Soya Supersonic January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 (edited) Thinking of installing a temporary nylon mosquito netting behind the grille to protect my radiator/intercooler from being splattered wif bugs when driving up north. Any bros got advice? Edited January 20, 2003 by Soya ↡ Advertisement
Freemason Neutral Newbie January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 errr.....this is a rather fresh idea to me. have you got those materials already? where did you get them from?
Soya Supersonic January 20, 2003 Author Share January 20, 2003 Haven't bought it but the nylon netting is easily available from hardware shops.
Saaber Neutral Newbie January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 If use for only one trip and then dismantle, it is ok but long term use is not so good as it will cause the cooling efficiency of the radiator, atf cooler, oil cooler, intercooler and condenser to come down..... Martmode8850 Neutral Newbie January 20, 2003 Share January 20, 2003 kind of agree brother eddie... i have another concern though... what if the net becomes loose and gives way... it will get entangled into the air-con fan, belts etc... things would be worse than having mutilated bugs in your engine area... unless of course, these bugs are aliens from the Twilight Zone.... ooohhh... Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 How about using aluminium wire mesh instead?
Saaber Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 He wants to keep insects and small stones out so wire mesh should be out unless he can get very fine one but then air flow will not be so good.......
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 Wire mesh is a compromise lah. Strong enough to keep out pebbles and larger insect. I guess smaller insect like mosquito and flies shouldn't cause any problems.
Saaber Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 IMHO, wire mesh is quite redundant except for cosmetic look......
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 It does help to protect the fog lights from being shattered by pebbles.
Saaber Neutral Newbie January 21, 2003 Share January 21, 2003 But, so far I have not seen anyone covering their fog light with wire Mesh leh.....

Soya Supersonic January 21, 2003 Author Share January 21, 2003 How about using aluminium wire mesh instead? Juz needed something temporary which i can rip out n throw away after the trip. Besides, not sure if wire mesh will go wif the volvo chrome "braces".
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 22, 2003 Share January 22, 2003 In that case, I'm sure you can find fine plastic nettings in any neighbourhood hardware shops. Just make sure you check it's condition whenever you stop, though. Actually there are thicker plastic mesh (black) from DIY shops which you can consider.
