Alpine Neutral Newbie January 11, 2003 Share January 11, 2003 I have installed Apline 4 ch amp, Alpine 5" front speakers, Sony rear speakers, American bass 2 ch amp and American bass 10" subwoofer recently. HU is exisiting Kenwood which I do not know the model no. I would like to upgrade the HU with one that can play MD but leave the CD changer unchanged. Is it alright to change only the HU to other brand? Any recommendation? Any other way to improve the sound? Koolaba 1st Gear January 11, 2003 Share January 11, 2003 I doubt u can change the HU to a non-Kenwood brand. But if u r on good terms w your installer, u can give it a try. Usually, HU n CD changers of the same brand can communicate w each other, not vice versa. The current trend is to get a MP3 HU. I'm not really into MP3 cos I feel that the quality is still not as good as CDs. But u can post ur qn in the following forums. http://forums.delphiforums.com/carssoundsystem http://forums.delphiforums.com/diy4fun I do know of some bros who rip the CD tracks into wavefile & encode it in MP3 format w variable bit/sampling rate. MP3's sampling rate is measured in ?kHz. The higher, the less details u will lose out. But the file will take up more space. What variable smapling rate does is to encode parts of music w lesser transients & dynamics (eg when the sound level is v low) w lower bit rate. As for the parts w more details, higher bit rate is accorded. This helps to achieve the best of both worlds. Frankly speaking, MD HUs are quite hard to come by these days. Alpine Neutral Newbie January 12, 2003 Author Share January 12, 2003 Sorry, I got another problem, the subwoofer which is in the boot makes a lot of noise especially when driving over a hump. I tried many methods even gone back to Autobacs to screwed it on the board but can't solve the problem. It is as if I am getting extra bass. Any suggestion. Koolaba 1st Gear January 12, 2003 Share January 12, 2003 Can u describe your problem in greater detail? If u r using a box, I suppose e box is not fastened well enough to the boot floor. U can try pasting the prickly side of 3M velcro on the base of your sub box n stick it firm to the boot carpet. See if there's any more noise.
