Byond 1st Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 I am also considering getting a Mazda2 SP. Been looking at other cars such as Jazz, Colt and Swift. Test drive the Jazz and M2. Jazz - Pros 1)Smooth Drive 2)Nice Exterior 3)Spacious Interior (Removeable seats - Flexible arrangement and good boot space) 4)Good Fuel Economy 5) Cons 1)Steering Light 2)Back seat non-adjustable 3)Outdated interior M2- Pros 1) Heavy Steering - Feel very secured while taking corners 2) Back Seats adjustable 3) Stylish interior 4) Slightly cheaper than Jazz Cons 1) Fuel Economy lose to Jazz 2) Boot Space lose to Jazz Anyone can advise on the OMV / Resale value? Princey_anne 1st Gear July 11, 2006 Share July 11, 2006 Hi I thought Honda steering is heavy mine is but it is not a Jazz
Gnoikj Neutral Newbie July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 Eh? I thought Jazz's back seat is foldable? can make it flat? Anyway..Steering(light/heavy) depends on tyre pressure also...perhaps the jazz model u drove has more "air"..thus making it seem light... Mz2 's interior is chio But then, Mazda cars interior always seems more upmarket...
Zepil99 Neutral Newbie July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 (edited) if u are comparing to Jazz, this is what i have to say. Price Jazz is about 5k more expensive than Mazda 2 SP Power and torque Jazz horse power = 81 bhp @ 5700 rpm Torque = 116 Nm @ 2800 rpm Mazda 2 SP Horse Power = 111 bhp @ 6000 rpm torque = 141 Nm @ 4000 rpm u are paying 5k more for a much lower powered car. the max torque at lower rpm will meant that at high speed where u are at 5700 rpm, the torque will drop to much lower than 116 Nm, the engine will not provide enough force to push the car. This can be tried out at NSH. I believe the car is difficult to push pass 140 km/h without any sweat. for Mz2, we can hit 160 km/h easily (tested during our Penang trip) and very stable. also at 2800 rpm, Mazda 2 SP is about 120 Nm of torque. and its still pushable to 141 Nm till 4k rpm Fuel Consumption Are u a heavy road user? below is my calculation. assumption yearly distance travelled: 20000 km per year (taking singapore average, i travel less than that) assume Petrol price : $1.65/L Jazz FC : 15 km/L (taking average) Mz2 SP FC : 12km/L (taking average, this is lower than average actually most are hitting around 13) for 1 year, Jazz will need 20000/15 = 1333L of petrol for 1 year, Mz2 SP will need 20000/12 = 1666L of petrol Cost of Petrol for Jazz per year = 1333*1.65 = $2200 Cost of Petrol for Mz2 SP per year = 1666*1.65 = $2749 Cost difference is $2749 - $2200 = $549 for $5k difference, it will take 5000/549 = 9.1 year to break even on the $5k difference if u drive 40000 km per year, it will take 4.5 years to break even. are u a heavy traveller? singapore average is only 20000 km per year. Frankly speaking, those FC things are all over-hype. unless u are talking about hybrid that are over 25km/l, and 5k cost difference. if u are doing sales like my friend who clock more than 60,000 km per year, yes go for Jazz or vios, any other car will kill your petrol. if u are a average road user like me, the 5k cost difference does not justified the FC. Ultimately, its really up to you. Both Jazz and Mz2 SP are good and reliable car. take your pick and see what u like. If u travel NSH once a while, Mz2 SP will be more enjoyable with its higher bhp and torque. forget about FC consideration if u are not even travelling more than 40,000 km per year, u cannot cover back the extra 5k cost from petrol saving. Go with your heart and test drive both car Edited July 12, 2006 by Zepil99

Chogokin 1st Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 "try closing the doors and watch the sheet metal shake" Wat important is outside feel solid no use... inside feel solid then got use. A bro from Mazda forum, someone who has crashed his driver's door totallly gone outside, dented till got hole but guess what? interior was PERFECT.......... My friend driving a Korean , body and weight like a arumor tank but when hit a taxis backside jus at around 20km/hr , bumper badly dented. No offence to Korean car owner, sorry. Diesel 1st Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 Jazz is 56k before rebates... less rebates is abt 52+k... dunno how much less the M2 is at 52,588 before discounts/rebates.
Kreasibaru Neutral Newbie July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 i didnt mean the rebates, i meant if when you decide to change your car after a few years of ownership the jazz will definitely fetch a better price than the mazda2. so the price difference could be justified if you take that into account. Diesel 1st Gear July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 i see yr point Was trying to highlight whether the upfront price diff is really 5k that much. Re-sale value wise confirm Honda better.
Kreasibaru Neutral Newbie July 12, 2006 Share July 12, 2006 sad to say that its only toyota and honda that has good resale value - export or otherwise. even the thaiyota and thaionda.
Ivan74 Neutral Newbie July 24, 2006 Share July 24, 2006 I went to test drive it yesterday. Honestly... i feel rather good when i sat in n drove it. H/w.... after testing the mazda, i went to test drive Nissan March. I prefer March more. The interior is amazing n they have so many cute features like intelligent key, electrical folding side mirrors, auto head light n plasma cluster ion air con. best of all.. its $800 cheaper than Mazda 2 SP n inteste rate is 2.78% (Mazda offer 2.88%). Fuel consumption for both car is abt the same 12-13km/L. March has smaller booot space thou. But leg room at the back is decent thou M2 is better. Go try it out..... If not u'll never know.... Jermy Clutched July 24, 2006 Share July 24, 2006 FC only 12-13km/l? Gosh...i thot Mazda 2 or even March should be much better than that. Even my 2.0l car hitting 11.5km/l consistently... ↡ Advertisement
