I went to test drive the Altis 1.8A just now and am impressed

 

First gear wack till redline and the speedo hit 80km/h - on 1st gear!

 

... Whilst the auto tranny shifted to 2nd, there was a PPSSSSSTT sound from the VVTi engine. The Sales Engineer says this is the characteristics of the VVTi for optimum performance & fuel efficiency.

 

Those driving the Japanese G9 Corolla 1.5 or 1.6 (the model before Altis), do you hear this PPSSSST sound

My mistake on this. Age must be catching up.

 

This test drive was done ages ago. Yes, the Altis auto 1.8 did hit 80km/h on first gear.

 

I was engaged in "Power" mode under the selectable driving mode.

 

Don't believe, you can make a trip to Borneo Motors and experience it for yourself first hand.
