Silver_z 1st Gear March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 Does a capacitor act as a second battery? Let say my battery died, can I still start my car with the cap? ↡ Advertisement
Africatwin Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 Then your capacitor must be damn big to hold the charge for a long time.
Silver_z 1st Gear March 8, 2006 Author Share March 8, 2006 How big must it be? 5 Farad can?
Wankie Clutched March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 err i don't think those ICE capacitors can act as a backup for your car battery anyway, a 1.5 farad cap costs more than a normal battery
Silver_z 1st Gear March 8, 2006 Author Share March 8, 2006 Yea. Thanks. Anyway I manage to find a website explaining on how the Capacitor works. Coz I was planning to buy a cap, just wanna know the advantages.
Africatwin Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 True a 1.5 farad cost more than a bat. Anyway return my basic to the lecturer arady sorry. But why want to use bat as backup? For ICE,cap is for constant current flow to the amp so that it won't over draw current from the bat. Correct me if i am wrong. If use it as bat lidat u will carry 2 cap in a car and still dunno it works anot. If u are worried that the bat will die suddenly, u can go sim lim tower to get a mini backup bat. selling around 60. It's use to charge ur batt when it's flat for 15mins. It can hold charge for very long, i have not charge mine for 3 months and still it read 13v. Silver_z 1st Gear March 8, 2006 Author Share March 8, 2006 Haha... Me not using to backup the batt. Me thinking of buying Cap for my ICE setup and for the cool look. Just trying to find more info to justify me spending $300+ on it.

Africatwin Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 Shop in sim lim tower. Confirm cheaper than shop and DIY loh. Cheapest way. I was asking around there and it cost around 150+/-
Fff0 Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 300 price is for a good cap.. Norm ones like RODEK cannot charge / discharge fast enough to satisfy.. No need cap la bro, add a 500AH batt next to your amp. CFM
Africatwin Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 So what is good? Brand only and made in taiwan or china. Hyun Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 isn't there a way to place a mini battery in the line, to be able to charge while being used as a secondary battery? so that u dun need to unplug. it's always in the line.
Silver_z 1st Gear March 8, 2006 Author Share March 8, 2006 But I dun need a secondary battery. Just wondering if Caps can work as a secondary battery, so more worthwhile to buy ma.
Hyun Neutral Newbie March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 if, the other way around, secondary batteries can work like caps, even better man. u get spare battery to jumpstart engine, u get cap capability, win liao. but i suppose batteries can't work like caps - they have no "smoothing" feature - they just plain discharge.
