Yep, I know one of the partner for AUTO Praha. They are enjoying good sales now. Since their prices are competiting with Auto Dunia / EUROMOBIL VW & AUDI. SKODA being VAG are using the same platform for OCTAVIA/GOLF and SUPERD/PASSAT.

hi,

Skoda is enjoying good sales? Must be in KL/Klang area... I can't see any of them of the roads in JB where i am from.

Actually i am hoping skoda will do well so that i can consider it in the future. I wouldn't want to get a car that is so rare that parts r ex and hard-to-find. Not to mention the potential huge depreciation. [:)]

That's good news for VAG, I must say - nice to know they're expanding the reach of the less-prestigious makes beyond little S'pore. [thumbsup][thumbsup]

Only one question - wasn't the Superb instead of the Octy that's based on the Passat platform ?

Octavia 1.6 is based on Bora platform with the older version of engine.

1.8T should be Passat.. not sure though.

Fabia is based on Polo platform.

Fabia 1.4M - Skoda own Engine.

Fabia 1.4A - VW Polo Engine.

Octavia 1.6M Classic - VW older version Vento engine.

Octavia 1.6A Ambiente - VW current Bora Engine.

1.6 on the Bora/A3 while the 1.8T on the Passat? That doesn't seem to make much sense, does it ? [dizzy]

I knew VAG was really into platform-sharing but I didn't realise it shared it to this level. Correct me if I got it wrong here but far as I recall, the following is the platform line-up for the VAG family:

Arosa, Lupo - 'sub-polo'

Ibiza, Fabia, Cordoba, Polo, Caddy - Polo

A3, Octy, Toad/Leon, Beetle, TT, Golf/Bora - A3/Golf, transverse engine mount

A4, Cabriolet - longitudinally-mounted engine platform

Passat, Superb - Passat (stretched A4 ?)

A6, Allroad - stretched (?) Passat

A8, Phaeton - A8

It's actually fewer platforms than that. Both the Arosa and Lupo used a chopped Polo platform, while the Passat, A4 and Superb also take an altered A6 platform. Which essentially mean three basic platforms for all those cars... talk about economies of scale!

Ok, time for some clarification after doing proper homework... here is the list of platforms the VAG Group currently uses, and cars spawned from it:

A00 - Seat Arosa, Ibiza, Cordoba; Skoda Fabia; VW Lupo, Polo

A4 - Seat Leon, Toledo; Skoda Octavia; VW Golf, Bora, Beetle; Audi A3, TT

B5 - Skoda Superb; VW Passat; Audi old A4

B6 - Audi new A4

C5 - Audi A6, Allroad

D3 - VW Phaeton, Audi new A8; upcoming Bentleys

The only car in the empire with a unique chassis is Audi's A2, which uses an aluminium spaceframe similar to the much more expensive A8. Looks like it doesn't have a future...

Half cut stuff for Skoda? Hmm... maybe u can try the Kedai potong(half cut shops) in KL.... same 4 the accs shops too coz i still havent seen a single skoda in JB. I guess KL/Klang people r much more 'daring' to try new brands.

WildW,

Just to clarify, Skoda does produce their own engines. Why should they ?? They are a wholly owned subsidiary of the VAG group where their policy is to share platforms, engines & technology. The 1.4m is a POLO 8v block ( 68bhp ), whereas the 16v is from the previous generation POLO ( 75 bhp ).

The Octy 1.6m is the 8v Vento engine rated @ 75bhp whilst the auto is the newer 100bhp engine, same as whats vailable on the stock 1.6m engines on the VAG range, Bora, Golf, Toledo & A4 ( old )
