car they could get that is within their budget. Some would look into practicality and some would consider styling or performance. And there are even some who would consider all the three abovementioned factors. Shelby SuperCars has managed to register sales for 10 of their upcoming Tuatara model in a country where buying a US$1.3 million car is considered common or nothing. This is a perfect example to show that it is not difficult for a supercar manufacturer to sell their expensive cars in this current economic situation. US supercar manufacture, Shelby SuperCars made a trip recently to the UAE for the Dubai International Motor Show. The trip was to launch and promote their upcoming Tuatara model and also to find a company to import and distribute the car in that region, where some of the richest people in the world live. During the auto show, the company not only attracted potential distributors but they also attracted a fair amount of potential customers and the company managed to seal 10 orders during the auto show which amounted to US$13 million dollars. And the best part is, Shelby SuperCars has not yet finished the production of their Tuatara model. Shelby SuperCars hopes to reclaim the title of fastest production car from the grip of the Bugatti Veyron. Most of us would know that before the Veyron took that title record, Shelby

  6. Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E has just opened its doors to paying customers. For 225 Arab Emirates Dinars or about US$60 per person, you get to enter a theme park filled with Ferrari themed roller coasters, other Ferrari rides and access to lots of Ferrari merchandise of various sorts. All fine and dandy but the press release pictures had some eagle eyed automotive blog readers slightly humored. And would be a slightly embarrassing one for Ferrari. It seems they've wrongly spelled Kimi Raikkonen's name on a wall listing Ferrari Formula 1 Champions. 2007 Formula 1 Champion Raikkonen isn't 'RAIKONNEN' but RAIKKONEN. Note the double 'K' and not a double 'N'. Someone in Ferrari World goofed up and now someone in the management should shoot the contractor who printed that wall covering for them. This is much like the very the time when Ferrari issued a photo of the 599XX's record breaking run at the Nurburgring with a graffiti of a penis in the background. Of course you can expect the spelling mistake to be fixed pretty soon. Much like the removal of the slightly humorous photo showing the 599XX with the nicely drawn phallic symbol from its website. You can read my post on that earlier mistake here. source:autoblog.com
