Skoda adds yet more incentive to opt for its excellent Superb with its 1.8 TSI variant, so naturally we take one up North into the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia to test it out.

Despite being a more affordable alternative, the Superb Ambition didn't disappoint at all. From the inside at least, the 8.0-inch infotainment system was still intuitive to use, with two physical knobs to control the volume and scroll through menus, while the car remained very compliant and comfortable on the road throughout the 1,400km drive.

1524_7_l.thumb.jpg.eaa11d09bbbf3ae1778f6636a4563ebe.jpgFor sure, features such as ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a sunroof have been omitted in this variant, but at a good $29,000 discount off the 2.0-litre Laurin & Klement variant (as of 10 September 2019), we think these are features you can live without. 

The 1.8-litre turbocharged lump is good for 177bhp and 250Nm of torque, meaning there is no stark difference in performance against the 2.0-litre powerplant as well. And that, in our eyes, is good enough reason to consider shopping for the more affordable option. Read our full review here!

Correction, basing on the date of introduction in Europe, the F/L Superb should be here only around late Q2 to mid Q3 2020.

As for the spec and feature, it would depend very much on SCS, as well as Skoda HQ, and not forgetting the market situation.

Hmmm ... 1 year later than Europe.  At least the gap would be shorter than the 508 which I was told that it will also be here Q3 2020.  

Specs-wise is more like my wishlist and hoping that my wish comes true.

Want full spec, go for L&K edition, we'll worth the extra $$$. The other trims will have missing features for sure, as every dollar attract another ~1.5x taxes!!

Quite a no brainer to go for the German. 

 

The price you quoted is the RRP, and can be negotiated. I have sat in and driven both Superb & Passat, but can't tell which is made in where. Maybe you can share what are the differences? 

BTW, Passat will be assembled in the same Czech factory soon.

Problem is the current local specced L&K all doesn't have all the goodies I want. Hoping the new one is much better, at least have full LED.

There is a difference in the interior plastics and the cabin noise level.

Just like the japan made G9 Toyota Corolla and the Thai assembled G10 Altis, the interior sound insulation is worlds apart.
