Another Car Problem

 Share

Recommended Posts

My 11 year old Toyota Corolla has a soft propellor like sound. At first I thought air con problem, but no air-con also got sound. My car now sounds like a taxi when stopped, except a bit softer! Also got vibration problem...

If you car sounds like a taxi, except a bit softer...then, it could be the clutch problem.

Try this ---> when idling, step on the clutch. Does the sound go away? Then, release it. Does the sound comes back? If it is 'yes' to both questions, then it is likely to be the clutch problem. However, it may not be necessary to change unless it's really really loud.

Seek the advise of your mechanic. [thumbsup]

cheers.

Tried, clutch no effect.

My mechanic recommend me to do wheel balancing and wheel alignment, and change timing belt.

I rang a lot of people, cheapest I can get over the phone is:

wheel alignment and wheel balancing

timing belt, tensioner, bearings, water pump, fan belt

All up + labour = $450 for a 1.6 Corolla.

Bros can advise reasonable price or not?

Ho Kee Tiong Contractors

Yishun Ind Park A

Look for Ah Chuan. I just called and these are what he quoted me:

The things you should include are:

Timing belt, Tensioner, water pump, bypass hose (behind the water pump), thermostat and seal, oil seal (2 pcs), fan belt, aircon belt power, steering belt, valve cover seal (if spilt)

Based on the model: AE101

Plus Alignment and balancing.

All + Labour = below $450.

However, the best is that you call him personally.

Just got my car back from the workshop, I sent it for wheel balancing and alignment to see if the vibration stopped. Vibration now a lot less! But I very happy because when I was collecting the car. The mechanic said "Wah! your air con compressor very loud, want to change or not!"

smile.gifNow I know the source of the taxi-like sound! Will send to my mechanic soon! thumbsup.gif

Your process of elimination helps you to save un-necessary $$ on the changing of the timing belt. [thumbsup]

But unfortunately, you may have identified the source of the problem, which is equally costly.. [shakehead]

Might I say, if possible, get a 2nd opinion on the changing of the air con compressor. Maybe, a simple air-con servicing may resolve the noise.. [sweatdrop]

Cheers,

agreed.

on top of that, i could also be a gearbox problem too. the hissing should without aircon on should be gearbox or clutch.

if aircon not on and the hissing is there, should not be a compressor problem.

150 - 250 for recon, anything above 350 for original. not sure abt OEM but it all depends on models too.
