Ever wondered why your car's engine performance seems to decrease over the years? It's not just due to wear and tear.

If you ask any driver if they can feel a difference in their car's performance compared to when they first bought it, chances are they could. Everyone knows that a car will deteriorate over the years, and I'm not only referring to the paintwork, the worn upholstery and interior panels, but its performance as well.

As time goes by and you rack up the mileage on your car, you'll likely also notice how the engine is no longer as responsive and powerful as before. While it could be due to the wear and tear on the engine components, there is another reason for it - your engine internal parts could also be dirty due to deposits and dirt, affecting its performance!

Deposits on the intake valve of an engine will negatively affect its performance - use Caltex fuels with Techron® to keep your engine clean

Deposits affect the flow of air and fuel in your engine

An engine produces power by combusting a mixture of air and fuel. In a normal port fuel-injected engine, fuel and air enters the combustion chamber when the engine's intake valves open. Over time, if poor quality fuel is used and you drive excessively in city driving conditions, deposits will start to form on the intake valves.

You just have to imagine a walkway cluttered with plenty of junk and objects - walking through it will not be easy, and you won't be able to get through as quickly as a clear walkway. The same logic applies to the engine - the deposits will hinder fuel and air from entering the combustion chamber, resulting in poor engine performance.

All Caltex fuels contain Techron®, an innovative formulation that has been scientifically proven to remove dirt and deposits, and them from forming on critical parts of your car's fuel system such as the fuel injectors and the intake valves; allowing your engine to perform at its best.

Caltex with Techron® contains Clean & Glide Technology™, it helps to reduce friction and slow down the process of wear and tear, resulting in improved performance

Reducing wear and tear will go a long way

The components inside an engine, such as the pistons, operate in a high heat and high stress environment, moving thousands of times in a minute. Over time, these components wear out and become detrimental to the engine's performance.

If the engine components are able to operate with less friction and better protection, it will go a long way in prolonging your engine's life, along with improvement in performance and fuel efficiency.

While wear and tear cannot be avoided, opting for a quality fuel such as Caltex with Techron® can help to reduce friction and slow down the process. Caltex with Techron® contains Clean & Glide Technology™, which is designed to coat and protect metal surfaces, helping to reduce friction and wear while keeping the engine clean to deliver optimum performance.

Caltex with Techron® is tested and proven to reduce wear by up to 38% and friction by up to 41% when compared to its previous formulation. By choosing to fuel up with Caltex with Techron®, you will be enjoying these benefits that can help preserve your engine while offering a powerful and enjoyable drive.

Indeed, as the fuel never touches the back of the intake valves on engines that only have direct injection.

That said, the quality fuel with additive can still help to clean the piston tops and the injectors itself, so there could still be benefits in the long run. Furthermore, these days there are many engines that utilise both direct and port injection for this very reason as well.

As someone with a port-injected car, I personally opt for quality fuel, and I've got to say my car's intake valves look squeaky clean each time I have to take the intake manifold off.

  • Why I bought Fanta Orange and hand carried it back from Germany

    - The curious case of the European Fanta - I paid 5 Euros for a small 500ml bottle of Fanta Orange and brought it on my carry-on bag, on a 13+hours flight to bring it back to Singapore. You might be wondering why; after all we can get Fanta Orange in Singapore - it's a Chinese New Year staple! BUT NO! European Fanta is DIFFERENT! From its colour, to its taste, the European Fanta is unique and better, and I would say it tastes closer to Origina (which is like the best fizzy orange drink

Less caffeine leads to more dreams

There's nothing like a double espresso to kickstart your morning, especially if it's extracted from medium- or dark-roasted beans. What a tasty way to begin the day. I enjoy coffee, but I'm not a caffeine addict so it's not a must for me to consume. In fact, lately, I've only been drinking it once or twice a week - doing this ensures that when I do drink it (to power my way through a hectic day), the caffeine kick will be well and truly felt. I did not stop drinking coffee thrice a day

I have a new favourite game - Dave the Diver!

Nowadays I think many people have a Nintendo Switch, considering how it is often given away as a free gift when you sign up for credit cards, etc. Instead of just playing Mario Kart, Overcooked and Pokemon, I have another game to introduce to you all! The game is Dave the Diver. This game has completely captivated me with its delightful blend of adventure and relaxation. From the moment I dove into its vibrant underwater world, I was hooked. The gameplay mechanics strike that perfect b

Are forums outdated? I try to find out by asking AI

Is your boss asking you to explore and learn how to use AI to improve the quality and efficiency of your work? Yup, you aren't the only one in that boat.  Whilst exploring new AI tools, I figured: Why not use it to answer some burning questions that I have? This time, it was about whether forums are outdated. Yes, forums like this one that we are on. I remember how before social media became popular, and before apps like Carousell existed, forums were where I chatted with others t
