I have the same problem and brought it in for servicing as it was still under warranty. However, no help. And the people there don't seem to know what's wrong, so gave up. But it has improved, rarely goes off. Find that it is easier to turn on before your car starts its journey. Hope this helps. I've owned mine for 2.5 yrs already.

My Fabia is a 2001 8v 50kw model.

Known problems with the car:

- Aircon recycle air button always goes off after restarting car (like yours) [:)]

- Driver's window regulator failed (replaced already)

- Front passenger window regulator about to fail soon too [:(] Has a squeaky crackily sound when winding down...

- Power steering warning comes up randomly after driving anywhere from 15 to 45 mins or if lucky, warning doesn't come up [laugh]

- When starting up the car, will always get a warning to go for servicing to check engine oil. Mechanic told me there the oil was fine so I guess its a sensor problem...

- When starting up from cold, will hear a whirling high-pitched squeak for about 10 to 20 secs.

- Reverse sensor randomly works (mostly never). Mechanic suspects its the contact plate but couldn't fix the problem. Coincidently, after changing gearbox oil during servicing, the reverse sensor worked for a month [laugh]

- Dashoard, head lights, tail lights flickering when car is stationary and mostly during driving times too. Was told it's the alternator about to fail as it can't discharge and charge smoothly, quoted $900 to $1000 to replace if parts can be found. Sometimes turning off the aircon and radio will help stop the flickering for awhile.

- Some squeaky interior parts when driving on bumpy roads or cornering (could be the suspension too...) [laugh]

Suspected problems from previous owner (after reading his posts on this forum):

- Alarm and central locking unit has some issues

But I still like the handling and comfort [laugh]

Cheers!

Power steering warning comes up randomly after driving anywhere from 15 to 45 mins or if lucky, warning doesn't come up > Common problem with Fabia worldwide.....a new Power Steering Sensor should solve it....abt 200+ from CA. That is if they have it in stock !!!

When starting up the car, will always get a warning to go for servicing to check engine oil. Mechanic told me there the oil was fine so I guess its a sensor problem... >

Oil Pressure sensor failure. Check with British Skoda Fabia owners shows that this is another inherent problem. Sensor doesnt cost much....a few dollars if its available from CA [sweatdrop] It retails for something like 4 GB Pounds

> Most definately alternator. Definately no stock available locally...have to source an Octy alternator and modify. Better see to it soon .....symptoms show that its gonna fail very soon. This failing alternator has also some effect on your power steering. Since the power steering on the Fabia is electronic, the failing alternator does cause it to be intermittent in usage.

- When starting up from cold, will hear a whirling high-pitched squeak for about 10 to 20 secs. > Compressor failure imminent. IF dun change, seizure will cause more problems ...like causing belts to snap.

Curious about the steering sensor, please enlighten what is it supposed to tell you.

As for the oil sensor, I believe, I have shared it before, it is a open/closed contact sensor. As for the alternator, assuming it is not spoil, you can have a larger AH battery to elevate the problem or change the pulley into a smaller one for better power generation for the battery/car. OR if it is spoilt, then go down to jalan Basah, near the "banana shade"(the old prostitues) area, to get your alternator wire up for about S$20 to S$30, at a higher power generation, used to do this for my Alfas.
