Honda has high hopes for China, as the automaker plans to increase sales from a projected 630,000 units in 2010 to 830,000 in 2012.However, before it can focus on hitting those targets, Honda has got to deal with a growing labour issue in China.

Honda has to shut down all four of its Chinese factories due to a labor strike. The latest problem arose when 1,850 Honda parts workers walked off their job on May 17. This ultimately forced Honda to temporarily shut down two plants in Guangzhou on May 24. The parts factory started operation in 2007 and makes transmissions for the Accord, City, Odyssey and Fit models. On the 26th, the automaker followed suit with another factory in Guangzhou as well as the production in Wuhan. The Honda parts workers demand a salary rise from CNY 1,500 (SGD 308) per month to somewhere between CNY 2,000 to CNY 2,500 per month, so that they are on par with Honda

For example, a typical Honda worker in Marysville USA is getting about USD 366 (SGD 512) per day.

Then how much will a typical worker in America take home a month?

  • Space: Large and Empty

Over the weekend I fell into a bit of a science-fiction/science rabbithole. You know, one of those when you click on ONE Youtube video and suddenly the whole Sunday afternoon is gone and your algorithm is all messed up.  Anyway, obviously there's tons of fascinating stuff about space and science and all that. Too much, really.  But one fun fact has stuck in my brain: All the other planets in the Solar System could fit between Earth and our Moon.  It seems crazy to think, consideri

    Singapore’s ultimate NDP song?

As my JC classmates suddenly made plans this year to have an NDP watch-party (this is likely our first in the 12 years we’ve known each other), I found myself falling into a state of nostalgia again: This time, thinking about how NDP songs have evolved over the years. It’s not a stretch to say that each NDP song - from the inception of the idea of an NDP song back in 1984 - has woven itself somewhat into the fabric of our collective memories. Whether you were singing along loudly in primary

Manchester United's "promising" transfer window should be taken with a pinch of salt

Having followed this club for more than 20 years, I'm well aware that a promising transfer window does not directly equate to an improved season. Forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, as well as Diego Leon, the young Paraguayan wing-back, have been Manchester United's signings for the 2025 summer transfer window so far. On paper, this team should have no problem challenging for silverware. On the pitch, the current crop of players finished 15th last season. While both Cunha and Mbeumo ha

We are creatures of the air-con

I've often wondered: How much work would get done today if offices were not air-conditioned? What if the only air-con we could enjoy was only in shopping malls and supermarkets? Images of stuffy offices fill my mind. Despite the availability of fans to circulate air, the oppressive heat and humidity will lower our productivity. Many of my colleagues and I experienced this in our previous office, where the ancient air-conditioning system would have a monthly breakdown. For two days, the
